But it does. Teams go on winning runs and losing runs. Lose a bit of confidence and down you go. Get a run of positive results and away you go. It’s not all down to ability. Injuries and suspensions have a greater impact in the lower leagues because any replacement is likely to be dog shit. It’s pretty basic stuff that happens every single season.

And losing and winning runs come to an end. Players get injured. So it's even more daft to assume the current form that a team is on over the last 5, will continue it over the next 10.

Well, you’re assuming Exeter will stay in the POs when there’s a whole host of teams that could easily overhaul you. Again, injuries and suspensions could scupper you, too.

I think you’re deluded to think you are home and hosed.

I disagree with that to a point Dev Lad. Momentum and confidence is a major factor hence why teams make late surges upwards and some plummet the other way.

A huge part of the game is down to psychology therefore it's reasonable to suggest previous form does play a part.

I'm not assuming it - I said I think one of the teams will drop out if you actually go back and search what I said a few pages back. If I had to predict the table now, I do think Exeter will make the PO's though although this is no guarantee, but probably because bias. We've played most of the top teams twice now (Bury, MK, Lincoln, Tranmere, Carlisle(?) so have a relatively easy run in compared to others around us as well.

I just think it's hilarious that you think Swindon will make the PO's, they're just not good enough.

I don't think momentum and confidence has anywhere near as much bearing as people suggest. Every 90 minutes is different and I don't think the previous 90 minutes effects it at all. Teams go on runs of wins and losses. That's expected in anything, even if by luck - If you do a RNG test on 24 teams and have them against each other, you will have certain numbers that consistently come out winners 5 times in a row, and others that will lose 5 times in a row. The next 5 tests could show completely different results (And will).

If we can get 7 points from our next 3 games I’ll be over the moon. Vale and Crawley away then Lincoln at home.

Of course, but AdamStag said ‘of late’ the picture you’ve posted just backs up the point I’m making.

My point was Lincoln mansfield and MK were expected to be up there, with bury still on decent odds just a little behind, especially with budget

Added to that I guess incorrectly is when I saw us play Lincoln and MK I saw a top performance, whereas bury were somewhat adrift performance wise against us both games.

But yeah, it’s over a course of a season as GTFC fish said, MK could argue they’d be top if they didn’t have their little blip etc, we could all still have one, and that will determine who misses out

We would be storming the league if we hadn’t have decided to be useless throughout December and January. As of now though I can’t see anything other than a cup final type game on the last game of the season at home to Mansfield for the last promotion spot.

Bury will win the league, Lincoln will finish second, then it’s whoever wins on the final game in mk1 that will go up in 3rd. Ideally us as we’ve never even made it to a play off final and I don’t fancy our chances again.

We’d have won the league at a canter if we had kept Andy Cook and Ollie Norburn.

We’d also be in the prem instead of Everton if we hadn’t been reffed out of the championship playoffs as the investors would have come to us rather than them.

Any other what ifs?

Generally teams go on runs of wins or defeats due to the standard of opposition they play.

Predicting the final table means looking at each teams up and coming opponents, rather than results over last 5 or 10 games

Again, that’s not true of every club.

We’re on our best run of the season which includes wins over FGR, MK Dons and Colchester. It’s winning games against those around or, preferably above you that gets you up the table.

Aye. Our record against the top 7 is 3-5-1 which can make all the difference.

2 points dropped by bury last night, no other way of putting it other than it being a disappointing result.

Clearly the better team in the first 25 mins but failed to put it to bed. Only 1 team wanted to win and 1 tried to kick us off the pitch but hay ho

Maybe, but we’ve played a lots of games recently and with an old aged team it’s bound to catch up eventually. We could have done with a week off this week and played midweek next week like everyone else.

We’ve just got to keep picking up points, if we still have a chance of the title with 2-3 games to go then so be it.

Well all drop points, watch us be here next week when we’ve fucked up away to Crawley

Five points clear. Made hard work of that but it's the result that counts.

We've now entered the robotic, promotion mode we adopted in our title-winning season in the Conference. Unimpressive but getting the job done.

Been largely crap in recent weeks but we've not been beaten since Boxing Day.

Tranmeres win also makes them serious playoff challengers.

Apart from the top 4 no-one is making a proper effort to go for it apart from them

Exeter are 8 points ahead of us though.
