Certainly got away with one today, first half Vigs kept us in it - Only gripe from me is I thought Oates was offside for the penalty.

Mansfields midfield bossed it, more direct than us, getting Oates and their wing backs in and causing us issues. Relieved when Boateng went off - sort of player we've needed for years, wouldn't be suprised if Mansfield pipped us to him,

Second half was alot more even, Kellman managed to take one of the few chances in the second half from the game. Mansfield rallied but didn't find any chances. Idris El Mouzoui played well for us and made the goal on the break.

Hot conditions, both sides making errors of judgement which will happen when its this hot. We made more errors up until we scored and Mansfield didn't punish us and were wasteful.

All 3 of our wins we've had to dig deep and show alot of bottle and character so far, if we can get our attacking players up to speed we can have a good season.

I thought we were good today. First half I think we deserved our lead. Possession was even at 50-50, but Newport didn't really test our 'keeper whereas we got ourselves into better positions and should perhaps have gone in two nil up at halftime. I gave Chapman a lot of stick the other week for being lazy, but it was a different story today; He looked much sharper and capped off a good performance with a fine solo effort. Gilliead was, well, he was excellent today. Maybe, just maybe he can actually play that role! Smallwood scored a beauty and looked far too good for this level. Outside of some sloppy passing and messing about, the defense looked really solid. Impressed with young Scott Banks too. Angol had a decent game and Cook did a job for us top, not scoring but still claiming an assist. Young looked bright when coming on - think he's gonna be one of our best signings.

The result could have been different had Newport not had a man sent off in the 45th minute. I thought they looked like a good and tidy side when they had the ball, but once they got into the final third, their execution was a little subpar. I think they'll be disappointed that they really didn't test Harry Lewis. Obviously losing two players to injury in a half of football will disrupt things a fair bit so they're unlucky in that respect.

Overall it was an enjoyable game between what looked like two good footballing sides. Good luck for the rest of the season, Newport fans.

Seems like we were well beaten today. What was our red card for?

I went in to half-time convinced it would be one of those horrible 1-0 like yourself, so just painfully typically Mansfield to throw away all those chances and ultimately concede afterwards.

We have scored once in three league games which came via a defender ...
What's it like when you score a goal?

I think one of your defenders got caught in possession and when our player went passed him he got dragged down. I think that's what happened. Didn't have the best view. Certainly wasn't a bad challenge or anything malicious.

Nice to get another 1-0 under the belt this week but, again, it's just as much down to the poor opposition than us being particularly good. Colchester were dreadful, seemed afraid of the ball and I can't remember them stringing three passes together.

Colchester were worse than anything in the NL in terms of getting on the ball etc.

We weren't great as you say. We should have created more really. Still think we need an injection of pace in our side going forward. Good header from Wootton and I thought we improved when he came on, not the easiest on the eye but was a handful.

What an end to the game, never gave up and got a deserved point in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

We fell behind after about 15 minutes, didn't deal with the throw-in, the ball was flicked on and Johnson was the quickest to react, well he was the only one to react, was almost like the players thought the game had stopped, he swiveled and rifled the ball home inside the 6 yard box. For the rest of the half I felt we were the better side, didn't create a mass of opportunities but went close when Taylor prodded a near post effort towards goal, well saved by their keeper.

Two changes at the break, seemed to have the desired effect, came out of the blocks quickly second half but again was a case of looking like the side in the ascendancy without really creating too much. A lot of threatening situations but little end product, played into Walsall's hands, direct football, into their three centre halves, was bread and butter for them most of the afternoon. Walsall could have sealed the game, there was a 10-15 minute window where they seemed to take control of the game, capitalising on some sloppy football by ourselves. Johnson should have made it 2-0 from a Williams cross but he was stretching and only helped it wide.

Even though we pressed towards the latter stages I felt we were a little too predictable, the guys at the back for Walsall were first to a lot of the balls into the box, and it seemed like they were managing the game well which made it an incredibly frustrating watch. Despite their centre backs dealing with a lot of the balls into the area, our goal came from a deep cross to the back post, their keeper goes walkabout and Danny Rose like a salmon to head home and send us Boro fans home happy!

