Perhaps we could take it in turns next season, if none show up, just to add a bit of balance to the forum. Are there actually any Salford fans on this forum.

Nope, sorry. You'll have to live with your eternal shame.Yours truly -

''Hate to say I told you so but Salford bringing in talented chaps on big £££ like Rooney and Gaffney means sweet FA in a physical league like the Connie.''
JJ1532's reply -
'Dude, it really is way too early. Saying I told you so at this stage is a bit daft, could backfire big time come May'.
Any chance of you kindly deleting this whole thread JJ? Please???

Salford and Mansfield basically doing the same thing so unsurprising to see you defending them.I actually enjoyed watching that documentary they did on them like 3 seasons ago, didn’t quite realise it would end up here.
Best get used to them though, they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
That’s football these days, that Notts go down (not that I actually feel sorry for them) and Salford come up.
Is Salford even a city?
Does it have a cathedral?
It’s always been known as a ‘New City’ since the idea of the London overspill came about in the 60’s but as you say has never been granted city status officially. Personally I call it ‘the city’ because it’s bigger than nearby Bedford and it’s just to differentiate, but we must be one of the largest towns with around 270,000 people living in MK. A shame not even 1% of that can bother to attend the football regularly. The one that always annoys me is Milton Keynes - I'm forever seeing it referred to as a city, there even used to be a football team called Milton Keynes City.
There was even this piece of crap in their local paper in Feb 18:

For the record, it has failed on it's last 3 bids to be declared a city in 2000, 2002 and 2012.

Not all cities do now - and haven't for some time. See Wolverhampton and Brighton and Hove as recent new cities.
Salford was granted city status in 1926.
You mean 'new town' the term 'new city' has never been used officially (though it wouldn't surprise me if Milton Keynes council were putting the term about hoping to sneak city status). It’s always been known as a ‘New City’ since the idea of the London overspill came about in the 60’s but as you say has never been granted city status officially. These newfangled cities like Newcastle and Plymouth will always just be towns to me ehimagine not having a cathedral. proper tinpot.

FWIW Milton Keynes is the 10th largest settlement are in the UK that isn't a city. The 4 largest are Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Birkenhead and Reading.
A cathedral hasn't been required since 1884 when Southwell minster was made a cathedral but Southwell was not made a city. Before then Ripon and Manchester had newly designated cathedrals and both just assumed this made them a city, so because Southwell was much smaller it was formalised, that Ripon and Manchester were cities but Southwell was not. Shortly afterwards Nottingham which has never had a cathedral and Birmingham, which didn't have one at the time, were made cities. Salford was made a city in 1926 despite civil servants saying it was just a suburb of Manchester because the Home Secretary was from there.
Since then, population, identity and history have been the key factors. Having a big university, as Preston does, may have been a factor in getting city status (it certainly was for Cambridge which was made a city in 1951 for 'exceptional reasons') but it's not a specific criterion.
Just in case anyone really did have any doubts about how much Sky were going to cream over Salford:
