Look at the below map of the greatest rivers in the world. Some flow North, some South, some Easterly and Westerly. Some are below the Ecuador, above and near the Ecuador.

The longest rivers are thousands of miles in length. Many, like the Nile and the Missouri are in central valley plains and deserts with little or no elevations.