We were streets ahead of Gillingham today. They had a 10 min spell at the start of the second half but that aside, we were well worthy of the 3-0 win. Need that same quality and energy for Hartlepool on Tuesday now.
Can’t argue with any of that from listening in, sounded like we weren’t getting the basics right and didn’t seem up for the fight. We could have had a pen at 0-1, maybe should have from the clip I’ve seen, but doubt it would have changed the result. We certainly need more players in as we ended the game with a not very good left wing back filling in at centre back (that’s not an excuse btw, game was well lost by then).

I didn’t really know what to expect from you as haven’t seen you at all this season but thought it would be better than that. Neil Harris is a good manager too. Thought the penalty was 50/50 and one of those where if it had been awarded, it would have been soft. Oliver was your bright spark though but there’s a reason he’s in League 2 and not two levels higher and that showed today.

We stuck with our formation but were more direct than what we were against Stevenage and Mansfield with added moments of some great football. Hopefully it’s the start of a good run for us and we can push up the table.

All the best for the season. Will be trying to make the away game at your place later next year for sure.

The encouraging thing is we’ve been a far superior side pretty much from start to finish apart from the one thing which matters.

Actually get forwards who can finish and well

See that lad Johnson has been banging them in down at Walsall. We could do with someone like him.

Well I'm sure Doncaster have enjoyed there last couple of visits to Plough lane. !! Typical of us to throw a lead away. We did it so many times last season I lost count.

Andy Cook through on goal after a mistake by your defender, who then promptly brought him down. As clear cut red card as you will see by the letter of the law, although not a malicious tackle. Don't think your players complained about it really

Some tidy approach by your team at times when they could get the ball off us, zero threat though.

I was impressed with your sub Waite, he was buzzing all over the pitch and a bit of a nuisance to us at times

See! After Chipmunk’s words of encouragement last week about Bradford and Stockport looking not a million miles off being a good team like Barrow, look what happens… wins for both Bradford and Stockport.

I did think at the time that these words could be the confidence boost needed.

I think Stockport took more encouragement by the fast that Colchester appeared to be worse than Carlisle last weekend

Was that match the first time that Identical twins (Elliott and Alex Newby) came on as subs and played against each other in a League game?

very annoying result but us, but that’s nothing against you, we lost because we can’t score.

We should have put the game to bed by half time but if you don’t take chance and concede soft goals.

Probably as it was Elliot Newby's first game in the FL.

I like Elliot, he's a good player. There was talk of him leaving, I wouldn't let him go personally we improved when him and Wootton came on and he's versatile.

Says a lot that our best player on the day is someone who now plays for Bradford

Green even! Haha

Though you’re probably not wrong regardless!
Green has been our standout player so far, amazingly he was playing Sunday league football this time last year.

Outplayed by Rochdale for the first 30 who should have had at least a goal or two. Then we came into it towards the end of the first half. Comfortably the better team in the second half though. A draw was probably a fair a result but Rochdale won't be the last team to drop points thanks to a cross from the rubbish Glennon onto the head of Luke Waterfall. Thought Seriki and Tulloch were great for them in the first half. Took us a while to get a foothold in the middle of the park but once we did we looked solid.

We scored a goal!

Still absolute shocking defending, though. Carlisle missed 2 complete sitters. Lindsey is way out of his depth in charge of this team.

McKirdy and Reed - our best 2 players last season - hardly seem interested which has been the same for all games this season.

Get shot!
Get shot? Ridiculous. It’s been 3 games. Get a grip man

Lindsey can fuck off. Another dreadful performance. Carlisle missed a host of sitters. We’ve got 3 or 4 players from last season who obviously don’t want to be here. Fuck them off. Quickly!

Was there any particular reason why Jabo Ibehre was doing the commentary on your game today?

I guess just because he's London based and known to BBCRC. From time to time they have summarisers on Carlisle games with no prior connection to United but just because Lummy was unavailable and they prefer to bring in someone who has commentary experience and doesn't have to travel far over someone who might have a connection to the club but would be travelling from Cumbria and/or not have summarised before. Andy Legg used to feature on our commentary quite a lot when we were in the South West or Wales, and quite good at it too but (I just checked) he's managing now and presumably no longer available on a Saturday afternoon.
