I watched that recently and wasn't that impressed. In the first hour fuck all happened but the 2nd hour was better,i know it has to build up how they prepared to kill the bastard but felt it could have been a bit more interesting but being based on a true story i suppose there's only so much you can do with the film.

Agree to an extent. Until the incident in the road it is a very slow burner. After that I found it quite gripping.

The Asphalt Jungle (1950)

A criminal mastermind sets up the heist of the century which goes off almost without a hitch. The problems begin when the group meet back up to plan what to do with the loot.

Strong recommendation Benito, this was very good.

Decent enough film starring Dennis Quaidand Danny Glover about an FBI agent chasing a serial killer who had also kidnapped his little, slightly let down by the ending i thought. 6.8/10.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Midnight run is a classic.

Despicable Me 3

Alright. A few laughs. A bit darker than the others towards the end but good to see with the nipper.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I watched Anthropoid, which is a factually accurate depiction of the assassination attempt on Heydrich "The Butcher of Prague" in Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia. It was a bit of WW2 history I wasn't at all familiar with and an interesting story too. Film-wise it was slightly reminiscent of The Pianist; it avoided a lot of the typical action/thriller tropes and usual beats.

think the earlier film done on it called operation daybreak is much better, has cracking fight scenes at the end with a stunning soundtrack for the finale.

Visited the crypt where the final battle genuinly happened in prague just last year it is honestly well worth a visit if you go to prague, been pretty much left as it was on the day of the battle , bullet holes, shrapnel and all still about and puts that whole ending into perspective.

As a story it probably deserves a bit more of a tale because it was a major moment in history during WW2.

Sunset Boulevard (1950)

A failing screenwriter crosses paths with an ageing silent film icon in a tale of desperation and delusion.

Great film, Gloria Swanson was fantastic as the over-the-hill film star and was about as OTT and barmy as the role required her to be.

Gilda (1946)

A small-time gambler/card shark finds work in an Argentinian casino. His new boss goes away for a few days and returns married...to the card shark's ex-wife.

I think the film was good but I can't be sure, I was too busy ogling Rita Hayworth.

Hell yes one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. Watched a documentary about her the other week and you wouldn't believe she was a latino. The studio bosses put her under the knife to make her a redhead and to change her hairline so she looked caucasian, but she was lovely either way. Her and Grace Kelly about then were (and still are when you look at the films) the most stunning beauties of their day. That scene in Gilda where she slowly takes off her gloves is far sexier than Sharon Stone crossing her legs in Basic Instinct 40 years later.

Good grief!

That glove scene was positively pornographic! Great, wasn't it?

Usual plot in a disaster film with a divorced couple getting back together after surviving what mother nature throws at them. :fart: Dwayne Johnson was in it so i should have known better than to bother with this crap. 3/10.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

The recently dead are suddenly coming back to life and feasting on the flesh of the living. A group of survivors find themselves working together in an abandoned house in order to stay alive.

Classic. I decided to give a few zombie films a watch and kicked things off with this one even though I've seen it a couple of times before.

A film based on a true story about a British family who survived the tsunami in Thailand in 2004 starringNaomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. Much better than i expected as i can't stand Mcgregor but Watts was brilliant as were the actors who played their kids. 7/10.

Who in the fuckest of fucks doesn't like Dwayne Johnson? Know your role jabroni.

Though if you wanna be genuinely surprised by one of his movies, check out Pain and Gain. Directed by Michael Bay and it's actually pretty good, which isn't something I'd expect to say...

I look forward to it, steven. I can't stand this "modern" zombie (...am I allowed to say "crap" here ? ) but maybe the classic b/w ones will get me hooked? I don't know but anyway I'll read your expertise about it with interest, promised!

edit: Just informed me about "Night of the living dead" . It's one of 6 zombie movies of George Romero (interesting). This one is from 1968 but in Germany it wasn't shown before 1971 (typical ;) ) under the title "Die Nacht der lebenden Toten" (1:1 Translation (not so typical)

Tommy Lee Jones plays MacAther overseeing the surrender of Japan at the end of WWII. Started off well but became more of a soap opera. 5.8/10.

Speaking of Zombie films. 'The Girl With All the Gifts'.

Interesting take on the zombie genre with a depressing ending. Seemed a bit confused about when it was set though, with people picking around long abandoned cars in cityscapes that are being reclaimed by nature, to scavenge still-edible food from shops.
