Wouldn't work in this country because our fan culture is shocking.

Too many clubs in this country have fans that demand 15-20 signings a season, whinge if not enough signings have been made then want the manager sacked if they start the season like shit. It'd be far too chaotic to implement across the board in this country, but the model would work at a select few clubs with a bit more realism about them.

It's getting really late now, four and a bit hours on a Friday night seems borderline impossible.
Really hope there's a happy ending to this, so many lower league and non league clubs have come close or gone through similar and in the end they seem to come out the other end , just about, although not always in the division or even league they started.

I saw a report online stating that there's a covenant on the land Gigg lane stands on saying it has to be used for recreation. If he's after the land, surely that would stop him building on it? Then again, it didn't stop the rovers from trying to build a supermarket on their ground.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems convenants can be quite vague and varied. Don't know the details about your example, but for instance, with an educational covenant that could likely be covered by having a nursery/pre-school on a small part of the site and houses on the rest. Imagine it's similar for any sporting/recreation covenants.
