Possession really isn’t the be all and end all, look at Man City today.

Some coaches get too wrapped up in stats, I remember Dave Hockaday squaring up to our local BBC commentator Bob Hunt in the car park at Welling for daring to suggest in the post match interview that we’d been outplayed/had a bad day at the office, as ProZone showed we’d dominated possession and completed a lot more passes then them. Problem was we lost 5-2.

True, but we drew 0-0. My point was not really that possession is either a good or a bad thing, more that our central midfield was better than Vale's yesterday which is why we controlled the ball.

You won't convince me that Tom Pett is a better midfielder than Jay Spearing.

From the FA.
Just to concur with the above.

Returning to play after a concussion

The graduated return to play (GRTP) protocol should be followed in all cases.

This staged programme starts at midnight on the day of injury and stage 1 (initial rest period) is 14 days in all players – unless they're in an enhanced care setting. In all cases, progression to stage 2 of the GRTP can only occur if the player has no symptoms
yeah - that's exactly where i got the timescale from.

We had about 35% possession against Swindon... not sure how much of that was after we went ultra-defensive as the other stats were well in our favour until around the hour mark, so entirely possible possession was more or less even until we decided to let Swindon have the ball for the rest of the game.

How about entries into the final third and shots on goal? That’s more important then possession. You can have all the nice foreplay you want but if you can’t enter the right areas and penetrate you ain’t scoring. Pass completion and possession only mean something if you create chances off them.

Couldn`t agree more. What the point of having 65% of the ball if it all goes backwards and sideways? It` s what you do with your extra possession that matters and right now we are doing very little with it in terms of creating goal chances.

I beg to differ. It's not that hard to penetrate the right areas and 'score' so to speak. Foreplay's another matter though and you have to work on it to get it right. Don't be afraid to ask your partner for 'directions' is what I say.

Well done on the innuendos there.

Jay Spearing is most likely the highest paid CM in the league so he realistically should be the best.

Don’t get me wrong, foreplay is great providing it leads somewhere. The problem is if it’s so long winded and over complicated that the games over before any proper action can occur. Don’t wanna get to a semi and go out with a whimper. All cream and no scream so to speak.

Being serious though scoring isn’t easy, especially at this level where strikers aren’t clinical, so you need to get the ball in dangerous areas as often as possible to score goals. Stat padding by passing sideways and backwards is fairly easy though, you need to pass with a purpose to win games.

Sal£ord must have some average midfielder on ridiculous wages I would think...
Jay Spearing is on way less than people think. He made enough out of Liverpool, Bolton and Blackburn and used it cleverly.

He owns a lot of property. He bought a house for his parents when he played for Liverpool and has been buying houses for a while. £2,100 a week is what he gets paid by Tranmere Rovers. Liam Ridehalgh was on £2,000 a week and went to Bradford City because they offered him more money than we did.

Obviously getting their figures from this site. I don’t think it’s too far out for a few of our players (from last season), but I’d be amazed if Spearing’s on £2.1k p/w.

Tranmere fans are strangely defensive about their team having one of the largest budgets in the league despite it making complete sense as they are one of the bigger teams.

That also said we were paying Lee O'Connor £6,000 a week. He was on loan and was being paid nowhere near that by us. When somebody asked how Tranmere could pay £6,000 a week to Jay Spearing his wife laughed and said he wasn't even close to that at Blackpool. Nobody on here knows more than his family and relatives but you all seem to be experts.

The loan figures are those taken from the parent club contract, not what the recipient’s contribute.

For what it’s worth, a lot of the figures are questionable. Connor Wood was on £3k+ per week here - pretty much confirmed by our CEO. That site had his weekly wage at £580.

I would take the word of the wife or family of Connor Wood over the CEO of Bradford City if they said a different amount.

Apparently John Rooney is our highest-paid player on £1,100 p/w.

I happen to know his wifes parents and they might know a thing or two more about the situation of their daughters life than you do.
Sorry, why would his mother and father in law know how much he earns? And why would they be sharing this information with their friends?
