Curzon 3-2 Hednesford

Very entertaining game, but really it should have been so much more comfortable in the end for CA. First half was abit of a non-event, but i was suprised with hednesford, I hoped for a good game as they needed 3 points really so expected both sides on the offensive, but whether it be them frankly just not good enough, or nerves, or lacking confidence they just came and did nothing going forward for large chunks of the first half.

the first 25 minutes was all Curzon and they should have got 1-2 goals from afew glorious chances but flogged them with Hednesford hardly getting out of their half, until the Curzon left side piddled about, lost the ball and it sent Hednesford away giving them a glorious chance which went just wide, this seemed to give them a boost and they were on top most of rest of the first half without really creating anything.

2nd half again started with Curzon on the front foot, but this time scoring very early which just killed Hednesford and soon it was 2-0 and they looked completely b*ggered, seemed to give up and lost any little morale left. Unfortunately I think Curzon just got abit complacent during the half, plus Hednesford FINALLY made a couple of changes to sort've have a go, but either way they clawed a goal back from a long range effort, it could be either classed as a good finish, or poor positioning from the goalie.

This gave them abit of hope and they pressed on from this grabbing a quick equilizer from a corner and suddenly looked like they may push for the win. I was hearing the Lowestoft game at same time and probs some of their fans were also as it meant a draw was pretty worthless for them, game then became quite open and both sides had a go, lucky for Curzon we grabbed the winner about 5 mins from time with an excellent finish, Curzon really exposed Hednesford's full backs on all 3 goals.

And that really was that, Hednesford had little else to offer and for me when you seen their players at the full time whistle they looked like they were gone, head in hands and collapsed on the pitch........me thinks they just realised its too much to ask now for them.

You deserve it, best team by far, hopefully you've already won it by the time you play us! You need one more win don't you?
Five points but we do have a superior goal difference and Fylde and Ferriby still have to play each other. We've been lucky that teams below us keep dropping points as it's going to make these last few games a lot more comftorble than they could have been.

So what do people think, heading into the home straight now, with regards the areas undecided.

Certainly Solihull look champions. Corby and Hednesford are gone. N Ferriby and Flyde are.in play-offs, but what about rest?

Looks like 2 from Harrogate, Boston, Nuneaton and Tamworth for play-offs while games in hand plague the bottom between Lowestoft, brackley, Worcester, stalybride, Telford, Bradford and even Gloucester. Although brackley seem in worst position.

Massive game tonight between Harrogate and lowestoft

Fylde have dropped another 2 points at Stalybridge. Now all it takes is a win for us at Telford on Saturday and North Ferriby not to beat Fylde and the league will be ours. :2thumb:
We've also just won 2-0 at Stratford Town and are through to the Birmingham Senior cup final - the double is on :bdick:

Brackley to go down. Flirted with relegation last season, looked poor when I saw them in January and are in the worst position. As for the play-offs, I think that the positions will remain as they are with Tamworth and Nuneaton missing out. I hope Harrogate win the play offs (assuming we win the league), but I have a horrible feeling it will be £ylde.

is Wilkin at Brackley still? Not been a good couple of seasons for him. Especially if Nuneaton go back up via play offs

So looking at the weekend games

Flyde vs n ferriby
Alfreton vs Harrogate
Boston vs Bradford
Chorley vs Gainsborough
Corby vs fc united
Gloucester vs brackley
Hednesford vs Tamworth
Lowestoft vs Curzon
Stalybridge vs Nuneaton
Telford vs Solihull
Worcester vs Stockport.

Think only 1 thing can be decided on sat. If Solihull win and flyde/ferriby draw then they win promotion and championship.

Saying that if Corby or Hednesford lose they are 7-10 points adrift with only 12 point to play for.

If Boston win you can pretty much end hopes of anyone from Chorley downwards

There's every chance that Ferriby won't beat Fylde. I don't think that we will beat Telford on Saturday and then will do it at home to Hednesford next Saturday.
Bit gutted that Kiddy are going down. No local derby next season :sna:

If Boston go up, the only local team near me in Brum could be Solihull. Next closest game could be somewhere like Macc/Alty

Not that I'm complaining. Prefer the longer trips where you can make a day of it. As good as we've been in league games at Solihull of late, it doesn't quite feel the same when you leave the house at midday and get back by 6!

