If you're not much of a drinker or pub guy, what do you look for in an away day? Might sound like I'm taking the piss but I'm genuinely not.

Somewhere to eat?
See the area?
Easy to travel to?

I've always thought Charlton would a poor away day for a Gillingham fan. Charlton itself is now crap with the closure of most pubs. The only reason it's a good away day for those coming from the north is because they land in London and there's a few places they can jump off on the way to Charlton. Coming from Gillingham, there's nowhere to really jump off at, I suppose you could have a few jars in Dartford but then you're still 25 mins away from Charlton.

I had a couple of early ones in Bexleyheath the day we played you, and then jumped on a 480 bus which is very convenient. Am I right in thinking that the next nearest pub at the top of the hill, about a 15 minute walk away?

Purely based on pubs alone, Bristol Rovers wins by a country mile. There are 2 at the entrance to Montpelier railway station, and at least another half dozen on the walk up Gloucester Road.

You could walk past the antigallican and turn left towards the The Rose of Denmark which welcomes away fans. Other than that, yes up the hill is now the only other options. I now just go to one of my local haunts in abbey wood and then get on the train there.

Where did you drink in bexleyheath?

Bristol Rovers is comfortably my favourite away day. Great place to mooch around and drink. Love the city, even had my stag do there.

It is a long time since I lived in your neck of the woods, but if we came up from Plymouth I think I'd stop off in Blackheath and walk down or go to Greenwich and get a bus, more likely the latter as the former is a bit of a trek.

I always recommend to any away fan to get off at Greenwich and drink there.

Blackheath is also very good but like you say, Greenwich is 5 mins on the train and also more choice once there.

Peterborough is probably my favourite away day. Not too hard to get too, lots of pubs and I think it's quite a nice place in general. The one time I went to Charlton I really enjoyed that too. Missing Chesterfield this year as I think that's one of the best away days about.

I say this a lot, but if you go to Shrewsbury for an away day, arrive before 1 o’clock and go on a pub crawl in the town centre. So many great pubs to choose from depending on what you like.

It’s also a decent night out if you’re making a weekend of it

Charlton, out of the station, into the Antigallican, wooden floors and football on the TV, round the corner from the ground. Sorted.

Completely the wrong way to do Charlton away.

Plus with a ten and eleven year in tow, there'll be lots of moaning if I go off on a hike. Kids of today eh.

Mainly in the Rose, because it had Sky. It had a decent atmosphere to be fair, and wasn't full of kids, unlike the William Camden

You've been a great asset to this board except that one post where you acted like Wigan weren't shit.
There was one where he said he didn’t like women who had jobs or summat. Other than that ( which we’ll gloss over) I agree.

Doesn't like women with jobs?

Strip clubs and massage parlours would be a bit boring.

Been to Antigallican. Me and my boys got there for about 11. Was already pissed up after sharing a crate and a bottle of vodka on the train. Ended up in Deptford after the game.
Mate fun.

Do we have Wimbledon fans on here? Need on or two for a Q&A for one of our forums.

You think Peterborough is a nice place in general?! The villages surrounding it are some of the best in the country, Stamford which is about 10 miles away is often voted the best place to live in the UK, but Peterborough city centre is an absolute dive!

You're right about the pubs though, Charters (the one on the boat if anyone has been) is a fantastic little place with a great beer garden for the spring/summer matches.

Camborne isn't great, but it isn't Redruth and the nearest beach is less than 4 miles away.

In that respect Camborne>Oxford
My wife's Sisters were raised in Camborne and when they came up here to visit us they thought Grimsby and Cleethorpes were amazing with loads to do, which I guess says a lot about the limited stuff there is to do in Camborne.

Yeah, pretty much. There are lots of better places to go that are less than half an hour away (except Redruth obvs). Most of our pubs are quite
cheap though, especially compared to Penzance , Falmouth and Newquay.

Hope we put out a strong side tomorrow and actually beat a non-league team. Lovell can rest them in midweek, as we are already through in the pisspot Trophy.
