After dominating at Shrewsbury at the weekend, and only coming home with one point due to an absolute howler from Ben Williams, that loss last night throws us back into the mix. In all honesty, I always felt we'd be chucked back in. I expected Barnsley to win last night, and I honestly hope they sneak a play-off spot - they deserve it.

Games are coming thick and fast, and there is another massive game at Valley Parade at the weekend. We host Walsall - where three points is an absolute must; just like it is for the Saddlers. A point wouldn't be the end of the world, but I can see this play-off challenge going right to the last game against Chesterfield at VP.

Our home form is pretty good, and with two home games to come, we should make the play-offs. I think 4 points should be enough - possibly three depending on what Barnsley do at the weekend.

We don't want to find ourselves in the position where we're having to travel all the way to Southend to get at least something. Dire record darn their.

Blown our chance, YET AGAIN.

Play-offs for us now, providing we can get another win under our belts.

I have to be honest when I say, how this season has panned out, how many chances we have missed, that anything less than the top 2 feels like a bit of a kick in the bollocks to be honest.

Yeah, blown it now. I mean, if only you could be in a position where winning your game in hand puts you in the automatic spots.

Blown it, in terms of we are away at Bradford Saturday, whilst Burton are away at Colchester.

Come 5pm if Burton win (which you would say they have a very good chance at doing) and we lose to Bradford, which you would also say there is a good chance of, we are 6 points behind, potentially 7 depending on goal difference and let's face it..Bradford don't concede many, Colchester do.

We've missed too many chances, we would need a 100 game season to take advantage.

You're in much better form than Burton (12pts from your last 6 games, whereas Burton have only picked up 6pts during that time), and you have both Shrewsbury & Fleetwood at home to play, which, when you look at their form, aren't looking like soaring away from the relegation zone either.

Honestly, you're within touching distance, it's literally in your own hands, just wind in the constant pessimism. I understand how football can be cruel and all that, but for crying out loud Walsall could be 16pts clear with 5 games to play and you'd probably be still think you'd lose all 5, they'd win all 5, and that the Football League will dock you points because you wear a shade of red that isn't listed in their approved list of Pantone colours.

To be fair to Saddler, supporting Walsall for that long must just give you a massive sense of negativity.

I think we're back on it. Last night was the Burton of old, if they can play half as well as that we should get a result at Colchester. We had Wigan on the ropes for the whole second half (I thought Wigan were class as well in the first 30 minutes)
. It's ours to throw away IMO.

Good point, well made.

Last night felt very deflating though and the amount of chances we have missed now makes me very angry. Surely, everyone can see how bipolar we are at times, it makes supporting us up and down etc. Re Burton - yeah, they've been in poor form, yet we still haven't taken advantage? Sure we closed the gap, but we lost 2 away games before the last week where we could have taken points, then last night, so on etc. If we win at Bradford on Saturday, then I shall be very hopeful and optimistic. The issue is, games are running out and we haven't taken our chances. I'd rather have just been 5th and enjoyed making the play-offs than the annoyance of Burton being shit and us not catching them. It's frustrating. Let's face it, it'll be another decade until we are good again anyway! That's how it's going in our recent history!

Plus, Burton win at Colchester Saturday looks a decent shout, us to draw or lose at Bradford similar. That happens and it's 5/6 points with 3 to play. We won't claw that back and again..it'l be about missed chances.

I can see you getting 6pts from the Shrewsbury/Fleetwood midweek games, so to me it's how you get on at Port Vale. I still think Burton have 1 more defeat in them this season.

Hope so. I'd love for you to be right. Not sure I could handle the nerves of a last day battle at Port Vale. Got my tickets already though.

My attitude is though...expect to lose or be dissapointed as per say normal Walsall - then you are happy if something positive happens. Rather that than give it the big one on how I expect us to win, feel upbeat about things and then walk away dissapointed.

Congratulations to Burton and Wigan, I mean no disrespect when I say 3rd placed sides and down have gifted them the auto's in recent weeks by persistently failing to close the gap.
For us, what a huge game on Saturday at home to Walsall, with our finishing which I honestly can't get across enough is just so bad I fear we won't score enough either on Saturday or between the end of the season

To put into context, in the last four games we've had 58 shots on goal. We've scored 3 goals in those games. It's taking us roughly 20 shots to score. Blatantly not good enough.

Against Shrewsbury we had 17 corners. Didn't look like scoring once.

I believe fully in our lads to get us over the line and above Burton. We have the work ethic, the ability and the characters to make it happen. We just need to make it happen. So lets fucking do it!

Our forums and facebook groups are amusing at the moment the amount of times they declare the play-offs out of reach then one win later we're still in with a shout. Even yesterday as soon as Shrewsbury equalised someone was posting how the play-offs are over for good. Muppets.

They're idiots but at the same time just clutching at that little bit of hope. Saddlers team have a game in hand to go 2nd ffs and listen to him. In my eyes if we win our 3 games we still need gills to only get 4 points and barnsley to drop points in another game after Saturday and also rochdale not to better our results gd wise so basically we need a fucking miracle which won't happen. And all to this to get into something we've never ever achieved to win in 8 attempts. We're fucked

I know this season is completely different and I don't know exactly how bad Colchester are this year, but they have a history of beating second so 3rd can pip them to automatics, don't rule them out yet it could still happen.
Not that I want it to though, if it was my ideal world you'd both stay down so we could play you next year :bg:

Well, if they can't put our bunch of n'er do wells to the sword they don't deserve to get 2nd.

Saying that, we weren't too bad last night.

On a side note why is Phil Parkinson such a sore loser, he never recognises or give any credit to the opposition, and that's every time he loses at any club in this league.
Last night was yet another "travesty" , but really all told apart from the last ten minutes they were very ordinary.
He's becoming very dislikeable.

In my opinion we have blown it, down to performances like at your place a few weeks back when we had chance to close down Burton.

Again last night, a win makes it a real chance. Now as it is, we have to hope Colchester do us a random favour and we manage to get something at Bradford, if they happen - I'll be happy. Unfortunately, this is an internet forum, I'm allowed to give my opinion no matter how differently it may vary to someone else's.

We have to win at Colchester and hope for a favour elsewhere.
But to be good enough to go up automatic you should not have to rely of "favours"
3 games to go - there is a lot to play for at least 12 teams which is good

Of course there's nothing wrong with your opinion I just find you to be so so negative your the same in the cricket thread. Show a bit of positivity for once mate

No it isn't, last night two equally matched sides, both equally ordinary, yet the famous it was a travesty comment.
Bloke needs some mental help in my view as no way were Bradford worthy of winning that match last night.
Bradford need serious financial investment if they go up on last nights showing, that even Parkinson couldn't deny.

so i guess going 20 unbeaten as nothing to do with it....theres not alot teams can do below when you go on a run like that.
