Don't be shy Adam, who reliably informed you?

I agree with you no way Nigel would leave Mansfield for Notts. His ambition as a football manager ended a while back.

Williams got out at the right time, I reckon these results might still be happening under him, the style isn't working at this level. Man is playing 4D chess down on the Gower as well.

you still reckon you’ll make the playoffs?

Got a proper spot for you boys. hope you do
yes - we're 5 points clear of 8th and have games in hand. 4 points (or more) from the next 2 games and we might even think about threaten the autos - we can already overtake MK Dons and Crewe by winning our games in hand

Underrated win for us that is. Have grown to realise that at this level any 3 points away is a brilliant win.

Great result.

Some brilliantly salty posts on the Morecambe forum (such as it is). Poor team, only won because we paid off the referee.

Thought County's penalty today was stonewall, but later on seeing the camera angle it wasn't a pen at all. Newport fans have every right to be irate over that; but no right to complain about the result. Easily the most negative side to come to EP for a good couple of years, literally no intent to attack and the keeper was timewasting from the third minute. He had a great game mind you, couple of excellent saves (particularly from his own defender) but it was largely antifootball going on. If you want to blame anyone, blame your outfield players before the officials
Or the fact we played what a 541?

Possibly moved at the right time, and the move made total sense, but very much doubt the results would have been the same under him. Very little suggests it.

He might be playing 4D chess in the Championship, which is very very different to this level. As you guys found out at Ewood Park not too long ago.

Games in hand are nice but points are nicer.

That's Crewe done for automatics. They gave it a good go though.

Down to 4 of us now.

Yeah the style was misfiring so much we beat Donny and Morecambe 3-0 and 5-0 in 2 out of Williams last 3 games. Struggling away admittedly but we’d have made the playoffs easily.

I wonder how many points Maynard would have got last season with that team. Not 107 I’m guessing. He’d have played Ruben at fucking right back.

Killed them, too. What a performance.

McClean and Cannon are clicking so well in midfield.

Last couple of results have given me renewed optimism. Still have another six games at home, if we can win the majority of those we'll be there or there abouts.

There's a comparison comparing Williams and Maynards points tallies in the matching fixtures. Of the eight played the results were the same in six, Williams beating Gillingham, Maynard lost to them.
Both have lost against Sutton, Wrexham, Crewe, Stags, Wimbledon, both drew against Barrow. Both beat Newport.
Manager is getting slaughtered but in truth there isn't a huge difference. We need better players for next season.

Lovely goal by Lolas to win it for us at Harrogate.

I was going to go but Mothering Sunday defeated me. It seems my life ain't worth living if I'm not around to help the kids celebrate it....!?

Notts County had also lost seven of Williams' last eleven games in charge, so the results had already been turning.

Yes, we've been going south from the moment Matty Palmer limped off against Wrexham in October. He is the most influential player at the club and we just haven't got over his absence.

Bit early to call that for me, especially when they still play us and yourselves mixed with some relatively favourable games

If you beat then next saturday it’s hard to see how they’d get back into it.

On budgets it should be wrexham stockport and MK to go up automatically, would be a big surprise/failure if one of those sides didn’t get promoted

Have taken a look at the highlights though obviously not seen the whole game. The second yellow for the Morecambe player seemed incredibly harsh, clumsy foul and nothing malicious in a situation where it was actually a Shrimps attack. Free-kick and nothing else should suffice. While I don't agree with the current interpretation of handball rules, the penalty seemed a correct call under those.

Top of the league and you still can't help but talk about the club you don't care about... Must be a nightmare for Chesterfield fans
You would have thought he would have put his jealousy of Notts being the bigger club behind him with stags being top, but no.

All it takes is a run of wins though. I remember in 14/15 we were basically settling for play offs around this time having just lost to second place Preston and losing our last 3 games. We went on a run of 9 wins and 2 draws to finish the season pipping Preston to automatics.

It’s just too early and our game next weekend will be a huge indicator for both Crewe and us.

It didn’t look a yellow in the slightest.

We did have Graham Alexander throwing a spanner in that scenario though.

It’s a pointless comparison for me between Williams and Maynard. Williams was a complete idealist who was more than willing to die on his sword, I think Maynard’s done the right thing in trying to fix the flaws we had defensively - we were in purgatory under Williams, could blow crap teams away and that was it. I don’t think it was ever a sustainable approach.

The problem is, Maynard doesn’t seem to have a particularly clear plan, he’s just relentlessly changing things every 15 minutes hoping he lands on a solution and it’s bizarre. I’m still behind him because I think he’s suffered atrocious luck since taking over - there’s not a defensive player in the squad who hasn’t made a blunder that’s cost us points and I’d argue out of all of our defenders and goalkeepers, Macari is the only one that doesn’t look like a non-league player (arguably Baldwin 90% of the time) - so what he’s meant to do, I have no idea - I don’t think any Notts fan could pick a team at the moment they’d be remotely happy with.

The concerning anti-Maynard argument of course is that we know we’re shit defensively and need an overhaul in the summer, but we’ve also got no fluency in attack which is unacceptable given the players we have but I also think representative of his incessant swapping and changing of formations throughout the games.
