The way Lee Bell puts together squads is unconventional I'll give him that. Ridiculously overstocked on CMs now, even if Lunt goes out on loan, which is what I think Bell was hinting at after the Wimbledon game.

Lowery won't replace Lankester obviously, but I have serious questions over not just his fitness record, but whether his style of play will even remotely work with Bell's. We saw Kirk struggle last season in similar circumstances and we've seen our current crop of creative midfielders find it tough. Is Lowery so good that he can rise above that? Or drag our style of play to something even remotely resembling what it was a few years ago? I agree with TNO, it's huge gamble. Fascinated to see if it pays off.

Assuming he stays fit (huge assumption), if Bell can't make it work with somebody as talented as him, then long term he isn't the right manager for us, given our business model. If he can't correctly use a fit Tom Lowery, then how is he going to bring through saleable creative and attacking assets in the future?

I'm not saying the above scenario will happen btw, just offering a hypothetical. Hopefully the twitter brigade won't pounce on this.

Ahh good old Andy Dallas, if it wasn’t for him we’d still be in non league.
Missed 2 absolute sitters in our play off final v Solihull then accidentally flicked on Croppers long throw for our winner, what a guy.
Scored a load of goals that season for Solihull but nearly all against the dross of the league like Dover so everybody thought that he was good.
Turns out he’s actually quite shit and always bottles it in big games.

Had a couple of good seasons in NL 4/5 years ago then started playing games (or his agent did) and thinking he was a lot better than he is and hasn’t done anything of note for at least a couple of years or more.

I am confident that GTFC Fish will have this down as a BAD SIGNING
Think you’re getting me mixed up with Son of Cod mate.

Always rated him at NL level, always played well against us anyway.
He took a while to hit his straps with us, then had a purple patch to help us towards the end of that season. Then became a massive dong, apparently verbally agreed a new deal before reneging on it and leaving. His career since this has been a fun watch. Regardless I'm not sure he's a well rounded enough player for league football, although the Barrow fans would be better judges of that.

Luke Williams killed his confidence completely randomly dropping him for that Mansfield game last season. We’d been doing well as a team and he’d been solid if not outstanding until then. Every time he came back after that he looked a nervous wreck. Hope he does well wherever he ends up.

Stone to me felt like the reverse lower league prototype, we all get conditioned to accept the ‘good shot stopper but bad distribution and handling types’ and I always felt like Stone was maybe the least effective shot stopper I’ve seen in my entire life as a Notts fan (he couldn’t really dive properly is my scathing critique as someone who knows nothing about goalkeeping) but also seemed pretty reliable in other aspects.

Good luck to him though, seems a nice guy and I’ll never forget the Slocombe, Stone, Ashby-Hammond triumvirate

Based on what I’ve been reading, I think I’ll pass on Andy Dallas.

If we sign him we sign him, but it’s not one that looks like could be a game changer for us.

Tom is a fantastic player. The only worry u got is if he stays fit. If he does I reckon he'll be the best player L2 have seen in a long time.

Josh Benson on loan from Barnsley apparently. Holloway signed him for Grimsby back around Covid. Any thoughts or memories of him brothers Grim? 2 goals in 11 appearances according to Wiki.

Dobra's head getting turned is of course the other factor that hasn't been mentioned. Probably quite judgemental of me, but based off the way he carries himself on the pitch it wouldn't surprise me if he's a kick-his-toys-out-the-pram type if Chesterfield start knocking back 400k+ moves for him. McAtee is probably one of the closest comparisons in recent times. Similar age, standout NL season, under contract etc. We got less than 400k for him but it was beefed up with add ons and we got him back on loan for the whole season. I think we got some form of add on fee when he went to Bolton but it was fairly minimal. The add ons, in my opinion, need to be added with an air of caution as they can become massively devalued if they don't do as well as you'd hoped at their new club. Percentage of profit isn't a great add on for L2 clubs unless you're selling to someone like Peterborough who have a long history of developing players and who you know can rinse Championship clubs of fees. Selling them to basket case clubs like Wigan as we did with Omar Bogle was crap for us as they sold him a window or two later for pretty much what we sold him for.

