I think he’s got in this time on the basis his record in England has previously been good. Problem is he’s a walking wicket with the bat right now also so can’t even fall back on that. Personally I’d go Archer in for Jimmy and Leach for Moeen at Lords. Frankly Leach is a better batter than Moeen right now and Smiths record against left arm spin is a little worse than against other types of bowling. Got to be worth a punt i feel.

Couldn't agree more.

All a bit too predictable in the end sadly!

To think they were 125-8 in the First innings and we manage to lose by 250 runs.

Archer and Leach to come in for Anderson/Ali maybe?

Does Baistow need to be dropped..

I suppose the key is getting Smith out cheaply but even then we let them get a good few runs yesterday once he was out.

Loard's next - and the Aussies like playing there.

Debatable for a few after their performances in this test. Buttler added nothing. Roy was just daft with his dismissal. I don't want 50's and 100's all round, just don't want people throwing away their wickets like they have done.

Jury's out on half the team. Happy with Root, Woakes and Broad. Burns needs to follow up with another good knock at Lords and not just be a flash in the pan.

He played over 40 shots of which were play and misses in his 100 he wont get away with that again, I ain't holding out much hope but I hope I'm wrong, not sure what's happening to bairstow, needs to get a score to get out of it sharpish.

Well tbh it looked like the least confident 100 I've ever seen yeah. He looks shit scared as a few of them do.

Annoying as all these players are decent, stick with them for now as the last thing we need is a crisis involving all our WC heroes. Moeen is probably the only change I want to see through choice.

I'd only change moeen and obviously Jimmy if he ain't fit.

Denly isn't cut out for this at all.

Denly is a very strange selection - 33 years old and getting most of his runs in division two.

Is Stokes the most overrated test batsmen of all time? Averaging 33 whilst batting at traditionally the easiest positions to bat in.

I'd be questioning Buttler and Bairstow over this test than Stokes to be honest mate.

Jason Roy as a test opener surely can't continue...

Jesus hes only had 3 innings,( Forget Ireland although he did get a score) worse players have had longer than that in the last few years. And we have no other option. I think bairstow should open, I know hes in bad form at the minute and they dont want him keeping and batting early but he came in at 3 in sri lanka and got a ton.

I'd keep him in the side, just not as opener. Sibley or Denly opening up with Burns (Probably Sibley as Denly is playing himself out of the side so far in this series) and give Roy a go down at 4. Having said that, playing at 4 is more or less the same as opening with our standard top-order collapsing. On Bairstow, I'd rather Foakes being in the side personally but he's certainly capable of putting a score on, just needs time in the middle. Maybe you're right by suggesting he's given a go up top.

Whisper it quietly but having been put in to bat that was in the end a decent session for England. Not without scares not least Khawaja putting down Burns but overall he and Denly have done a nice job.

Having root at 3 ain't good either with how quick 1 of the openers are getting out, we need our best player coming in after the new ball has worn a bit. Weve basically got major major batting problems.

Those extra overs might give us a chance to bowl at the Aussie openers ..
Least we have got over 200.

Really could have done with an extra wicket tonight but think England are in the game at least. Good to see Broad getting Warner again, his technique is looking a bit at sea at the moment. Need to get a couple out early tomorrow preferably including Smith.

Well given we’ve lost a huge chunk of play to rain what a test match this is turning into. If England can somehow set above 220 to win then I’d put them back in see if can force a result.

more like we get skittled over for 150 and lose 2-0....I hope your right though, the aussies would've come out swinging and try and get a 200 lead and hope the opposition collapse, but not sure if its our mentality to risk a defeat.

I expect us to be all out for 160, then they chase it down losing 5 or 6 wickets. 2 nil aus

Steve Smith ruled out of the rest of the match with a concussion. Obviously hope he’s going to be ok but this is a big break for England. Probably in doubt for the third test also.

The way they are scoring let Stokes have a chance to get to his 100 then put them back in. Gives us about 50 overs to skittle then a second time. Long shot but it’s possible.
