Swindon will bounce back, its a fairly young squad and they are a decent football side, we had to give everything to get through that, they possibly lacked inexperience on and off the pitch and that may have been the difference between progressing and not, Crosby has said that they used the comments to fire the side up so its a learning curve for their younger players to maybe not say the things they did about an opponent and do the team talk.

We've had four big battles though, 2 wins each and I wish them well going forward next season.

Our best players were probably both full backs and Baudry at centre half which shows where we struggled. McKirdy, Barry and Davison were just totally nullified. Have to credit Vale for that. Think we were the better side second half and in extra time without looking like scoring at all.

Yeah spot on. For all the nonsense written pre-match Vale got their tactics absolutely spot on. I didn't like what Conroy said pre-match, I just think it adds added pressure onto you when you talk like he did. Vale were miles better than us first half but I think we had more control during the rest of the match, but as I said Stone may as well have been in the pub until penalties as he had absolutely nothing to do. Too many off days from us unfortunately and we ended up paying the ultimate penalty. It's never going to happen but I think Wilson would be a superb addition to our team, really classy player.

Agree totally. Why players feel the need to do the other teams pre match talk for them i'll never know.

We move on...excited to see how we build for next season.

Willo is a level above, his touch is Premier League level, you don't play over 15 times for Man United unless you have something about you, its just a shame injuries have hampered him which is probably why he is plying his trade at Vale... he's never really settled at clubs but he is local and seems to have found a home with us.

Agreed. I have to say it’s pretty refreshing to see Swindon fans’ comments on here about the game & Garner

Aye they’ve taken it well.

Hoping i’m not having to do the same in 8 days

To be within one game of having local games against derby and sheffield wednesday is unreal.

I think Garner will have learned some lessons. Firstly, I was surprised that he played exactly the same team, therefore we knew exactly what to expect and we had clearly prepared for it. Secondly, I think you need to mix it up a bit....possession based football looks great but at this level the players aren't quite good enough to execute that final pass....when you mixed it up a bit you looked more dangerous. You need a better focal point than the lad with the ponytail...he just didn't offer enough. Finally, I think he needs to have a chat with a couple of players about humility. I said before the game that there was an air of arrogance and our assistant manager even alluded to it. Don't preempt a game beforehand....just let the football do the talking. It essentially did our team talk for us. I don't think Garner once said good luck or well done to Port Vale...I get that he was annoyed with what happened at the end but I suspect the lack of humility comes from the top.

With a period to reflect now and add to your squad, and learn lessons, I'm sure you'll be up there next season.

Unfortunately we didn't/weren't able to recruit sufficiently up front and Josh Davison (the lad with the ponytail) has literally been our only focal point as a target man. We literally have nobody else. Our lack of squad depth this season has hurt us and last night was case in point where Davison was having a stinker yet we had nobody to replace him with. Similarly with Barry who wasn't good last night was replaced by Ben Gladwin, a totally different player. Next season we should be much more organised and have a squad I hope will kick on.

The main view of this compared to the game at VP in January was Davison is no Tyrese Simpson, he bullied us all over the place that day.

It clearly wound up our players, I didnt realise at the end Harratt ran towards the away end and did the McKirdy celebration that he did to our fans Sunday!

Gibbons has tweeted the Pigs are off to Wembley! (McKirdy called us pigs before the first leg)

Reminds me of when our League Cup final tickets went on sale and loads of people who bought one online had their card hacked.

The game last night was much better than the game the previous night. Overall Port Vale deserved there win . But quite honestly at the point of Mckirdy taking his penalty -- He should have just buried it and no way would Vale have come back from that. I think his antics have cost Swindon a chance of promotion . Anyway Vale will win at Wembley.

Tickets sorted! Seemed a smooth process if not a bit awkward to select your seat!

Ah really? Might as well not turn up now if Vale are going to win!

Yeah but easier using a laptop than phone I found but was easy enough. Tickets purchased anyway.

Gave the game a watch back today didn’t appreciate at the time just how well Tom Pett played. Controlled the midfield I felt and well done young Kian for the way he was running the channels. Some great penalties under pressure from Pett, Gibbo and Benning. Less said about Ryan Edmondsons the better, about as bad as Diana Ross at USA94 that was but at least he had the balls to step up.

Has Darrell Clarke say why he did what he did?
I always thought coming back onto the touchline was a final throw of the dice to get something at Exeter and he has just carried it on.
He is clearly not right yet in the head to deal with these high pressure situations. Probably was too soon.

He apologised and just said the emotions got to him and wasn't excusable. Hopefully he isn't banned at Wembley as he deserves to lead the side out after what hes gone through but guess the EFL have to be consistent so wont be able to have any complaints if banned.

At the back end here pretty much that he just a bit caught up in the game.

I still don't know what he was trying to do though?
He was with us a long time and we never saw him do anything like that.
Totally out of character and we had plenty of ups and downs with Darrell (mainly ups I should add)

What’s he been through may I ask? I’ve seen it alluded to but without an explanation.

Congrats to Vale (and stags too), hope you all enjoy your day out at Wembley. It’s a fantastic experience.

close family bereavement, he took a few months off from February before coming back part time to work with the director of football preparing for next season and then returned to the dug out to manage the team for the last 4 games.

I don't think the circumstances are public yet but he alludes to it in his interview with sky.

It really was tragic.

Aye that’s what happened, he still knows a lot of people in mansfield and folk here knew it also, clearly a horrible thing to experience and whereas (as he admits) it’s not excusable it’s a pretty decent case for leniency

It’s why i wanted vale in the final, whereas i’d give absolutely anything to beat them next saturday, seeing DC win it would at least be a small comfort.
