That's how I'd like to see us line up against the Swiss.

Against San Marino though, I'd give Shelvey a go over Carrick

Milner is useless for England without exception.

I'd like to see Shelvey start.
Hart
Clyne - Anyone - Anyone - Shaw
Jonjo - Milner
Ox - Bark - Raheem
Kane
Carrick should be pretty much overlooked given the level of the opposition and his age. We shouldn't need him for the qualifiers and he'll likely be done by the time a tournament comes round so there's no point in persisting with him unless all other options are dead. Rooney will start so he can break a record, but he shouldn't be in the 11 and probably not even the squad based on form. Kane despite not scoring hasn't actually played poorly, he's just suffering from the shite service at Spurs. Vardy should only play if he's playing off of a striker or coming on for Sterling or something so he can wear down tired defenders. But I imagine that'll end up being Walcotts job.

Do we need to play 4231 against San Marino? Is there any point of starting four defenders?

Nope, but Woy isn't going to experiment is he? Saying that I don't think he's brought the personnel to play 3 at the back. Unless you think Clyne and Shaw make good wingbacks. But if we were to do that then players like Ashley Young should be in the side. Also Vardy works extremely well in a 3-5-2 but he's sure as shit not going to get a start even if he were the best man for that set up.

Nah course he isn't, he's far too set in his ways for that. But I've always asked myself why larger nations don't try unconventional formations against minnows. All you'd need is a quick guy to stand on the half way line to stop any breakaways, and the rest of the side can all be creative/fast players who will look to get past the parked bus.

Milner is useless for England without exception.

Milner has been shoved out wide for much of his England career to work a flank and provide protection for the full back. It would be nice to see him in what should be his most effective position.

Smalling along with Shaw has been United's best player this season (and was their best outfield player last season) yet you pick Cahill?

I don't disagree. I just think Cahill has experience in what is a very new defence with Shaw and Stones whilst Clyne doesn't have much international experience either. Plus within the spine of your team, you're trying to build partnerships so I'd personally look to build a Stones/Cahill partnership for the Euros.

Wish Vardy would stop getting called up, he looks like a scrubber

Smalling is coming into his prime and improving meanwhile Cahill is being found out and won't be a regular in the Chelsea team for much longer I don't think. Also Smalling takes on more responsibility in the United back four than Cahill does in the Chelsea defence.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you'll only move above us if we don't win tomorrow (which may happen), but seeing as we're dealing in facts.

Find all this Wales>England shit quite laughable really. It'll be the first time they've qualified since 1958 won't it? This is as dour an England side as I've seen yet the're waltzing through their group and will qualify for the 8th time out of the 9 campaigns I've seen.

Hearing the fans of other sides getting off at seeing their team do something your own side regards as a formality, then claiming they're better is quite amusing.

You're a bit like Bristol Rovers fans thinking they're the dogs bollocks for getting promoted out of non-league.

If we beat Slovenia tomorrow than we move above you again...

Not that the rankings suggest anything. In its next update it will say that England and Wales are better than Spain, Italy and France. Even better than all of us, and the second best football nation in Europe is Romania.

Never doubt me again, Wales are better than England.

Wales are above England in the Fifa rankings for the first time as they prepare for Thursday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia.
Chris Coleman's team held on to ninth - their highest-ever position - while England fell two places to 10th.

We should stop playing friendlies as well to fly up those rankings like Wales and Romania have done. Smart tactic.

The footballing powerhouse that is Romania are 7th.

These world rankings have always been shit, I doubt anyone takes any notice of them.

Happy that Michail Antonio has been called up - him on the right and Sterling on the left either side of Kane and/or Vardy could work well.

Not so happy about having both Henderson and Drinkwater in the squad ahead of Barkley. One of them would be fine, but both, ahead of a kid who can beat a player, shoot from distance and do the unexpected is a shame. But the cm's role under Allardyce will probably be just feed the wingers.

There's a truly ghastly rumour going around that Jordan Henderson is set to be announced as captain.

Henderson shouldn't even be in the squad if you were allowed to pick 50. The idea he deserves to be captain is absurd.

Would much prefer it if we didn't have a designated captain, just give the armband to whoever has the most caps of the starting XI.
