Just listened to the Guardian Politics Weekly podcast. Polly Toynbee managed to convince herself that Corbyn winning will embolden Eurosceptic Tories and that they'll successfully drive the 'out' campaign to victory in the referendum.

I'm genuinely baffled by some of the shit I've heard in relation to this election.

Corbynites confident?

Or is it the Corbyfandom?

I'm sure the papers will come up with an acceptable term at some point :bg:

Too many unknowns at the moment for me. Euro referendum, migrant crisis, potential Chinese economy downfall, new Tory leader, the SNP's status all things which could affect public perception of the current govt. and a potential Labour govt. by 2020. I think some will be drawn to Corbyn's 'no bullshit' persona, some by popular policies like renationalisation of the railways.

Some concerns: Foreign policy won't be popular so that perhaps needs to be down played, and the National Investment Bank idea will need some work to convince people, even if I think QE would be less dangerous than PFIs a la the last Labour govt.

I'm not sure I buy the 'disaster' line, because even Ed 'disaster' Miliband polled up to 10 points ahead of the Tories from 2012 until the bacon sandwich farce. Corbyn is certainly a stronger and more media savvy leader.

This is assuming he even bloody wins, wouldn't be surprised if Cooper miraculously won.

Oddly enough I've come out of this agreeing with more of what Cooper says, but liking Kendall a bit more disregarding her political views. At least the latter is honest and 'knows when she's beaten' if yesterday's article is anything to go by. She's the only one who I think will 100% respect the decision and public view if Corbyn wins. The others? I'm not so sure they will...

Tbf to Kendall one thing she said which made a lot of sense was that we should move towards a Finnish-style education system.

Cooper says very little with which I can agree.

5 years of consistent personal attacks on him by the mainstream & right wing media (even Panorama was a hatchet job ffs) will likely take their toll on how he's perceived though.

Certainly was re: Panorama! I don't know, I think we're entering an age where people are fed up with the media BS. Look at Farage for example, because he's a strong character any media criticism actually increases his popularity. Frustrating, but true.

I think you're right, it could have an impact and he'll have to be strong. But equally, if some of those factors I mentioned earlier come into play it could actually work for Corbyn. Media slurs + a failing economy for example could increase his popularity massively.

I honestly think the biggest threat he has right now is the people in his own party.

If those 4 are the best that Labour could scrape together then they'll be fucked for years to come, i couldn't vote for any of them they are that bad.

Kendall refuses to be part of a Corbyn shadow cabinet. That's not 100% respect!

Hmm I guess you've got a point, but...

I think that can be interpreted in different ways. Is she saying that out of pettiness? Or ideological differences? I read the article she wrote in yesterday and it seemed that she felt it wouldn't be right for her to serve in a shadow cabinet which clearly is moving in a different direction. She won't serve under his leadership, but I don't think she'll throw toys out of the pram about it either.

I hope not. There are still, of course, plans to oust him as soon as.

Your quote "I honestly think the biggest threat he has right now is the people in his own party" is spot on to me. They're struggling with esteem. There are millions Corbyn is still able to enthuse.

Corbyn has it according to BBC 'sources' in the first round.

Do Watson & Corbyn politics go together?

Couldn't have hoped for a better partnership if you're a genuine labour supporter.

It's a shame the media dictate the election. Unless Labour can galvanise people without the help of the mainstream they aren't going to win. Tories got voted into a majority without a manifesto, people are thick as fuck.

"Britain has never been a Conservative country", says the newly-elected Deputy Leader of a party that has spent approximately three quarters of its history in opposition. Fabulous.

Poor old Liz. A pitiful total, really.

The left is back. Let's see what they can do.

Maybe. But I wouldn't want a labour party in power if it meant they weren't true to what they should be.

Corbyn will do as he says and he'll go after Cameron & Osbourne like a dog. Can't ask for more than that.
