hard to pick a reason to be upset about our squad, the most depth we’ve had in key areas ever I think (goalkeeper is basically the only position where we have nothing behind Bass)

I don’t think we have the array of attacking options the likes of MK and Vale have and we’re very reliant on Jones, Crowley and Jatta staying fit but with those 3 in front of a very competitive looking defence and midfield, we should be relatively optimistic

Thought this was the best place for it. The EFL squad lists have been released. The names are in order based on last season's league positions from what I can tell.

Some big squads out there.
I think it's alphabetical order but based on last season's divisions as opposed to specific league position. Seems a weird way to do it but no surprise given it's the EFL. The person compiling it was probably waiting for someone to email them the new divisions.

So average squad size is 27.

Biggest most expensively bloated squads are MK Dons (31*), Bromley (32), Notts (32), Colchester (34), Fleetwood (37) and Salford (40).

Smallest pluckiest underdogs squads are us (23), Morecambe (22) and Harrogate (20).

*worth noting that 40% of this squad is 15 year old goalkeepers

I think we’ve registered a few 12 year olds there so a bit misleading unless Maynard’s plan is to sellotape 3 of them together and they’d be more useful than Slocombe in goal

Basically a squad of 22, with the inclusion of Tripp into the first team. 10 of those 31 are youth players so not as bad as it first looks.

Including the under 21 ones just makes it ‘who has a development side/functioning youth team’, I’ve never heard of like 10 of ours.

Final squad that we’ll have till January.

Goalkeepers
Gabe Breeze
Harry Lewis
Jude Smith

Defenders
Jack Ellis
Archie Davies
Cameron Harper
Ben Williams
Jack Robinson
Sam Lavelle
Jon Mellish
Terell Thomas
Aaron Hayden
Ben Barclay

Midfielders
Harrison Neal
Josh Vela
Ethan Robson
Dylan McGeouch
Callum Guy
Dominic Sadi
Taylor Charters
Harrison Biggins

Attackers
Luke Armstrong
Charlie Wyke
Georgie Kelly
Anton Dudik
Dan Adu-Adjei
Jordan Jones

We need our injured players back fast. We have some good players but our current midfield is shite.

When all available, for me our best team would be something like this

Lewis
Davies Hayden Thomas Harper
Biggins Guy Robson
Sadi Wyke Jones

Subs: Breeze, Barclay, Williams, Vela, McGeouch, Adu-Adjei, Armstrong

That should comfortably stay up which is why I’m confident we won’t go down.

BUMP -

Thought I’d use this thread again following January transfer window.

Incomings:
George Lapslie - Perm from Gills (undisc)
Tommy Leigh - Perm from MK (undisc)
Romoney Critchlow - Perm from P’Boro
Joe Hilton - Perm from Blackburn (undisc)
Brandon Khela - Loan from Birmingham
Michael Mellon - Loan from Burnley
Tayo Adaramola - Loan from Crystal Palace

Outgoings:
Corry Evans - Oldham Athletic
Harry Ibbitson - Loaned to Guiseley
Tyler Smith - Loaned to Barrow
Vadaine Oliver - Loaned to Shrewsbury
Olly Sanderson - Returned to Fulham
Joe Adams - Returned to Wigan
Cheick Diabate - Returned to Exeter

Very busy window for us, but some utter dross off the wage bill at the same time. Micky Mellon is the only striker to replace the 3 that have left. With Cook injured, we don’t have a target man-like striker to rely on - massive risk, despite us now playing with just the loan striker.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
Sam Walker
Joe Hilton
Zac Hadi
Colin Doyle (player-coach)

Defenders:
Brad Halliday
Lewis Richards
Neill Byrne
Aden Baldwin
Cieřan Kelly
Paul Huntington
Callum Johnson
Jack Shepherd
Jay Benn
Gabe Wadsworth
Tayo Adaramola
Romoney Critchlow

Midfielders:
Ritchie Smallwood (©️)
Jamie Walker
Antoni Sarcevic
Brandon Khela
Clarke Odour
Alex Pattison
Tyreik Wright
Bobby Pointon
George Lapslie
Tommy Leigh

Strikers:
Andy Cook
Calum Kavanagh
Michael Mellon

Happy with ours really. 23 man squad for the run in if we exclude the long-term injuries and Morias. Reasonable depth without players twiddling their thumbs and not doing anything.

Transfer wise we turned quite a decent profit while arguably looking stronger as a whole. Can’t ask for much more from recruitment really.

Squad is looking a bit fat now and I think we'll see some go out. I think the elephant in the room that's been a problem all season is the injuries. However what's hurt even more is losing Grigg, Markanday, Berry all close together. Our top 3 scorers at the time. We've generally struggled to replace those goals elsewhere with only Dobra looking likely really. Defensively we've not got much cohesion, I don't think the same back 4 has played a handful of games straight all season and you can tell. All in all a bit annoying, but I expected a bit of an adjustment season anyway and we might have to be content to go again next year. Although I'm praying we can gel a bit and finish strong, but we need to find a way to get the best out of Paddy Madden for that to happen I feel because I'm not sure where else we get a reliable source of goals from.

Chesterfield really pushing Mansfield close for mentioning injuries every three seconds.

I mean, it's kind of hard to talk in a thread about current squad without talking about the state of the current squad!

Most interesting for me is where Jarvis fits in our system, seems like he's played up front, as one of the 10s and at wing back in his appearances so far. Seeing as most of his career as far as I know has been as an out and out winger, it'll probably take him some time to settle.
