What a bizarre team selection that was today.
Fortunatley I didn’t go & the only thing that made me smile while listening to the commentary was him saying Fondlop had a touch like a sledgehammer.
Ogle is decent cover at RB but him playing midfield yesterday was a really strange decision. After we conceded so early it looked like we then had 6 at the back for some reason.

As bad as Fondop was, he still was an ever so slight improvement on Goodwin in the first half who was completely non existent. None of the forwards are good enough, Cullen must be given a chance at least surely? Because he can’t do any worse than what we had yesterday.

Had family round so missed most of the game. Had half an eye on it during the first half and we got absolutely battered Bradford, it was embarrassing how poor we were. Probably the worst I’ve ever seen us.

Came back on the 70th minute with no real idea what happened and we’re 2-1 down but very much on the front foot for the entire 20.

Our fans saying we stole a point there, I can’t argue with the majority who actually saw it - but Bradford got what was coming, we were pushing and looking dangerous and they just sat back inviting us forward - it was only a matter of time, from my eyes anyway. Then we nearly won it in the 93rd minute from a corner, Christ imagine the scenes.

I’ll take the point, and would have before the game. But I’m not sure how to feel about it, in one sense it’s great to play poor and get a point away from home, on the side it’s disappointing that we’re only playing 1 good game and then we’re crap for the other 3.
Can't argue with that. I was surprised how poor you were in the first half and when Pitman came on I thought Nev Southall had come out of retirement. He did what he has done in every single game against us though; got one chance and stuck it away. You also have to say that his technique in the taking of that chance was pure class.

Ogle seemed to have a free role yesterday, I think I even saw him in goal for 2 mins. The whole setup was mad, none of them knew what was going on.

Goodwin's mind is frazzled. I thought he looked useful (ish) at the very start but he's too young and inexperienced. Definitely should go back to Stoke and learn a bit of centre forward play as we can't afford passengers.

More than a few players shot themselves in the foot yesterday.
They are going to have to work extremely hard to win back DCs trust, if ever.

The only option left to try is a front 3 with Molyneux and Fela/Gray cutting in from the flanks and probably Cullen as the striker. There's zero height or strength in that granted but Molyneux is good enough to cause problems and Fela apparently is better out wide. Gray I wouldn't have down the middle either. You could have Fondop as MadJohn says he seems to want to drop deep which can work in that kind of system.

I dunno really, the options we have are embarrassing. We've probably got a forward line that is barely even bottom half NL.

I thought it was another good performance from us today and a fairly comfortable victory in the end.

Carlisle started the game brightly, with the expected post-sacking bounce, and the first twenty minutes were end to end. However, our midfield gradually got control and I thought we were the dominant side from about thirty minutes onwards. I thought the performance merited a victory by a bigger margin, and we were a bit unfortunate not to score more than once, with Foley's disallowed effort and the missed penalty.

All of that said, Ross Doohan produced an outstanding save from close range just after we had scored.

It is an achievement for Mellon to get us into our current position without a recognised striker, but our back four looks very good at the moment, and the midfield is not too shabby either.
totally agree with your points there lets hope we can bring a striker in the next transfer window , if so I can see us winning this league lets be honest we really are too big a club for this division !swa sea

Hartlepool’s wheels seem to have fallen off since Dave Challinor signed a new contract.

The problem is though that because of a lack of any real quality with the other players we have in the squad, that despite them shooting themselves in the foot, we don’t really have any other options. You could’ve hand picked any two fans out the crowd yesterday who would’ve outperformed Goodwin or Fondop.

It was Sunday league really, wasn’t it? I’ve never seen a team struggle to hold onto the ball so unsuccessfully.

What happened at half time, did we improve or you dropped off? Or a bit of both?

Pitman is a weird one, does nothing really - but when he pops up like that with one chance, what can you say apart from, touché?

missed the game but delighted to bounce back from the sutton game with a win, and pleasing that dazzler got his subs spot on again, they do seem to change the game in our favour more often than not

and well done mal benning, great finish albeit a large slice of luck for the ball to come straight back out to him - though what was the defender doing standing there like a statue! criminal

Goodwin did have a good understanding with Burey, but since he’s been missing, has gone rapidly downhill.
Shame really.

Cullen isn’t going to get any fitter, sitting on the bench.
I‘d start him at Bradford & see what happens,as the others have failed miserably.
If we return to five at the back, hopefully he can get on the end of Ferguson & Sterrys balls into the box, even if he just lasts an hour.

2 points dropped, again.

Touching minutes applause for Jack Tordoff - the only positive from yesterday game.

Robbed. A game that should have been over at half time. Piss poor game management from Adams in the last twenty.
No more robbed than we were against Walsall. When you are as dominant as that and don't take any of the many chances you create, where does the blame lie? Unfortunately, a pattern is already forming, the 2 late panic signings late August haven't helped. As far as the last 20 mins is concerned, where was Evans? Is he injured again? I laughed at Pitman as he tried to out muscle Songo throughout the game but which of our players would have scored that header?

We should've been out of sight at HT. Bristol Rovers were easily the worst side we've played this season and should've had a man sent off for a terrible challenge on O'Donnell.

Problem for us is that we tired in the last 20 but our bench is so bad that we couldn't bring anyone half decent on to freshen it up.
Don't get me wrong we are very poor at the moment and possibly that first half yesterday was our worst of the season. But in our defence we really have a large injury problem ( quite a few teams do, I know ) but there was at least 6 players out who would probably have been in the starting line up yesterday. Jaakkola (goalie ) Hughes & Grant ( backs ) Finley ( mid ) Rodman & Leon Clarke ( forwards ) not to mention Thomas, Trev Clarke & Nicholson were on the bench as have only just come back from injuries. We also had out injured Junior Brown & Cain Harries who have been playing regularly over the last 3 weeks as well. Lucky that we have a large squad but the problem of consistency is certainly hampering our approach to games at the moment. Hopefully we get these players back soon and then start to press on. But I do agree with a lot of the comments we are a poor side at present.

Very impressed with Thomas in the second half. Based on that 45 minutes, wish we had him. I presume he started on the bench as he was coming back from injury?

Total contrast from one of your other loanees Central defender Taylor. He was very poor, he looked scared to death of Andy Cook. Looked way out of his depth.

Yeah weird from Taylor, heart gifted you a goal in the final 10 mins. He’s been our best player in the last 2/3 games so really odd

On a side note has anyone heard from the Crewe Alex fan who was a regular on here on a Saturday evening to discuss Vale? He’s been missing for months now!
A bit rich that with all the extra Vale fans who were on here last season when you were flying high who then all fucked off once you started losing.
