Have you ever looked at a map?

Yes, we’re both in the east midlands, hence an east midlands derby. (i thought humberside or whatever was done away with) There’s always been a rivalry of sorts with grimsby too.

Though traditionally grimsby are bigger and the followings between mansfield and grimsby have always been bigger so i guess more with them than you.

For those of you making the short trip up the M4 don't forget your covid passports or recent lft's. without them you won't get in.

When we announced the tickets on twitter there were a number of people that of course had to have a moan about that and were bumping their gums about what business their health was to a Newport steward etc etc. I'm sure there will be the usual brain dead fan(s) that will kick off. At Crewe a fan took offence at being told he couldn't take his beer to his seat prior to the game even though that rule has been in place for yonks. Tickets seemed to sell out quick enough mind you.

I'm going to Belfast for the weekend, gagging on some decent Guinness!

Yeah, mind you could still get yorkshire Tv in mansfield in the days of analogue and digital - you got the east midlands version in one and look north on the other.

Scunthorpe is not in the East Midlands.

Is Manchester in the West Midlands? It must be considering Scunthorpe is further north than Manchester.

There is zero rivalry between the two clubs as we both have like 4 or 5 teams closer to us than each other.

The top end of Lincs is included in the Yorkshire and Humber region rather than East Mids, though I would imagine Scunny is close to the border between the two.

According to the font of no knowledge Wiki, East Midlands consists of Derbyshire, Rutland Northamptonshire, Notts, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, but importantly here, not North or North East Lincs. Scunthorpe is in North Lincolnshire and the region apparently is Yorkshire and the Humber. It does look marginal.

I read that Cyril Knowles is still legend in Hartlepool.
Just as a matter of interest but do the home crowd sing a variation of "Nice one Cyril, nice one son" whenever a modern hero scores for club?
Would hope so and shame if they don't.

In fairness it’s hardly like the east midlands would want scunthorpe

given you’re in lincolnshire, which is classed as the east midlands and humberside was disbanded in 1996 would you care to state what region you’re in then?

True, but the region of humberside was disbanded in 1996.

Maybe it’s just in a town where no-one wants it, if you’ve ever been you’d understand why!

Scunthorpe is in North Lincolnshire, which is apart of Yorkshire and the Humber.

if that’s the case it’s the case, you live there.

It’s hardly like stating manchester is in the west midlands though, is it

I predict a 4-1 win, and our unbeaten streak continues forever more. UTC

Need to come through the FA Cup game unscathed. I would hope to rest the likes of Jay, Key and Nombe on Tuesday as the league is more important, but we will see.
I can't see Carlisle as the type of side to come to frustrate us, I just hope they are as impotent as Oldham were.
Expect a decent crowd maybe up to 6k.
I think we would manage 6k normally, but can't see Carlisle helping us out at all. So 5,600 is my guess.

I also think we will win this one and continue our fantastic run. I think even the staunchest Carilsle supporter would be hard pressed to disagree as things stand. We've had some tight games with them over the last few years, but not expecting this to be one of them.

I can't remember if we ever sang Nice One Cyril even when Cyril Knowles was still manager!

His popularity is down to the excellence of his spell in charge here, coupled with the sad circumstances of its end. He took over when we were shot to pieces under Bob Moncur's management in 1989. We had nine points after 17 games and a goal difference of -30. We'd been thumped 4-0 by Halifax, 6-0 by Doncaster, 6-0 by Stockport, 6-1 by Aldershot, 7-1 by York. Knowles took over in mid-December 1989 and beat us into shape, keeping us up with ease, and putting together a side that was in with a shout of promotion when he fell ill in March 1991. Alan Murray took over and finished the job, clinching our first promotion in 23 years just 18 months after Moncur left. Cyril died later that year. The East Stand at the Vic is named in his honour.

Oldham away... we will be favourites and have a good away crowd, looks like 1500-2000 Valiants expected and we need to bounce back from a poor performance at the weekend and usually tend too, missing Smith who is suspended which is a blow and have to hope Wilson isn't out as we already have Proctor out and would leave us a bit lightweight up top with both our big strikers out.

Obviously good luck to Oldham with their protests, we've been there and can be light at the end of the tunnel, obviously from a Vale POV the big crowd isn't the worry but if the protests see the game halted at points if they spill into on pitch protests or objects on the pitch then may disrupt us (not sure what the Oldham fans plans are) so we are going to have to be mentally strong in this one.

Toughy but think we will edge it 1-2.

We were beyond awful against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, have a replay in the FA cup tomorrow away at Cambridge which is going to test the squad as we have had a fair few out with injury and illness.

I can close my eyes and still have nightmares about Bradford beating us over the years. The side with Hanson and Wells, Ravenhill etc dominated us, obviously Wembley being the worst of it.

Would take a draw now.

Felt exactly the same 3 seasons back, KTF it can change for the better especially if the fans stick together.

As any other mansfield fan will confirm when sides have records like that and play us we have a funny knack of helping them out.

Think it will be the first time ever that there will be three Rovers teams playing in Bristol at the weekend. Temple Meads will be tasty.

We've also a cup game midweek. Not only is it a long trip, there's a more than evens chance of extra time and penalties.

For me it's simply a case of getting through this next fortnight. We have two away games against good L1 opposition (Wycombe and Sheff Wed) in the cups, and three very tough-looking league games in Forest Green (H), Swindon (A), and Port Vale (A). Even if we manage to beat Wycombe, our reward would be another away game against L1 opposition in the form of Lincoln City. That's about as nasty a run of fixtures as it gets. If we can pick up any win from those three league games then I'll be reasonably happy as it looks like it could be a case of damage limitation.

Once that run is done and dusted we go into a run of fixtures that looks much more inviting, though we all know that can bite you on the arse. Nine games in which we play Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Colchester, Mansfield, Tranmere, Oldham, Carlisle, Bristol Rovers and Stevenage. All of those teams are currently below us in the table, with the highest being Tranmere in 12th. It's important that we don't enter that run with our confidence shot to pieces. It's also important that we make a decision on the next manager asap.

Scunthorpe’s sewerage services are in the Severn-Trent region if that helps with the Midlands tag and the Anglian region for clean water services.
