It says everything about the state of this club that we have brought in more players than probably any other club in England this season, may have had 40 plus players and yet here we are in February and have only 4 actual players in the entire club who can play in defence, all of them as centre backs.

I'm sure it's not true, but Mark Kennedy appears to be getting linked to the Carlisle job. Wouldn't recommend it.

We are the worst team in the football league heading for back to back relegations.

Good managers won’t be queuing up for it.

If we can’t get someone who is 100% the right man, I hope we’re not going to “make do” with someone. I’d rather we just let a caretaker see us through the season, as I think we’re 100% going down anyway. Might as well get it right now or get it right in the summer. Don’t make do with the least shit of a bad bunch.

If they were planning on sacking Williamson then you'd have thought they'd have someone lined up? There's no real time to go through an extensive recruitment process at this stage of the season.

Think they were throwing all their eggs in the Ian Evatt basket. I’ve heard he had talks yesterday but couldn’t come to an agreement and he has now walked away.

It won’t be an extensive process. We’ll have someone by the weekend I’m sure. Whether it will be anyone decent is a different matter.

I don’t think our owners prepared for this, had they acted on Boxing Day we’d had a lot of options as you could promise an entire new set of players……..whatever they wanted.

What can you offer now apart from a summer re build.

I wanted Adam’s as a next season option but if they have to just do a short term offer for now I’d just plump on Peter Murphy, he’s not done great as QOS but he would inspire the fanbase being our longest serving player

It is Kennedy. I’ve heard it from someone this evening he’s well in the frame.

What the actual fuck are we doing?

To be fair Hughes’s as a long term manager…..no, he’s no chance of progressing club.

Hughes maybe as an experienced manager to settle the ship……..possibly

So look, there's a coach called Mark Hughes, who's sometimes been spoken of as a potential EFL manager. It's unlikely to be him because he's only just gone to Bolton Wanderers as part of Steven Schumacher's team as Assistant Coach, (he's been one of Schumacher's main right hand men at a few clubs), but normally I'd say there's more chance of him being given an EFL job than THE Mark Hughes.
And he'd be an infinitely better choice. not that i know much about him, and I'm not sure he's even ever been an interim manager, but honestly, most of us on this forum would be a better appointment for you in these circumstances than Sparky. He may have a situation that suits him. I just really don't think it's this.

Begging suspended with Hughes clear favourite.

I mean if it’s between Hughes and Kennedy… probably Hughes, just. But we might as well have kept Williamson.

We’re down anyway regardless.

He's been a drag anchor everywhere he's been.
Dean Brennan at Barnet would be a good shout I think. He took over a mess at Barnet and held them together and has moved them forwards.
He might keep you up but he has the know how to stabilise you if you go down.

But hughes has been on sky tv before so our owners will recognise him and that maybe the most important thing.

I think hg and me are of same opinion at present it isn’t on survival or not, more starting to slow the sinking ship and plan for next.

From comments neither hughes or Kennedy is filling that role

Another off putting thing with Hughes (if you needed another), is how not arsed it often felt -
Like you lose on a Saturday and it spoils your weekend a bit, I always had the feeling Hughes would be out on the golf course Sunday morning unable to remember (or just not care) the name of the team who’d beaten us the day before. “Barrow? Didn’t even know they had a team”.

Yeah that would fuck me off.

Carlisle United ruins my life. I’m not wanting a manager who couldn’t give a fuck if we lose or get relegated. We have enough players like that as it is.

A fair few sources saying we’ve appointed Hughes.

I can only assume our American owners have been wooed by the fact he’s ex Barcelona and used to manage Man City and think he’ll have us playing like them.

Fuck me, this club…

Shocked he even wants another job, he’s a multimillionaire and it’ll be a trek for him from Cheshire. No need for him to bother anymore and as others have said it always seemed like he wasn’t arsed what happened. In fact when he took the job I think he more or less said he did it for something to do.

Evatt allegedly wanted the same wage he was on at Bolton.

Hughes sounds nailed on from what I've just heard, though I'm at a couple of removals from the supposed source so it's probably bollocks.

All that remains is for us to march like lemmings towards the cliff edge.

Exactly. This team isn’t good enough to stay up regardless.

It isn’t an ideal appointment by any means. But I’m not as hung up on it as some as I have no belief that this team can stay up. If he can come in and at least do something then it’s a bonus. I doubt he’ll want anything to do with the national league so we’ll be recruiting again in the summer.

I’m looking at it like a caretaker manager appointment.

We're in an awful mess and no decent manager is going to want to manage us, so just like under the old regime we're ending up with ones off the scrapheap.

Who'd have thought back in November 2023 that things would get this bad after we were taken over.
