Indeed...a few years ago sharing a phone number would have resulted in cards appearing in phone boxes offering a range of services aimed at "gentlemen" seeking female company!

Just been too loyal to players that were successful in national league but didn’t have the profile to succeed higher, hopefully you won’t make the same mistake next season (although giving Grimes a new contract until 2026 suggests otherwise).
Woah can’t be having this Grimes slander. Man’s been an absolute monster this season, and I think if we put a pacey/athletic centre half next to him next year (should we be in this league), then he would be just as dominant in this league. Never loses a header, passing has improved no end under Cook as well, loves a diag.

I absolutely hear what you’re saying though, for example Ash Palmer is his current partner, and doing really well after a very slow start to the season for him. Very dominant in the air as Stockport fans will know all too well, but I would be far more worried going into league 2 with him as a starter, than I would Grimes as he lacks mobility which would be a bigger issue in this division for me. There’s a few others I’d be looking to upgrade on in and around the squad too but the main bulk are more than good enough to step up.

Cooks recruitment is notoriously bang on no matter where he goes though, so I’d be confident in him getting that right. Only have to look at Ipswich side flying at the top of the champ, most of those key players were actually Cook signings! Knows a player does Paul.

Ah ha! I now know what bois means.....

What is a Bois in slang?

Answer: "Bois" is an alternative spelling of "boys". It's commonly used in texting, such as "I'm in bois". Boi (plural: bois) is slang within gay male and butch and femme communities for several sexual or gender identities.

Oh deary me. :fl:

Grimes will be solid enough backup, but if you're only playing two CBs you'd be better off with two mobile ones from the off. We had Waterfall last season alongside Andy Smith and it was fine in the main, but Waterfall did get caught out a fair few times. Grimes is probably on a level with the Waterfall we got promoted with. Is King still your right back? Not sure he's up to it at this level either from what I've seen. Your midfield and attack are probably good to go already with minor tweaks though which will serve you well. Interested to see how Colclough does back in the EFL, always struck me as one that's has the ability all along but just not the right application. Seeing him do well at you lot makes you think he's wasted quite a bit of his career.

King has been nowhere near the XI for the vast majority of the season, sometimes not even making the bench (mainly due to the stupid 5 sub rule in the NL). Mandeville has played there quite a lot and been brilliant in that role (Quite damning that Cook has put more trust in a natural attacking midfielder to do that job than a natural FB like King..), with Sheckleford also featuring at times. I think with the quality Cook has recruited in the forward areas, he’s not seen playing King as being a risk worth taking in terms of what he can offer you in an attacking sense, when considering his frailties defensively. Having said that, King has definitely improved as a defender under Cook, for instance the play off final he was brilliant, but I’ve always felt Cook has never truly trusted him and that’s obviously why he’s barely played this year. I still think he’s a quality player though, especially as a wing back for any team that plays 5 at the back. You don’t have 26 goal involvements like he got last season from right back if you’re average!

On Colclough, ability wise he is a league 1 winger let’s have it right. He’s quick, powerful, direct & two footed. His move to Altrincham & working under a manager like Parkinson did wonders for him in an off field sense because before that move his career was spiralling after such a promising start, but that move really seemed to settle him down and obviously he was great for Alty on the field too before we brought him in. Its an absolute hot bed for attacking midfield talent Altrincham isn’t it, Conn-Clarke being the latest who is some player. I’m hoping Cooks got his eye on him but I can imagine there are plenty of L1 scouts monitoring him

You thought King was brilliant in the playoff final? I thought as the game went on he got rinsed and run ragged by Nemane. Was booked, had cramp and was swapped to the other side to protect him.

Oh and missed a vital spot kick in the shootout. He was brilliant for Notts that day and when he got himself sent off earlier in the season against us.

Grimes on the other hand was your standout player and arguably the best on the field, if not Bostock.

Stockport County.
You just know 3 up 3 downs going to kick in soon and they'll be barely any big clubs down in there. If Sutton and Forest Green go down. There will always be the odd one who's dropped and has to stay there for a bit (Oldham, Southend, Hartlepool etc) but I reckon they'll find their way up soon with the two up scenario.

Chesterfield are strong, but if you take them out i reckon a side down the local rec would have a decent shot at the playoffs this season

Aldershot have beaten League Two's best oh and Swindon this season so can't be too bad.

After last season's wembley heartbreak in almost the worst possible way imaginable I for one am happy Chesterfield will get their day in the sun and return to the EFL

2025, but yea. You'll certainly know better than me, but I just feel Palmer is a much bigger miss than people realise, he controlled games for you from the middle absolute baller, and Rodrigues was at the centre of almost everything good you did going forward. Rodrigues seems to have been replaced by, whilst individually good players, don't quite fit as well into the system Williams has cultivated, and Palmer hasn't been covered at all (Jim O'brien can't be it, limited player who has almost as many appearances already this season as he did the whole last). Or is that what Gosling was brought in for? (what's happening there, is he not fit?). I just don't think this team is as strong as last seasons, personally. It was a clear identity you had everyone bought into it and knew their jobs, and relied on certain key players. I don't think there's anything catastrophic going on, you'll be fine, should be good for a playoff birth which I think would be a fine result, but you just seem to have weakened a bit as a unit.

Palmer is the one - to be fair, he might be underrated outside of Notts, but I think we all knew it. We were doing fine and looked set for a proper top three push until he got injured, and have looked all over the place since. Gosling was just a panic buy of someone available - he's not fit and he doesn't suit our style of play at all. Will be gone when his short term contract is up in January and we can properly sort it out.

I think we've replaced Rodrigues fine as a footballer - Crowley has been superb and probably our player of the season. But he isn't the same character that everyone gravitates towards and can grab games by the scruff of the neck, that's true. I think the team we started the season with was as good as last season's, but it certainly isn't currently with Palmer and Scott out for the season.

Funniest part of Saturday was the wildly over the top stewarding in that away end with making people constantly show their tickets to get to different bits. Caused chaos.

The conference makes me shudder let alone the idea of the conference north - shame as i quite liked scunthorpe for some reason (sorry) but they were doing alright when i last looked at it appears that dodgy owner has gone?

Should ask Stockport what the north was like. They've done well to come back from the brink. We nearly went there ourselves before covid - luckily, and in more than 1 sense, that fucking virus saved us which led to our owners coming on board.

I think a lot of sides struggle compared to those that don’t, we had a few seasons where we were bottom half and beyond hopeless, losing as places you’d barely ever heard of, but that’s the same for everyone.

It’s not until you accept you’re non-league that you actually start to get a real chance of getting out of it - i think that’s what luton struggled with so much.
