Did you miss us?

Well I tell you what, whoever doesn't go up from L2 in the current top 4 will be in for a rough season next year with us down here because I think we could be the strongest team ever to play in this league.
It’s a shame that you’re now odds on for a double relegation like hellogregory predicted

If that is indeed the case will you try your very best not to embarrass yourselves when you get back to L1?

The league table says you've hardly taken part this time around.

Oddly enough we've a decent record against the top teams in L1 this season, a far better record than anyone else in the bottom half and certainly plenty of occasions where we gave good teams a real run for their money... however our record against the bottom teams is poor and our record against mid-table teams abysmal, only two points picked up all season long against teams in the middle 8.

It wasn't a surprise to be fair. We were bookie's favourites for relegation from L2 last season, had one of the lowest budgets and signed no established players, but somehow went up instead of down. We didn't strengthen after promotion, if we had one of the lowest budgets in L2 then our budget was the lowest in L1 by some distance, so essentially had a lower-end L2 squad trying to compete in L1.

Next time will be different. Can't promise we'll get promoted from L2 again but we'll at least go into it with a competitive squad, we've been rebuilding since January and have already done a good portion of next season's transfer business.

We more or less have been at best a below average L2 club playing in L1 this season and we've been that poor overall as a club for a long time on and off the pitch. Last seasons promotion was a big fluke.

However now that we have new wealthy American owners we're now building ourselves up with the ultimate aim of eventually becoming a well established L1 club with Championship potential.

Like what Peterborough and Barnsley are etc

Best thing about Carlisle coming down is that we can now continue our intense rivalry with them. :eye:

By the way this came up on my Twitter feed I didn’t search the fucker myself.

These American owners at Carlisle have they just picked a random club with potential or do they have any links to the Carlisle area?
That’s a genuine question btw I have no idea.

Some Twitter virgins on both sides have started a rivalry between us and Carlisle, it’s embarrassing and probably most sane fans on both sides couldn’t give a toss.

No real clue why they bought Carlisle but the potential at Carlisle has always been there if we could get the stadium and facilities improved.

Problem is whether they have the cash for the off field and on field stuff, it is looking like the start of the off field stuff like training facilities, houses for players and ground improvements may be possibly 6-10 million without even looking at the team.

The training pitch proposals so far don’t seem cheap it’s going to have 3 full size pitches and two 3G pitches, one under a dome, dread to think of the costs as they will have to look at flood resistant stuff also for this area.

But if they do start building the facilities improvements and are willing to part with £10 million odd on everything else it would suggest at least a longer term plan than short-term buzz.

They wanted to buy a struggling football league club and build it back up and after identifying two potential clubs, rumour has it, that it literally came down to a coin toss between us and Hartlepool United.

So it could easily have been them with the bright future and not us.

£3 million our training facility cost initially to build and that doesn’t include the cost of the dome. You can offset the cost sometimes via grants if certain aspects are open to the community.

I'd only be jealous of Wrexham if I was a fan of a club with incompetent cash strapped owners who have no ambition and no vision for their club.

How many clubs are like that in L2?

It’s being built in Britain.

That means it will be projected to take a year to build at £3 million but will still be getting built in 2034 and costs will have risen to £10 million.

It will probably cost more than your £3 million because of inflation, the dome and other additions plus chances are we will have to build a lot to make it flood proof because likely areas it will go are more prone to flooding.

It’s why I do not expect Carlisle to bounce right back we have too much going on off the pitch to fully focus on it, but I believe their issue currently is they struggle attracting players when they show them around a crumbling ground and crap training facilities so they hope improving both will make club more attractive.

I always felt if you just waved enough money players go anywhere…..even ‘ahem’ Saudi

Absolutely nothing against Bradford City. A genuinely decent club with a big fanbase, stuck in a cycle of perennial underachievement.

The twitter stuff does give me a few cheap laughs here and there though, until it takes the occasional unnecessary turn...

We've always been a sleeping giant and as the list shows, we should be up there in the Premier league competing with the so called big six.

So basically when England do shite again and probably lose on pens in the Quarters we’ve got Carlisle to blame.

Awful day. So depressing that we’ve had a year of this shit and nothing seems to have changed.

But as crazy as I may sound I still think we’ll stay up. I stand by my preseason prediction of 16th after a slow start and hangover (like today).

I do however think Simpson will be gone by September. The owners won’t accept results like today for too long after the money they’ve put in. Lose at home next week and he could even be gone that soon.

Listening to the fame it wasn’t like last season altogether HG, but aspects still there.

We controlled large spells of the game and created chances neither of them happened in nearly any match last season even ones won usually had other side dominating play, possession and chances…..that at least is something to build on.

But the defensive lapses, basic errors and mistakes is a worry because it’s a new defence and should not be carrying that on from last season.

What heading for the championship lark?

The last time we even considered championship was the 2008 League 1 playoffs.

It’s the capitulation that reeked of last season. The way we just went under in the second half. Yes we were on top for a lot of the first half, but the traditional conceding of an early second half goal set the tone for a diabolical 45.

For me there’s nothing to build on from that today. The fragile losing mentality is still ingrained in this team and unfortunately a change of manager is the only way I see that changing.
