This is just a Ricky Holmes appreciation post.

123471398.jpg

Just thinking about the goals he's scored, he's not scored a bad goal all year.

Luton - Runs 15 yards and slams one in the top corner from 20 yards to seal a 4-3 win
Barnet - Lovely 1 on 1 finish into the corner
MK Dons - Curls one into the top bin from the edge of the box and fires one across the box into the bottom corner
Dagenham - Volley into the top bin from 25 yards
Leyton Orient - Another volley, best goal I've seen live
Stevenage - Curls one in off the post from 18 yards in the 95th minute.

If he'd have been playing all season we'd have been promoted by now, one of the best attacking midfielders in the league, if not the best.

Thanks for your support.

Charlton and MK going down would help too.
Fed up of seeing 100 away fans at The County Ground this season. I've accepted you lot are going up so might as well embrace having the derby back!

The Wycombe stand is OK, it's the hour you spend attempting to get out of the place afterwards...
It's actually a decent little stadium, just nothing around it.

Ex was from Northampton so spent a couple of years getting to know the place quite well. NB's was always an experience.

Bloody hell, you've been in NBs and survived to tell the tale.

Several times! Something else in there, never been anywhere with so many vile acts taking place simultaneously.

Don't mind a little bit of NB's action. Prefer to go to Revs or Balloon though. Anyway, back to the thread, Rovers winning yesterday makes it harder for us to be promoted on Easter Monday.

Turning into a tasty scrap for that third auto spot with same games played and only a point and three goals diff spread separating the three contenders.

We scrape back into the final playoff spot, although given the woeful inconsistency of the 7th spot contenders (us included) I'm sure there's plenty of twists and turns left in this one.

Just seen Bristol Rovers' form, impressive.

Then had a look at their remaining fixtures, other than a trip to Northampton it couldn't be any nicer. Have to really fancy them to finish second.

Agreed. Wonder who may drop out of Oxford and Plymouth, all got very interesting.

Glad we are still cantering ahead.

Think it'll be Plymouth that miss out personally, they seem to have hit some patchy form at the wrong time and having just compared the two fixture lists, you would want Oxford's.

We (argyle) have 4 very winnable home fixtures and 4 very tough away fixtures.looking at Oxford they have a couple of hard games but no one challenging for promotion except Wycombe same with Bristol except there is northampton.

This turning into a Northampton orgy thread now?

Wow you're top of L2!!

Big fucking deal.

If we'd of been top we'd be all like yeah job done and now we can get out of this hell hole and back to where we should be and not have to play football on things like whatever the fuck Newport County's pitch is and not be refereed by the most useless idiotic refs in the country.

But your not top. So try and enjoy league 2 a little longer. This is a record breaking season for us with 1 defeat in 25. Think that's reason to celebrate.

Yes but it's not as if you had any good teams to compete against. No disrespect but when a club like Northampton do extremely well thanks to having Pompey rejects who turn out good and a loaned player from Shresbury who chucks a cup of urine off a balcony. It does make this league look poorer than ever before.

This league is a joke and always will be, but I do understand your fans enjoying it with it being your suited level.

Strawberry Jam who is a Plymouth fan liked my comment, so I'm not the only one who thinks that of Northampton.

If we win our game in hand then we'll be just 3 points outside the playoffs :woo:
Realistically though, there's no chance of us getting that final spot considering our form in 2016. It's disappointing knowing that if we'd converted some of our recent draws into 3 points, we'd be in a great position. Maybe next season.

Classic.

I find every year League Two is the worst standard it's ever been at... Northampton are having an exceptional season, they deserve the plaudits coming their way.

One thing for sure is they're the luckiest team to ever win L2. Their fans should be apologetic to the rest of the division especially the bigger clubs for punching way way above their weight.

I apologise for supporting a team that is romping away with the championship and for winning against teams like Oxford, Luton, Leyton Orient and Plymouth. Not for thrashing a smaller team like Carlisle 4-1 away from home though. I mean you've been non league before, we haven't yet (thanks Kidderminster's ground)

(P.S nothing against Carlisle, lived there for 4 years)

Northampton deserve tremendous credit, especially Chris Wilder. He came in with a team in the relegation zone saved them, made them a mid table side last season while in financial trouble, he stayed when he could have gone. They were still in trouble almost going busto this season facing Winding Up Order and he managed to amazingly turn it around and instantly to romp the League with the help of new ownership. You can only beat whats put in front of you. Not their fault the bigger boys in Plymouth, Oxford, Pompey, Orient, Luton, Notts County etc have not challenged and in most of the latters cases prob after Oxford have been piss poor overall.

Rather than it being winning a mediocre League I think it's a superb achievement considering the back story and it's richly deserved considering the alternative was liquidation and gone. Most would have been expected midtable at best. Well done. Fans have been pretty low key and down to earth about it too, rather than rubbing peoples noses in it, like lots would have.

Hope you can keep the momentum next season and not go flat which could be the biggest challenge.

Worried about Monday's game at Carlisle, never an easy place to go. Great result yesterday though, Oxford dropping points brings them back into it too.

Plymouth and Ox have the squad depth we lack, so I still think they're favourites. We've done remarkably well to get into a top 7 spot (probably).

Most of us learn, eventually, that "Likes" can have multiple meanings, in life and on this board......although........
