We were well out of sorts today and got what we deserved. We couldn't find a way through the low block. Another game where Cambridge won with less possession, we just didnt know what to do with it.
However if Collins scores that 1on1 then it may have changed the outcome.
Fortunately we still have the likes of Friend, Wilson and J.Brown plus hopefully some more signing and outgoings for a few of the deadwood that featured today
I'm surprised at that result. Fair play to Cambridge who I thought would really struggle. Still think Rovers will be up there.

Cambridge had a game plan and it worked. They weren't particularly great but we were just shite. One of those games I guess.
We have had 3 away games out of 4 though, and now 2 homes coming up, so time to make the Mem a fortress which it was far from last season.

However if Collins scores that 1on1 then it may have changed the outcome - he has been awful this season, this calendar year really. I'd cash in if anyone still wants him.

Wasn't Brown rested as a precaution two games ago? Surely he's not the latest to have fallen out with Barton?

Well that's a very good point for us in one of the more bizarre games I've seen, ending with a (qualified) Pompey fan running one of the lines. Defensively we are solid and were rarely troubled, we just have no attacking spark whatsoever. We're supposedly after a CB, MF and ST to finish off the squad, and the latter two will have to be starting calibre.

He stiffened up towards the end of the Ipswich cup game and hasnt been seen in the 3 games since. I guess it could be expected given he hasnt played a lot of football this year.
So far the only falling out that we know of, is with our keeper Belshaw

What an incredibly frustrating afternoon that was. Smash and grab by Lincoln. Thankfully Max Mata will be available next weekend and hopefully we sign another couple in the week as we’re suffering from playing the same team every game so far.
The most telling part of Kennedy's interview was that he effectively said the game plan was to wait until 60/70 minutes and then make subs because he knew you don't have the squad depth yet and would tire as a result.

4 games in, we’re not out of our depth and have competed in all 4…

But if we don’t get a forward in with the required quality, we’ll be relegated, it’s as simple as that. We don’t score which is a problem.

The good thing is it’s not like we need a complete rebuild, we just need to add that one piece to the jigsaw. Defensively we’re ok, not fantastic but average enough. Midfield we’re fine as long as we keep Moxon. We just need that one quality signing for us to be comfortable at this level.

I agree completely with this. Bar the one incident at the start of the second half when they hit the post and it bounced along the line (absolutely 100% not over the line), we really kept Portsmouth at arm's length.

If we can get the right forward and attacking midfielder then we'll be completely fine.

7 from 4 games with those fixtures at the start of the season is unbelievable. 7 from 3 after that result at barnsley is even better.

we are deffo gonna frustrate some teams with how we play and im not totally convinced it is a good idea to have this is plan A all year, but at least it is a plan i suppose.

chizzy rascal is looking like a fantastic signing. sort out whatever is going on with harrison and get another striker in or two and a lwb ideally and we are looking alright

All we can really try to do this season is survive and we desperately need this takeover to happen and before the January window or we'll definitely be back down in L2 as we're not good enough for this level at the moment.

Mellish can not start in midfield, ever.

I'd say we've had the toughest 4 fixtures in the league (possibly Bristol Rovers close) and to only lose one out of that is very good going. I thought we'd be going into Carlisle with 1 point max. With a couple of savvy signings we could really do well.

Port Vale now above Barnsley in the table. How quickly things change!!

Aye, am mindful though that as quick things go in one direction they can quickly go the other so would not put it past us to have a shit the bed performance and lose to Carlisle next week.

I think you've done alright so far. You have at least picked up some points. Interesting to see how we go on against you next week, in the first game this season where we might be classed as favourites.

We have no goal threat so you don't have to worry too much about us scoring.

Nothing spectacular from us today but Bonner’s subs worked a treat. Long way to go but having nine points on the board already is certainly better than having just a couple.

I'm personally fueled by Alan Swann's bitterness, so will be up all week without sleep.

Oh god I’d forgotten that name, a prize c**t of the first order.

His bleating when we got to the playoffs on points per game in the truncated COVID season (ahead of Posh) - a move which the league voted for - was truly tragic.

Brilliant from Cambridge really. I had them down as relegation candidates but so far proving me wrong. Better from Oxford, who I think will be up there this season. As I suspected after our first half against Barnsley, they're not that good and just had a 1 in a million game against us. Good win for Northampton, they'll need to pick up those wins at home. First half decent team that Shrewsbury face and they lose...they've had a really gentle set of opening fixtures. Derby scabbed a win but you'd expect them to win their home games. We weren't all that great today but keeping up the momentum. It's going to be a very open league with some surprises.

We didn’t deserve to lose today. Another day and we’re out of site in the first half.

Are you taking the piss? Your owners stopped putting money in because they had cheated by getting you promoted through money you didn't have. Meanwhile, other clubs worked by fair means and didn't get promoted. You got off lightly.

Biggest team? Ha! You used to get about 3k fans before Dave Whelan. Stop making yourself look like a prick. There's about 15 teams historically bigger than Wigan in this league.
This is an extremely bizarre and totally nonsensical post.

Wigan, along with pretty much every football league club report annual losses. Came nowhere near FFP breaking.

If a club has cheated by reporting annual losses, then you are literally calling all clubs cheats.

Now in 2021/22 Port Vale reported losses of 1.1m when getting promoted, so by your own logic, Port Vale cheated other clubs out of promotion and really deserve a points deduction? You can't really worm your way out of that statement.

16 clubs in League One have won a major trophy? Calling out that as a total lie.

There needs to be a rule change in football, in which the punishment for financial issues is against the owners rather than clubs. Owners shouldn't be allowed to put a penny of debt in a clubs names, therefore if they want to spend big and write off lots of money, that's their prerogative. That will then prevent many owners racking up huge debts at multiple clubs and just walking away. It would also stop HMRC issues in which wealthy businessman such as Morris at Derby could walk away without paying HMRC 20m+ bill, despite having 500m+ in the bank. The fact that British tax payers lost out on millions as Morris didn't have to pay despite his fortune was a disgrace.

Holy shit! Derby & Barnsley away. Two comfortable away wins.

First win at Barnsley since April 1993 when Andy Melville scored the winner (an enjoyable away game) and first time we've scored 3 there.

The major difference being that Vale could still pay their players. They knew what they could realistically do within the parameters of their income. Yes, many football clubs trade at a loss, but they don't sign players that they know they won't be able to pay. You did. Get out of that one Poirot.

In terms of size, don't take the piss. Wigan won one trophy off the back of an extremely wealthy benefactor. Without that, they'd still be getting 3k crowds. Stop kidding yourself.

A comfortable 2-0 win really. Bristol Rovers looked leggy and poor. 70% possession mainly consisted of passes between their back line going no where fast.

We looked the more likely in the final third but had Collins scored it would have been a different story. Jack Stevens the dodgy keeper with an excellent save and a third clean sheet from four. Top of the league :)
