So much for our 'mini revival' Outplayed, outfought all over the pitch by a really good team. They will be well up there come season end and we could well be down at the other end. It was too easy at times for Wickum as they cut through our measly defense with ease. Positives, well the weather was kind so Highbury was comfortable even though the team weren't

I’m away at the moment and didn’t watch so of course we hand out our first thumping for ages, honestly can’t remember the last time we scored that many. How long is it going to take Cheltenham to score 4 goals, I wonder?

I was saying that we always look worse without Vokes starting up front, and have said that Dale Taylor hasn’t given us much up top so far (which is true, even though he did well on loan for an indifferent Burton side the previous season), but happy for Taylor to ram my words back down my throat with a brace.

I don’t think we’ve had a striker put away 2 in a single game for quite a while either.

We’re blowing hot and cold this season though so I’m not expecting this to be a new dawn or anything. But for now I guess I’ll just shut up and enjoy the win.

Literally every other Pompey fan on here and twitter saw a different game to you then, as did your Manager. Hit the post, had many chances we wasted first half. Unlucky not to be a few goals to the good.

Crosby massively to blame for the starting line up without a recognised striker despite having two fit on the bench.

The penalty was an embarrassing decision from yet another incompetent ref. Blatant foul beforehand and didn't look like a hand involved from.the highlights. After that Pompey controlled the game well.

Epitomises our last few games, play great football up to a point then can't finish moves off with the goals they deserve. Then get punished by ruthless goalscorers against us. Get what you pay for ultimately. Need to turn this shocking run around soon.

On the alternative side Twitter is full of Pompey comments about how decent we looked and that’s with a raft of players missing and playing 8 midfielders.

Talking of that Crosby moaning about us creating loads of chances and not being ruthless enough is a bit frustrating… rather than stick a midfielder up front actually use James Wilson or Josh Thomas?

Really don’t get it, left Clarke out the side because Massey is more of a threat? Clarke is an actual RWB!

Who ended up as the third centre half in the end? Obviously Balmer, Smith and assume Lowe? Despite having Cass who’s a centre half on the bench?

so, you had a very good performance and we were really poor? You had six shots and we had 17, not to mention won out in every other statistical metric.

I’m obviously disappointed with the result, but by no means were we second best at any point in the game.

The game was essentially a repeat of the Cambridge match, lots of attacking situations that we just couldn’t take advantage of and another wasted opportunity. Lack of cutting edge, end product. A lot of vitriol being levelled in the way of the management staff. The positivity from Tuesday already gone after today’s result.

Not unlucky today. We played well first half but were awful second half. Terrible penalty decision but the damage had already been done. You weren't any better than us but had a striker that you paid half a million for...that's the difference.

Delighted with the win today given our issues and that dreadful first half performance. We couldn't have complained if we were behind at the break as Vale were the better side but didn't take their chances.

Second half was a different story. As soon as the first went in, Vale crumbled and even if the penalty decision was dodgy (I didn't think he'd give it) - Vale never really looked liked threatening us and if Raggett could direct his headers more accurately, the scoreline really would have flattered us on balance of the whole 90 minutes.

We haven’t been good this season, truth be told we’ve had one good performance, 2-3 decent ones, the rest have been well below the standard I’d expect. Fans screaming for the manager to hand in his notice is seems like a daily occurrence.

all said and done, I’d put really good money on Derby being a league one side next season under a new manager. I’m fairly sure we’ll make the playoffs but nothing beyond that and it won’t be enough for Warne to keep his job.

Rovers were the best team we’ve played so far at home. Shame their manager is such an idiot. His post match interview reminds of Robinson - deluded!

First half they looked really dangerous, however they only created one chance themselves which they scored - but it was offside. Beadle in goal dropped the ball and had to make a double save, and Long passed the ball directly to them which again Beadle had to save. So they couldn’t punish our mistakes and weren’t clinical enough in the final 3rd to create good chances.
We didn’t play very well, but have all the good habits you want, punished their first mistake and were generally solid. With that said we didn’t attack well at all first half. Second half changed formation and personnel but it was our turn to make the wrong decisions or be wasteful after looking really dangerous, unlike rovers we squandered some really good chances. Then the ref ruined the game.
Said in the other thread how awful the ref was. I hope he never refs an Oxford game again
