We play 1 upfront, with Jamie Walker, Harry Chapman and Alex Pattison in behind.

Rose ain’t getting anywhere near our starting XI.

I consider most of your squad dross purely because there isn’t one player who I think walks into our starting XI.
There were definitely times last season when Derbyshire played alongside another centre forward.

And no, you consider our side dross because you've backed yourself into a corner and you're not able to admit you went OTT. The fact that you can't articulate your thoughts on who specifically in our squad is dross proves that you're ignorant regarding our players.

I must admit i was rather curious when you boys said you were realistically aiming for the top 7, but you’ll know your side better than most.

Aye, Derbyshire played alongside Cook when we were chasing games. Much like when you lot visited VP and lost 3-2.

We very rarely deviated from Hughes’ trusty 4231.

I don’t need to articulate my thoughts on a bunch of players who finished 15 points below us in the table. It’s fairly self-explanatory why I’ve come to that conclusion.

They’re opinions mate - stop acting so precious.

I'd completely forgotten Matt Derbyshire was still playing. I remember watching him on loan with us back in 2005.

Acting precious? All I'm doing is asking you to back your opinion up with some form elaboration as I'm genuinely interested.

Back on topic: More chance of platting fog than Grimsby finishing top 7.

I bet we had Rose and Cook at the same time? The latter rarely played though, just never worked.
Rose and Cook were at Mansfield during the curtailed 2019/20 season.
John Dempster rarely played them together. Rose started the season with Cook coming on as sub for Rose.
When Coughlan replaced Dempster, he played Cook with Rose replacing him as sub and again he rarely played them together on the pitch at the same tIme.

Coughlan got rid of Rose early in the 2020/21 season.

Grimsby look reliable to me. They’re finishing somewhere between like 6th and 11th. Won’t concede many, won’t score any either. One of the easiest teams to predict IMO. Strong and stable.

Yep as I suspected, you're unable to offer any kind of substance on that opinion. Thanks for confirming mate.

Yep, in an unprecedented move from Hursty we've signed 5 forwards so far this window. 2 proven at this level and then 3 in the wildcard category so massively up in the air regarding whether or not we'll be better going forward. A few dire performances aside though, we were tough to break down/beat last season and we've bolstered the defence well so far so I think you're pretty bang on with that assessment personally.

Mansfield don’t seem as fancied compared to last season, I mean the ultimate choke at the end of every season does put people off including myself so I understand it but I would not consider last season a choke considering the circumstances.

I like the fact we need to do minimal changes, three brought in so far with two maybe three more to come but that includes two that were at loan here last season. It’s all about making sure our defence is up to scratch considering we score plenty and even more importantly trying to not play majority of the season with 10 players out injured would be helpful.

I made a concerted effort to be nice to Bradford fans last season after the last time we were in League 2 as I unfairly and mercilessly mocked their ST prices and massiveness and saw the error of my ways. However, I didn't account for the fact that Firthy is a man who could get into an argument if he was locked in a room on his own.

I have you down for a real top three push. Injuries fucked you over, you're one of the best teams in the division.

Can’t see any reason why those in and around the POs last season won’t be so again this - maybe the Salford dream is going to run out of puff. Remains to be seen whether Notts County, Wrexham and Saudi-backed Gillingham will cut the mustard. We underperformed badly last season so question marks remain about us - ditto Donny and Tranmere. Can’t see the relegated sides doing much - maybe Franchise. Walsall could improve.

12 teams after 4 places

As Son of Cod rightly said Grimsby definitely belong in this thread. OPERATION PROMOTION 2.0.

Anything less than top 3 with the business they’re doing and the hype train their fans are all jumping on will be an absolute embarrassment etc etc

Bradford’s biggest problem ( other than the expectancy of winning all the time) is the manager. Doesn’t seem to have a grasp of league two football. A half decent competent manager would have got the Bradford squad promoted by now

Agreed Bradford could do better than Hughes at this level.

You can say that but Bradford had Derek Adams in this league and his record proves he is more than competent at this level and he was dreadful there.

Sometimes feel with Bradford they need someone as OTT as the club is at this level. I always think that silly De Canio at Swindon situation is the type Bradford could do with down here, an outspoken name, flamboyant who would get fanbase behind them……..just cannot think who.

We sort of have that with Hughes being the name he is. But the type of football he plays wastes our home advantage. We had multiple crowds over 20k last season we should be making bloody use of it but his slow tempo football just bores everyone.

And yes, Adams was awful. He's clearly and obviously proven at this level with his success, but his style and way of going about things was never going to work at the 'big fish' in the pond. He works on being the underdog, getting more than the sum of the parts out of the team and never shuts up about xG. In hindsight was probably never going to work with us.

Finally something different on the menu. The Gillingham and Mansfield cut got a bit bland after a while.

Yep, takes a really good manager to be able to go from one of those underdog types scrabbling around with peanuts to a bigger club with a bigger budget and the expectations that come with it. You have to be really wary when going after your Wilds and your Colemans and your Hursts that their philosophy probably doesn't fit with your club if you're massive and that the likelihood is that it won't work out. It's tempting to spin that wheel though as there is generally a few of them kicking around that are attainable, but they're tempting partly because they've been given time...something which isn't necessarily dished out to smaller names at bigger clubs.

That cut was purely based on denial of GOING FOR IT™️ but I think they have learned to embrace it a tad more now.

And absolutely nothing to do with them signing Lapslie because he has been replaced with someone cheaper and better and that is a fact.

Seriously though I do properly rate Lapslie, Dunn is much better technically on the ball but other than that it’s close. Both need to be played in a 10 role though.
Dunn looks quality to be fair, one of the best attacking mids I saw last season. Rate Lapslie too but I reckon you might be right about Dunn being better from the little I've seen of them both. However having said that, I think we came up against Dunn 3 times last season and were undefeated whereas Lapslie scored past us for Gillingham when they beat us.