Good player very good on the ball , suprised he would be back in league 2 but I could have said the same for Embleton and he's gone to Carlisle for the dogfight at the bottom so I know absolutely nothing ; that's the same with Holloway aswell although the caveat is he did do well with us the first year - maybe it will actually go alright if there is no other off pitch involvement .

Tom Lowery coming home for the rest of the season if he passes his medical today. Miniesta is a Championship level player and will be an amazing signing and provide the creativity we desperately lack if he can stay fit. He's only played 30 games over the last 2 and a half seasons, so that's a big if. I think he has been fit for all of this season, but Pompey left him out of their squad because of his past injury problems.
He's the one Big Dave loves isn't he suprised he's come back to league 2 . Lowery , Ainley and Kirk haven't really kicked on career wise have they in terms of playing higher up . Who's the one's from that academy playing at the highest levels now ?

I'm no physio so could be talking complete shite, but I wonder if the 6 month break will actually help him, and has allowed his body to recover? I believe he's been training with your 1st team and hasn't missed a session through injury all season, and he's played in some behind closed doors friendlies. Sounds like he's not far off match fitness, and we should see him in the 2nd half on Saturday.

Yeah that was strange. Like with most interesting questions about Notts I don’t recall Williams ever getting asked about it. Definitely a better keeper than Slocombe, though that’s not saying much.

Ainley was very highly rated as a kid, but never looked good enough as a first teamer. I thought Kirk would probably end up as higher end L1 player, he can do great things but the whole package wasn't quite there. Pickering and Ng are both Championship regulars and Lowery would be if not for injuries imo. Pickering and Lowery were always the pick of the group for me.

Ng, Wintle, Pickering and Dale are all playing in the Championship. There has been talk of Premier League interest in Ng over the past year.

I actually think Lowery is the best of the lot, but injuries have held him back.

Artell actually refused to play Lowery for the first few months of our relegation season, because he didn't want to sign a new contract. He did this despite Wintle and Ng doing the same in the previous season, yet allowed them to play. I believe he thought Lowery would back down and sign a new deal, and it would prove a point to other academy graduates about not running down your contract. It got to around October/November and (allegedly) the chairman stepped in and told him that we're bottom of the League and it may be a good idea to play our best player. He went on to win players player of the season.

Been rumoured as a signing for a while but I thought it would be a loan. 2 1/2 year contract though. No idea if he was free or whether we paid a fee.

From what I've seen, he was highly rated by Chelmsford but the jury's out as to whether he'll cut it two levels higher.

In Craig Cope we trust.

I think Dallas might suprise a few of us and be useful. I'd take him because right now we've only really got two fit strikers in Hugill and Scott until Kelly and then Wyke come back from injury.

The ignore button is so useful and efficient.

Look I don't like Viking Magpie either but that word is a bit harsh even on him mate.

In all seriousness I don't actually know who you are referring to?

Still a bit torn on Artell , I actually quite like him but it always feels like implosion could be around the corner ; arguing with fans in our main stand seems to have become a semi-regular occurence which is mildly amusing but maybe not the best look .

Matus Holicek and Zac Williams are destined for bigger things. Joel Tabiner is talented but he's been a bit off it this season. As always, there's a few good ones who haven't quite broken through yet, but hopefully they'll get a chance soon. It's a bit weird this season as our average age is low but we've got a few loans from elsewhere and there's only a handful of our academy graduates getting regular starts.

There he goes again :ffs: . Sets to ignore but can't stop, won't stop the obsessive comments.

Thin skinned yet mouthy. An interesting combo.

Dallas was class for us in a 4-2-3-1 and suited our formation perfectly. He’s not really a CF or a winger, but he is busy, quick and has a decent finish. Think he would do well for a lower league 2 side but no higher than that. Top end of NL is probably his level.

According to twitter we are signing Dara Costelloe on loan from Burnley. A striker who was on loan at Accrington for the first half of the season, their fans seemed sad to see him go which is a positive, not sure if there are any accy fans here but anyone else seen him this so far this season?
