A Walk Among The Tombstones- A typical average Liam Neeson action film. Started off promisingly but got predictable by the end- 6/10.

Locke- I'm a massive fan of Tom Hardy. Although, this is by no means his best film it was still worth the watch- 7/10

Aye it's a pretty good film. Very claustrophobic with it being set in his car as the story gets more intense.

I just watched The Dark Tower.

Nooooo... naaaaah.... nooooope. That's not how you do it.

To be clear before I get started, I fucking love the books so yes, I'm gonna be that asshole who's complaining that it's not as good as the books. Also, the below will possibly contain spoilers for the movie (which honestly, doesn't matter because it ain't worth seeing anyway) and the books (which does matter... if you haven't read them, I'd advise doing so) so watch your ass.

But even with that being said, I'm not entirely sure who this film was for. It sure as hell wasn't for the book nerds like me because it was barely even an adaptation, but it clearly couldn't have been for newbies either because it was waaaay to complicated for the first film in what you'd assume was intended to be a series.

First, Elba did a fine job with what he was given, but damn, that wasn't Roland. Roland, particularly this early on, is pretty much an asshole. Blunt, short tempered, too the point and focused on his goal to an absolute fault. This is a dickhead who wiped out an entire village of innocent people just because they'd been mind fucked by Walter... here, he was hesitant to pull off a shoulder shot on one gun shop clerk who had the same treatment. And he was waaaay to warm toward Jake waaaay too fast. This Roland wouldn't have let Jake fall. You know, if that was even a FUCKING OPTION IN THIS MOVIE WHICH IT WASN'T BECAUSE WHY THE FUCK NOT? And why was Jake the main character, and not Roland? Another bad decision. Jakes fine, but Roland should be the focus.

Going more into the film itself, I love how slowly the books built into everything. Book one did a brilliant job of introducing Roland and Mid-World, then showing how terrifying The Man in Black could be, then bringing in Jake and having oh so subtle hints that, oh yes, this book is set in a fantasy world... but the real world is out there somewhere, somehow, and linked to this. This book just fucking STARTED in the real world. There's that whole thing done already. And it was like 2 or 3 books before we even knew why Roland was doing what he was doing before, this film had the entire deal with the kids being used to bring down the tower from day 1. If they did a Wolves of Calla film, there's that whole mystery shut down a couple films early. It felt like it just wanted to rush into all of the main plot beats as fast as it could which surely just pisses off the fans, confused the heck out of new comers, completely ruins the overall mysteries behind the story and... well, they do all of this in a movie that lasts like 90 minutes! 7 books worth of plot shat out in fuck all time.

So yeah, a lot of bad decisions all around. I went into it hoping that it wouldn't be so bad that it looked unlikely to get a sequel... but now, I honestly do hope it doesn't get one. Give it time to die down, even if it takes another 35 years or so... and then do it again, only this time they need to have the balls to take their time with the story and tell it the way it deserves to be told.

It's probably saying a lot that I've given this a bad review, as I don't tend to do that often on here (unless you're talking the Fast and Furious movies, because fuck those films) but I can't recommend it. If you've read the books you probably won't be able to stop yourself from watching it anyway despite seeing bad stuff like this written, and I don't expect you to resist it, but I'm sure you'll agree with me before the film is over.

Forgotten the face of its father/10.

The Raid Redemption - Indonesian guns and fighting film directed by a Welsh guy. Would be interested to know how quickly they made the last Judge Dredd film, because this came out the year before that and is very similar. Admittedly, I don't know of Dredd is an old 2000AD storyline. The Raid Redemption is a very decent shout if you want an all out action/martial arts film. The fight sequences weren't amazing but the building the whole film is set in is like a something that would have been part of the Kowloon Walled City. Grim, dank and full of people looking for any excuse to slice you up.

Sole Survivor (1983)

An unremarkable zombie film about a plane crash survivor and a washed-up film star who has premonitions. Bad script and dodgy acting.

Based on a true story about US police going after drug dealers who bring their drugs in from the far east during The Vietnam War. I found this dull in places and the only thing that kept me watching was the acting performance of Denzel Washington.6/10.

Thought it was loads of fun, gory, funny and full of pretty people. Plenty of rewatch value. 7/10.

Loved this film, the sequel is equally as good.

My Little Pony The Movie.

My six year old loved it and there was a nice Pulp Fiction reference. What more do you need?

To be fair, I've only seen the first 3 and so perhaps it's unfair to judge it just on them because I know the series is supposed to get better. But those first 3 movies are trash.

TRASH.

So what you're telling us is that you haven't seen the one with the kino ending that they made after Paul Walker died...

It got me right in the feels, which takes some doing let me tell you.

This movie lurks for nearly 2 years on my hard-drive. Still haven't watched it.

Recently I watched an old Alex Cross Movie with Morgan Freeman and Monica Potter. It is called "Along came a spider" (in German: Im Netz der Spinne).
Damn it, never expected the harmless Monica Potter to be the bad "guy"

Smashed- 7/10. A film about an alcoholic primary school teacher who is married to Aaron Paul(Jesse from Breaking Bad). A nice understated drama.

Bladerunner 2049

Went to see it last night and enjoyed it. Plenty of big ideas once more about what is or isn't alive, what's real and what's not, and it is a worthy follow-up to the classic original. I'm not sure its the masterpiece critics are making out, but they did a good job when they could've so easily screwed it up.

Addition.

Tweeted a picture of my daughter in the cinema watching the film to the lead voice actress. And she replied to say how cute she looked.

That’s the star of a film my little girl has been excited about for a year.

Twitter can be awesome sometimes.

I have a mantra that seems to work. Any film rated below 6.5 on IMDB will not be watched however alluring it is. Try it people

Watched Saving Private Ryan for the first time yesterday. Enjoyed that. I like Tom Hanks.

Still haven’t watched Trainspotting either
