Whereabouts are you, PuB? And any of the Gills lot for that matter? Any good Kent recommendations are appreciated. Think I've only been to Faversham, Rochester and Canterbury. Oh and Gillingham away. And Bromley if we're counting that.

Yep one advantage of being London based for the last six years or so has been that I've missed elsewhere playing catch-up in terms of beer prices. Smaller towns still seem to be cheaper but all the big cities are on par with London now. I don't think London pub prices have increased that much in recent years.
I’m in a little village on the river the other side of Sittingbourne to where you’ll be. Whitstable is great for a day out plenty of food and drink places by the sea, not your typical seaside town either, you’re on the mainline down to the coast though and the only place I would say isn’t worth a visit is Margate. But that might just be me, there’s a little seaside town called Leysdown that reminds me of Skeg when I go (or Chapel St. Lenords if you know it), a warning though it’s rough round the edges but fun.

Can’t go wrong with Rochester (I spend a lot of time there myself) or Canterbury, loads of gardens around or castles if they’re your thing, vineyards that offer tours and local breweries, depends what kind of thing you’re looking for really.

As mentioned by someone else above I think you’ve lucked out with Faversham, everything you need in walking distance and decent choices for food and drink too, if I was going to move back to a town I’d look there myself.

Faversham is great, but Canterbury is also very nice, but expensive I would avoid visiting the medway towns (I live there ) apart from Rochester

You're all making me feel young now! My £2 pint was about 2005/6 when I first started going out at 15/16 18.

Mind i remember going to see my best mate in newcastle first year of uni in 2002 and you could get a pint of newcastle brown ale for 50p, proper stuff that

Just to get in on the price of beer act...

My teacher used to ask me to run to the shops a dinner time to buy him some cigarettes. I used to pop in the pub and have a swifty. It was 48p for a pint of Ben Trueman. I was 14. Already 6ft tall.

That teacher got put in prison for selling home grown cannabis to school kids. That really pissed me off because he never once offered me any.

Depends what you're after really, I think the others have mentioned the better big towns, but Kent is full of genuinely lovely villages which in the main are far nicer than the towns. I'm from the Maidstone area, and I won't try and pretend that it's a great town but it's absolutely fine unless you're there for a night out (no idea how old you are/your weekend antics). Lots of really good pubs there though if you know where to look.

Generally though I'd stick to my initial point - most of the main towns are a little bit rough and ready, (even Canterbury is a bit shit these days) but you'll find a load of gems around which make Kent what it is. Faversham is really well located for getting to a lot of places, either up to London or down to the coast, it won't take you ages either way.

I left Kent back in September last year, and the main reason we did so was down to the fact that for work I have to travel round the country a lot, which can be hard to do from Kent if/when the Dartford Crossing decides to be a nightmare. The major roads tend to be incredibly easy to fail with just a hint of bad traffic, and of course whenever there's issues down at the Port of Dover, most of Kent is at a standstill. That aside, enjoy!

Was away with work in the Waterloo area of London - I had to part with £26 for four 330ml bottles of Staropramen in a fairly standard looking establishment.
Ive just died  ive been out for my sunday lunchtime pint four pints of amstel and a bit of tortilla tapas and spent 10 euros

Cheers for the Kent chat all you who replied, nice to read positive comments regarding Faversham and the county in general. Definitely got mixed emotions about leaving London and going even deeper into The South so your words are appreciated.

I'd be very surprised if our budget two seasons ago was significantly bigger than yours. Last season, absolutely, but not the season you went up. For every Mullin, Tozer and Palmer we had a Tyler French, Christian Dibble and Jordan Ponticelli.
You spent more on transfer fees that season than we had in the 2 1/2 years since we’d been taken over.

Absolutely, we spent about 3 times what you did weve basically bought an entirely new squad over the past two seasons. But I'm talking about wages which probably weren't too far apart. In fact now we've had financial returns from that season there wasn't that big a gap between us, Grimsby or Chesterfield. I don't think you showed your wages in those returns.

Go on then we’ll borrow your place for now as 4 transfer fees paid out in the same window is completely unheard of for us.

I got 2 pints in a pub in Bradford for less than a fiver last season which automatically made it my favourite away day last season. Didn't even reach the minimum £5 spend on card!
There's places in Bradford still exercising the minimum card spend? If really is like stepping into the past.

That’s called grooming mate.
There's a Gary Delaney joke about being so ugly I had to give sweets to get a cuddle.

Back on topic.

Grimsby were the best side I saw last season and they seem to have added well. Play offs only though because the big money will be able to buy again in January.

Some places still do it. I'm banned from the chippy at the bottom of our road because I got into an argument with the owner because I ordered £8.50's worth of food and when I tried to pay on card he said the minimum charge was a tenner. He quickly caveated that with "so you can just buy a can of pop or something". Obviously I wasn't having that and he eventually told me he didn't like my attitude mate to which I responded with "well I don't like your attitude mate." Had to ring my missus and tell her she was gonna have to wait a bit longer for chips and thought I was gonna get a bollocking but she was happy with my behaviour. Ended up discovering a new Chinese a few doors down, which funnily enough is a cash only establishment but at least they told me that before I ordered so I could go get money out and they don't even have a card reader. The chippy guy waited until the food was bagged up and said "so you can just buy a can of pop". So. It was definitely the "so" that tipped me over the edge. As if the transaction was a formality. No pal. I'm Ryan Bennett in this scenario and you are Grimsby Town. I'm taking my business elsewhere and you're gonna have to bring in Harvey Rodgers now.

And yes, cool story bro.

Also had a minimum spend issue in a chippy, although I gladly agreed for her to add a cob to the order to make it above the threshold.

If the minimum had been a fiver too I'd probably have been alright with it, but a tenner? I'd never heard of that before even when minimum spend on a card was all the rage.

Corn on the cob from a chippy?

Nice healthy living alternative I guess, I commend your choice.

It caused a lot of problems in the Valley Parade ticket office too as there is a £10 minimum spend in there so everybody buying a season ticket was forced to pay by cash instead.

Of course it’s a breadcake you knuckle dragger, it’s the shape of a cake and made of bread. A bap is something Adam West did on Batman and a cob is something you feed to a horse, hear endeth the Yorkshire sermon

Yep, what I want to know is whether or not Adam Stag goes with his native cob or has he been Manc'd to the point that it's a barm?
