I went on the third day. Had a good day out. I love a day out at Lords - all the better for buying myself a radio and listening along to TMS.

My brother went to the playoff final today and then zipped over to Lords for the conclusion of the cricket. He's such a sporting event show off.

So Gillespie wanted the job but it was the ECB that rejected him, basically. Disappointed as he's done well in the English game.

Bayliss though is well capable and knows Farbrace, very well. At the end up of the day, I'm more optimistic about our future than I was 7 days ago.

I have a feeling some comments from the last 5 days are going to be quoted....

.. and from further back!

The negativity and general England bashing against the backdrop of a side largely rebuilt only around a year ago and generally progressing well has become very tiresome, boring and shows a distinct lack of patience and understanding on the part of many.

Hopefully this fine performance will put an end to all that nonsense, for a while at least!

I'm not convinced that Gillespie would have been anything more than a punt. Yes he's done well at Yarkshire in a fairly short space of time but he has no international coaching experience. I have a feeling the desire for a 'name' was behind people calling for him to be appointed, as in football 'name' managers and coaches often aren't the best way to go.

Personally I wanted Farbrace to get the job, but if he stays alongside Bayliss that looks a sensible decision and I'm happy with that.

If he does as good a job with England as he did with the wind-up radio everything should be rosy. :)

Good that Farbrace will stick around too, him and Bayliss seemed to trust each other in a big way. They were both on the bus that was attacked in Lahore in 09 too.

Says he will start after the next test, reckon it'll have the same sort of impact as Lehmann did for the Aussies. They seem to have the same sort of principles, play with freedom etc, furthering what Farbrace has brought.

Runs for Bell and Lyth and wickets for Mo at Headingley would be very handy indeed. Both batted at very testing times against two class bowlers, so perhaps with clear skies and a sunny day at Headingley they can get a few.

T20 for me over the next two days. Heading to Lords to see us play Middlesex tomorrow, then 26 of us are heading to Beckenham to see us beat Surrey on Friday.

It's nice to get a bit of slog now and again, especially when beer is involved.

Weather permitting I'm off to the NCG on Friday night to see the mighty Ceynty thrash the Birmingham Bears about. Suspect a large part of the crowd will be Pakistani/British Asian, Afridi should draw them in.

At least that made it worthwhile, the team have been nothing short of embarrassing!

2nd test starts tommorrow. Be a draw. Rain expected most days, especially Monday and Tuesday. Unless something drastic happens, one suspects the rain will ruin what could be a great second test match.

Play to start at 1:10 IF it doesn't rain again. Showers and more rain are around and will be all day. Be surprised if we get 30 overs in.

Quite nice down here.

Another reason we shouldn't have tests up north.

Maybe you can build a new ground with retractable roof.

I've had a bet on the draw based upon the forecasted weather, although New Zealand clearly need to push for a result. Quite happy we've chosen to bowl first.
