He's on the plane.

Vardy is getting a film about him thanks to his rise in the game, I think Rashface might get a call from Hollywood.
Bollywood would be so much better though, but you take what you can get.

That's where he's playing, and where he always plays for England
Well kind of. He plays off of the defensive midfielder so he sits deep but he's not a 'dm' as we'd generally describe them. Dier was the DM in the last match, Wilshere wasn't. It's all getting a bit 'feefa' though ain't it?

Plays at the bottom of the diamond. Whatever his role is.

The problem with this system for England is that you've got Drinkwater and Henderson in and around the area, while Wilshere is sitting on the centre circle.

That's all well and good against Australia's B Team. But at the Euros we're going to struggle with the water carrier getting the freedom and not the creative player.

Yeah I don't really get why Wilshere isn't in the advanced position with Drinkwater and Henderson playing box to box. They've got the legs on him and he's got the creativity on them.

wilshere playing the deep lying role vs the frightening attacking talent of australia. suicidal i tell you. he's obviously there with the intent to start attacks, henderson and drinkwater are playing box to box. don't see a problem with it against crap teams. dier will play when the defence needs some protection, which they don't tonight

It's not about it being suicidal defensively it's about it being blunt offensively. Drinkwater and Henderson can feed the ball into Wilshere in a more advanced position on turnovers and we'll have more bodies and better attacking players in the rght positions then.
This is all just a run out really though. We won't see them line up anything like this come tournament time. So it's all a bit meh.

I didn't once mention the defence when criticising the system England is playing. The problem is... well what I posted first time.

"with this system for England is that you've got Drinkwater and Henderson in and around the area, while Wilshere is sitting on the centre circle"

EDIT: Also there have been a few times that Wilshere has picked the ball up deep and his options have been an aimless put or to take on the whole Aussie midfield by himself.

He didn't play there in the last game and if we play the diamond at the tournament he won't play there then either.

He's played at the base of the diamond in a number of qualifying games as well.

I'm well aware of that but that is not what Silvergull said.

I wonder when Raheem Sterling will learn he got just run through defenders :ffs:

"with this system for England is that you've got Drinkwater and Henderson in and around the area, while Wilshere is sitting on the centre circle"

well yeah, they are, cos this system calls for box to box players along with the deep lying player. does wilshere have the legs to play that role, helping close the space in the middle of the pitch as well as getting wide to help his fullback given he's been injured forever? wouldn't you be wasting the engine of drinkwater/henderson by telling them to stand still and spray the ball around?

the real problem with the system isn't with individual roles, it's that it's shite overall and doesn't fit the players at his disposal. but as jj said, it's just a run out so we probably can't read too much in to it.

Milner and Rooney on. Inspiring.

Not a dig at WOY, btw. I am certainly not on that bandwagon; at least, not at the moment.

Is Sturridge in danger of not making the plane? He's not a first choice striker in the side with Kane and Vardy and to a lesser extent the captain so would Roy take Sturridge if he's an injury risk given Rashford could come into the 23 man squad and probably isn't in danger of getting much game time anyway?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Is it telling that he has shunted Vardy wide to use this formation in the last game and has done the same with both forwards today to put Rooney there?

Between Rooney and Kane for the single striking berth for the opener?

If he's going one up front, why take four strikers anyway?

I think so. The injury to Sturridge and Rashford's goal in what has been billed as a "test game" for him has made it a distinct possibility.

If Sturridge was able to prove himself fit before the cut-off point for the squad registration I would hope Roy would opt for Sturridge, though.

Great strike from Rooney. Don't think the ball was all that great from Sterling, a little behind the run left Rooney with a lot to do, great shot.

I reckon so. It will be Kane by himself with Rooney deeper. A compromise.

Better than Rooney on his own, I suppose.
