Isn't chucking away a chance of promotion Keith's speciality?

Maybe on previous occasions, but this isn't his fault.

He worked miracles with a poor squad in the first half of the season. Now we are seeing the shower of shite performing at their natural level, especially having lost our only goal scorer.

To even be in with a shout of top 7 with this group is an amazing achievement. It's frustrating because we'll probably miss out, but overall a top 10 finish would still be an overachievement for a squad that really are bottom 7 standard.

Can you explain this monumental flip flop please?

After getting beat off Cambridge 3-0 at home and now having an injury crisis along with awful form, there's no going up for us I'm afraid.

That's the reality of it. At least I tried to be positive unlike HG who threw the towel in even when we were still 3rd with no injury crisis. I thought at one point we could win the league! However making the play offs is still possible whilst we're still in them.

Not a case of throwing in the towel. I simply chose not to ignore all the signs which started over 2 months ago.

Admittedly I got a bit carried away after the Doncaster game where I thought we would make top 7.

Sadly now we're getting worse by the game so the chances of accumulating enough points for top 7 are just about 0.

So what do we do now? Do we try to enjoy losing games and playing shit? See how low we can go!

It's weird seeing a green arrow pointing up next to our name in the league table.

It's the narrowing gap between us and 8th place that we need to worry about. It's down to 5 points now.

Luton looked almost as inept as us tonight.

The top 3 will stay as it is. Luton will probably finish top 7 but they may struggle to go up.

It might have been a little fortunate to begin with but that was our second 4-0 win on the trot and it feels like things are beginning to click when it matters.

The gap to Carlisle is 6 points now but our vastly superior goal difference is worth an extra point. We'll have one eye on catching Plymouth now, too.

The Stevenage match on Saturday is massive for us.

Kick us out of this thread, Once again our finishing costs us. Can't even be arsed to talk myself into the possibility of it maybe improving and us having ago. Evans passed all the blame onto Murray at the weekend which I think is wrong. Fact is if we had scored in the last 4 games we'd probably have taken 7-9 points at least from the 4 games.

It's been a boring L2 season.

No one seems that chuffed.

Actually I think it has been more exciting than last year. We have had a number of teams go on excellent winning runs, like Colchester, Barnet Mansfield, Exeter, Stevenage, and then falter just as they got close to the promised ground. We have had bottom of the table sides beating top of the table. We have had two sides, Carlisle and Plymouth, play so well for so long and then stutter. We have a side close to going bust which is sad, deplorable and unwelcome, but it is not boring. We have had a couple of sides do well in Cup competitions. Personally I wish it had been boring, by which I mean we had not lost to sides few expected us to lose to. Then I would be sitting here knowing we were definitely, and finally, getting out of this league! For me at present it is too exciting, roll on boring.

I do agree with you that no one is chuffed, with the exception of definitely Donnie at the top end and possibly Crewe, Yeovil and Accrington at the lower. However, my conclusion about being boring or not from a personal perspective is different to yours. When I am bored, i.e. we are winning handsomely every game, I'll be chuffed.

There has been a drop in quality compared to the top 7 last season that is one thing for sure. There just does not seem to be any real fight going on for promotion this time round.

Just look at us and Luton in 4th and 5th and both sets of fans groaning about how shit their team is now.

I certainly agree with you that the quality does not have the feel of last year, or that there are more meh teams. I do wonder if the changes in the loan system are having an affect? But for me, this is making it more, not less exciting. This has always been a league where any team can beat another, this seems especially so this year.

It's all a case of perspective, those that feel like they're dropping out of the frame (yourselves and Luton for example) are going to feel disillusioned and 'meh, let's get this season over with', whereas those that appear to be really going for it towards the end and are coming into the frame and on form recently are going to feel the opposite (eg. Portsmouth, Stevenage, Exeter and Blackpool).

I don't remember the top 7 being that strong last year either apart from 2/3 sides, Oxford had a very decent squad and Northampton at the time had a spark that everything seemed to go right, but it also had AFC Wimbledon, ourselves (In disarray at the time), and Accrington Stanley, are they that much stronger than this years playoff contenders?? I wouldn't say so at all.

I don't feel like the league is that much weaker this year - I think it's just more compressed and has been more competitive as a result. Bar Doncaster there are no teams that have gotten anywhere near close to the quality of Oxford and Northampton showed last year, so in that sense you could say it's weaker, but I also agree with Rob about the playoff sides - I think this year's Luton/Stevenage/Exeter are about the same level in quality, if not better, than last year's playoff teams.

Biggest difference just seems to be the attitude of the fans at the top end of the table. The teams themselves are still of a similar level I think.

But I would say that being a fan of a team that's suddenly hit form..

Yes but it's hard to find it exciting if your team gets beat off

I don't think that most Luton fans think we are shit, at least not in the manner you are describing and certainly not in the manner your fellow Carlisle fans view yourselves, we're more frustrated I think.

There is a lot of frustration that we aren't consistent in results or performance. We have shown at various stages and in various games this season that we are more than capable of being a really very good side but we don't produce that often enough and never when it actually counts in big games. We have seen we can be good enough but we have only teased it all year.

So its not the fact we think we are shit, its really that we know we aren't shit but are letting ourselves down thats the problem!

The ones saying how poor the quality is this season. This Doncaster Rovers team, where would it be in last seasons table?
Remember we're 6 points above 2nd. 10 points above 3rd and 16 points above 4th!!!

I reckon second or third. The Northampton team last season was excellent and would be above you. There probably isn't much between you and Oxford but maybe they'd have the edge because of Kemar Roofe.

To highlight how poor we've been on Tuesday night games our local rag have demonstrated that based on Saturday 3pm games this season we would be comfortably top of the table (6pts clear with a game in hand!), and 22nd in the table based on midweek games.

We really have to look into it there's got to be something in the way we prep or train in our regime for it to be that different, luckily there's no more this season to endure

I think the league has got more competitive this season, but the sides at the bottom really are shite. Any of the 3/4 above the bottom 2 could easily of gone down last season.
