From Errol Morris, a documentary that follows the killing of a police officer, the man who was convicted of his murder and the man who actually committed the murder. At the time of the film, Randall Adams was on death row for a crime he did not commit, with the killer giving the main testimony. It was fascinating to see how easily a large group of people subscribed to a false set of events. The film is basically a collection of interviews with the main players in the investigation including the killer and Randall Adams, and was later considered vital in overturning Randall Adam's conviction.

Interesting watch, 8.5/10.

Clear And Present Danger [1994]

Not seen this in a while, nevertheless its very good indeed telling the story of murky US Intelligence dealings with Columbian cartel members and how after trying to take the cartel out, a deal is done which then endangers the safety of US special ops soldiers already there. Harrison Ford is once again Jack Ryan trying to sort it all out and he is adequate enough in character, but the way the story unfolds and the action is shot, is worth a watch.

Unbroken (2014)
Story of Olympian and WWII veteran Louie Zamperini who's plane crashed in the Pacific ocean during the war and after spending 47 days adrift was picked up by the Japanese and spent the rest of the war as a PoW. It's by no means a classic but as far as I'm concerned any films covering this aspect of the war are welcome. Jack O'Connell puts in a commendable performance as Zamperini too, though not the powerhouse breakthrough I was led to expect. 8/10

Dystopian sci-fi set in an Orwellian vision of England where everybody in the world has become infertile. Another good'un, what the fuck happened to Clive Owen? He's good in this.

Life Itself

Documentary on the life and work of Roger Ebert. Really interesting, 2 hours flew by. Some really good commentators involved too (Herzog, Scorcese, Morris and Ebert himself, mostly from his autobiography).

Finally got round to watching Interstellar, and what a fucking fantabulous film. I'll confess I'm a bit in love with Nolan (and a lot of the cast), so I went into it really wanting to enjoy it. I've seen that it's got mixed reviews, but personally I thought it was great. I think a lot of the criticism comes from the actual scientific theory but personally (aside from the fact that I know shit all about the theory behind the film) I was willing to suspend disbelief and just accept that the things that were happening were feasible in the film world.

The visuals in the scenes where they enter the wormhole and when Cooper enters the Tesseract (centre of the blackhole) were brilliant, I guess as you'd expect in a Nolan film.

I've seen some confusion online about why Dr. Mann (Matt Damon) would want to kill Cooper and Romilly and some people saying that it makes no sense. Well, it makes perfect sense... The idea seems to have come up that Mann wanted to travel back to earth, but that wasn't the case, and he said as much. He wanted to fly on to the 3rd planet that was potentially hospitable and wanted to kill Cooper because Coop himself wanted to fly back home after finding out plan A was hopeless - safe to say he would've struggled to make it to the 3rd planet if Matthew Mcconaughey had buggered off in the spaceship. Then I suppose he had to kill and/or abandon the rest because if they escaped with him everyone would find out that Mann was a fraud and not one of the bravest men in history as people back home believed.

I guess you could criticise the ending as, despite the film being nearly 3 hours long, it seemed rushed. You don't see what happens to earth (presumably everyone dies as it becomes inhospitable) nor any of the move to the shuttle that Cooper wakes up on. It also seemed like a bit of a cop out that Mcconaughey (what a pain in the arse to spell) just passed out and woke up safe and sound - I think that could have been explored a bit more too.

Anyway, despite all that I'd put it up there with my favourite Nolan films and give it a solid 9/10.

Does anyone have any criticisms? I'd be interested to find out what people didn't like about it.

Nolan's got equal amount of haters as his fans. This is probably because of the complicated plots in his films. I really must check the plot on IMDb or somewhere and watch it all over again to get a proper understanding of his films.

You'll find many saying things like Interstellar is overrated and all.

I liked his all films I ve seen. Such a legend!

I listened to a review of Interstellar yesterday and some of their criticisms of Nolan were that the dialogue in his films wasn't ever very good and that they were never particularly emotional... I think the phrase was that his endings were more theory than emotion or something like that. Seems a pretty odd criticism to me, I love the way many of his films require a lot of thinking and are essentially puzzles that the viewer has to decipher or come up with their own interpretation of. I also disagree that his films lack emotion, there were points in Interstellar when I was close to tears. I've seen all of his films since Memento and I've enjoyed them all - although I can't remember anything about Insomnia in fairness so it could have been turd (although I doubt it ).

The whole movie is set on a computer screen, which is quite unique, and overall it was a decent watch.