The only downer would be with 46 games, there'd be more midweek fixtures and with few teams nearby, I'd struggle to get to them. Only the games near London (I can leave Euston at 23:30 and get back to Birmingham) and Macc I could realistically do

Got the chance to film the Telford v Solihull game for BT on the off chance they won the title and as a neutral the first 45 minutes were very good but the second half was awful. But also featured the worst lino decision ever for Solihull's first Asante's shot was not even close to the line let alone over. But overall Solihull were a very good team and I can see why they were top. Good to see ex Harrier's players doing well as well, Byrne ran the show and Asante deserved his hattrick.

Also Telford i'd send your keeper back to Wolves was at fault for the first 2 goals after dropping the ball.

Alfreton 3-2 Harrogate (Jordan 45, Jones 49, Jackson 74) (Thewils 31, Daniels 76)

Superb game at the Impact today. Both sides went for it and it made a entertaining and open game.

Great to see Alfreton legend Paul Clayton on his return to the Impact. He was a really pain in the neck too! Missed him!

We were back to our best today too which was good. Joe Leesley was exceptional with 3 assists too. His best performance in an Alfreton shirt.

Harrogate are an impressive side and to record a league double over them is a real achievement.
Harrogate took the lead on 31 minutes when a poor Duke goal kick was pounced upon as Clayton showed trademark strength to hold off a defender before feeding Thewils who side stepped one and finish past Duke with aplomb.

We deservedly levelled right on HT as Todd Jordan of all people powered a good Leesley free kick past Crook.
We started the second half as we finished the first as it was Leesley once again who beat his man before firing across a quality ball for Sam Jones to steer home for his 18th of the season.

After missed chances and plenty of action it was 3-1 as once again Leesley run the right back ragged before seeing his shot spilled by Crook straight to the waiting Jamie Jackson.

The dangerous Daniels replied just seconds later to ensure a nervy finish.

We were en debited to an World class save from Duke as he superbly tipped Ellis header over the bar for a corner. Stunning save to top off a great performance!

Are those highlights going to be published anywhere?
I was right behind the goal for Asante's 1st goal and it looked clear that it had been cleared off the line; nobody was really claiming for the goal, but I will take it. Telford looked like they had a lot of mistakes in them and that goalkeeper is crap, I can't see how they were unbeaten in seven performing like that. If North Ferriby don't beat Stalybridge on Tuesday we are officially out of here :2thumb:.

BT won't be using them for tomorrow's highlights show but they'd still like them and if they don't I might post the goals at least on YouTube.

We were playing a Bradford side whose keeper got injured before the game, so striker Liam Dickinson ended up going in goal. In fairness, we didn't test him all that much as they defended quite well and put bodies on the line (lost count at the number of blocked shots). They offered little up top, though they missed a good chance at 1-0 just after half time.
First 2 goals were long throw ins headed in by Piergianni. 3rd was another set piece, flicked on and Southwell stuck it in at the back post.
First clean sheet in about 13 games, few more of those will do nicely.
All coming down to our next 2 games v Harrogate (A) and especially Nuneaton (H)

Telford 0-3 Solihull Motors. No complaints, beaten by the Champions who were very good throughout. We never got going with our goalkeeeper having a day to forget.
Highlights are avaliable on the Telford United website.

How many clubs down here have stayed full-time like we will be?

I must admit I don't pay too much attention to this league but I imagine the likes of Stockport are? (running through the league I can imagine they're the only ones who would be?:bl:)

I understand why we are staying full-time, and although that's an attraction with young footballers 'trying to make it', I fear we will miss out on quality, experienced Conference North players - only have to look at Jackman/Hughes at Worcester, got to be plenty of them sticking around part-time.

Nope we went part-time as soon as we were relegated.

Possibly Nuneaton are full-time, I know they have a lot of young players and I think Ilkeston ran full-time when Kevin Wilson was boss there.

In our first season we managed to get Phil Jevons because we were part-time and then last season Danny Hurst for the same reason, both won our player of the season awards.

Third time I have watched Boston this season, and whilst i think they will go up, am not sure if they will get through the play offf's. Hard to judge from Saturday as it was a comparative stroll. But after all they have endured over the years, it would be nice to see them get to and through the play off's as I would get to see a lot more top tier games, but still don't and probably never will warm to Greene, just comes across as an arrogant so and so, doesn't seem to be a crowd favourite either does he?

congrats on your promotion.

was a good result that for Curzon, was looking like Stalybridge could go down, plus it looks like Altrincham will come down......means will be Altrincham, FCUM, Curzon A, Stockport, chorley from the manc area....maybe also Ashton or Salford.....plus maybe halifax which isn't too far away.

lots of good local away games.

This is the shittest league ever.
Got to agree. It has regressed so much since our title win its untrue.

Our team from 2010/11 would have walked this league with ease. On the other hand had this seasons squad played then they would have gone down IMO.
