Parts of the referee I liked in terms of not being booking crazy like some… I mean how did your lad go through the back of ours and not get a yellow and similarly Walker dumped Spearing on his arse on a break and didn’t get booked! Refreshing in some senses I guess but that break was a mess, I would have been furious at that one although did think it was a foul on Wilson seconds before the foul on your lad.

He was lenient, had a big penalty call in the last minute when Smudge got pulled but to be honest despite the fans protests he didn’t make much of it either.
There was one hard tackle on Dieseruvwe (however you spell it!) that was almost identical to our straight red last week. The ref let it go as a hard but fair tackle, which I totally agreed with, but the inconsistency from week to week is frustrating.

Both sides looked decent at times at vale Park today. I think tranmere looked better in pocession but we missed the better chances. Both sides badly need a goalscoring striker otherwise all the good play will lead to nothing like today did. Well done on bringing a decent following today as it adds to the atmosphere no other side I reckon will bring that many.

It’s just getting that front two working, like they said after the game on the pod, Rodney seemed to stroll against Peter Clarke when he should of been killing him for pace but seemed to play within himself (maybe carrying the knock from last week?) and Wilson is a top quality striker who should be banging for fun at this level, looked great for 20 minutes but seemed to go off the boil. They kind of frustrate as a two when on paper it should be a great pairing with Daves pace and Wilson’s movement.

Proctor might be worth a go until we sign this new striker, maybe even play Rodders wide if we play a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3

Just need a win, poor error from Covolan last week, battered Sunderland for large periods midweek and hit the woodwork twice today. Once that clicks hopefully we will push on but to sum up the changes from those two horror shows against Tranmere last season only Legge, Smith, Worrall, Amoo and Rodney featured at any point today and that includes the full coaching staff. Huge turnover so won’t happen overnight.

I’ve only been able go to the one game so far at Northampton but for me I think you go with Proctor against Carlisle. It needs someone as the focal point and he can make the ball stick up top and then it lets Wilson and/or Rodney do their thing around him.

I’m pleased to see overall the vast majority of Vale fans are showing they are happy to be patient while this team gels. Put it this way would rather start a little slower and grow in to the season than what we usually do and look good for ten games before flaming out miserably.

Please tell me Oldham pitch invaded again... fair play to them for taking two thirds of their home support from midweek away to Bradford, though. Didn't make it to Vale, had an early gig to play. Was a bit gutted not to be going, so a solid nil nil makes missing it a bit easier.

Tranmere have Jay Spearing, no wonder they had more possession. He’s the best midfielder in this division by far. If he was in our team we would have won.

However, they did fuck all with any possession they had and barely looked like scoring.

We won’t concede many goals but we are lacking in the final third. Again, I don’t think our midfield 3 offers enough creativity.

Tranmere will be up there so I will take a point and we move on. We will only get better.

Decent game and atmosphere against two decent, proper clubs. Much prefer that than watching us against some tinpot outfit. I’ll look forward to the away trip.

Judging by hellogregory’s last post I’m guessing Carlisle were comprehensively beaten by Swindon yesterday?

Thought we were poor - key players missing or not. I think the occasion was too big for some of our lot, and it showed. Both sides were nothing to write home about, but we’ll take a shithouse win all day long.

Good to be back!

A unique set of results concerning all the West Country EFL teams [and possibly never to be replicated] puts FGR at top of table with a win while every other club suffers a loss:
Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham, Exeter & Swindon.

But not only did all our West Country neighbours lose but also did our other near neighbour: Newport.

FGR: Kings of the pile until at least Tuesday. :2thumb:

1 fan 'invaded' when Oldham equalised.

A couple seemed to jump into the home fans for a bit of fisticuffs when we scored in the 98th minute

Getting too big for the West Country, you might have to start including the South coast at this rate! :bg:

Eh? From the Carlisle commentators?

How/where would they even get that impression?

The home comms on ifollow didn't work yesterday and some fans decided to plump for the away comms instead of crowd noise. Personally if they were that bad I'd have probably gone for just crowd noise but you know what people are like.

You didn't listen yourself? I don't remember hearing the comment about fake football or Ben Garner not having the respect of the players. But what sounds like a throwaway observation when said about the opposition might not have really been noticed by me as much as by the Swindon fans.

It was odd the Swindon fans were so irritated by them. They are pretty obviously behind Carlisle but that's what you expect from local commentators, if the Swindon ones aren't the same then I feel for the Swindon fans. Though their bias against ball playing defenders that we discussed may have set the tone.

Most of the fans down here who had to listen to them during the travel restrictions thought they were knowledgeable and had researched their team well compared to others they had to listen to. I presume Swindon fans had to listen to opponents commentary a lot last season for the same reason.

Taking the Garner comment aside, I’m always amazed when people get annoyed by opposition commentary.

I remember years ago an opposing fan called in after full time to complain about it. His argument was that ‘you’re still the bbc and you’re supposed to be neutral’..

Some of our lot are terrible for stuff like this, or go on about what an apposition manager has said about how we’ve played like it matters. If we shithouse someone and win I couldn’t give a shit what they say, just like I’m not arsed about them licking our arse when we put play them.

You are right about Spearing, but I would say our midfield is stronger across the board than yours, with Feeney and Foley, plus MacManaman and Watson who were on only on the bench yesterday. It is not just about Spearing.

Genuine question:
What was attendance at Bristol Rovers and Salford?
No attendance figures have yet to be announced.

A few things stood out for Mansfield yesterday, Oli Hawkins is going to be a nightmare for defences this season, probably will be one of the most fouled players in the division if referees do a correct job.

George Maris is running things creatively for us, suits playing the back of that diamond really well. Rhys Oates done well so far, but I think he needs to make way for George Lapslie, who’s just too good to leave on the bench.

Farrend Rawson is a bit of a liability at the minute, and we definitely need that new CB signing ASAP.

3 wins from 3 in league and cup is fantastic, even better considering we have essentially a new squad and our starting line up had 7 new players in it (as most teams do I am sure). Its important to reverse the feeling of relegation ASAP which we seem to have done.

Hung on at the end but also had chances earlier in the game to make it far more comfortable. Surprised by such a low turn out from Colchester, their ticketing system can hardly help either.

Would expect us to improve after 10 games or so when everyone starts to gel. I know Walsall fans were not bothered about Roberts going but he has been a huge upgrade on anything we have had in the last few seasons.

Two clean sheets is huge also, continuing our solidity from the end of last season. With the new management team we have in, club legends returning as coaches etc it feels like the club is the most together its been since Wilder left. Feel like we will be top 7 come the end of the season with the squad we have available, plenty of options.

It would probably completely take the edge off the sport but I think the vast majority of football fans take stupid things like this way too seriously. I myself in my younger years used to let things rile me but life's too short to waste time arguing with strangers on a football forum about whether taking 400 fans to Forest Green on a Tuesday night is a poor following or not, or if the ref was biased towards one team or another.

But that's just me.

How long do you think Barton has by the way? Given statistically he's worse than Garner he must be on borrowed time a bit? Although it must be quite concerning your last 3 managers have all really struggled. I'm sure you'll be good enough to turn things around. I guess the off field stuff with Barton can't be helping?
