I suppose whoever is the first team for it to be mathematically impossible to either be relegated or reach the play-offs. We're in pole position!

I think it might go to Crawley or maybe even Notts County (or one of that group). You might be in contention for the play offs for too long to win this prestigious award.

Good point, Crawley must only need a couple of extra points to be safe from relegation.

Well (though we have been for a while) that's certainly us in here again.

Bad luck, you all get to visit Mansfield again next season!

We called a meeting at 6pm tonight and all unanimously agreed that you can now join this thread due to you reaching the dizzy heights of 17th.

However you're on the edge of a cliff here. You're only 3 points above 4th bottom so if your form dips again and you drop, you'll be out on your ear.

But welcome aboard.

I am sure most teams are truly disappointed to be involved in this thread, but after the 2 seasons we have had, I am absolutely thrilled to be here. I'm confident we won't drop back into the relegation thread, so I look forward to remaining here for the remainder of the season.

In fact, 9 wins from our remaining 9 (which I fully expect) would leave us on 69 points.. bring on the promotion thread.

1 down, 8 to go. Neither Orient or Wycombe (our play-off rivals) winning on Saturday too.

On a serious note, after a late push into the midtable thread, a win tonight and defeat for D&R would confirm we are safe from relegation, so we could be the first team officially cemented in the midtable thread.

Unfortunately all of the shower stumbling haplessly towards 7th place seem to be incapable of putting a run together, and hence putting the playoffs out of reach of you lowly mid-table peasants.

Meaning that I doubt the official first-past-the-post winner of glorious mid-nothingness can be confirmed for a couple of games yet.

Whoever wins should have all their fans saunter meekly over the barriers at full-time and sit down apathetically on the pitch to "celebrate" with a nice cup of tea. Pitch invasion - mid-table stylee.

Mathematically we could be having a nice cup of tetley's finest on Saturday come 5 o'clock. This is, providing you win on Saturday, Pools lose tonight and Saturday (which obviously ain't happnin), and D&R also lose tonight and Saturday.

On the other hand, 3 wins in 8 days for Pools, coupled with defeats for Wycombe and Orient (and Wimbledon) on Saturday would put us just 7 points off the playoffs with 5 games to go.

Bring on the promotion thread.

In other words, no chance.

I would point out that their was no seriousness in my post at all, but you already knew that. However, bet365 suggests their is a 400/1 chance of us being a simple away win to Notts County away from the above coming true. So unfortunately for you, as Leicester were 5000/1 to win the prem, the 400/1 looks nailed on, no?

Maybe Carlisle would be in the play offs if they had a goal scorer as prolific as Fat Billy.

Unrelated, hows King Jabo doing nowadays? 1 goal in 2016 I hear..

I figured, though I do hope you've not wasted too much on that bet. I am surprised the odds are so long, hadn't Hartlepool won the league 3 games into the season?

They count, but strikers shouldn't be judged on penalties.

For example our left back has scored more penalties this season than Charlie Wyke, but it doesn't mean he's a better striker than him.

But , you can make statistics fit any argument you like , and as you're a point off the play offs , give us Billy has scored more goals ....any crumb in an empty biscuit barrel !

I was about to resign from this thread (I reckon if we win all our games we'll get in the play-offs :D ), when I realised that the champions should have already begun their lap of honour.

I believe that Crawley have just pipped Notts County to take the honours.

Edit: Before all you Poolies chip in, you can still catch Wimbledon.

Not yet for Crawley They can get to 62 points the same as Wombles, Wycombe, Exeter so mathematically they can still make play offs.

Techinically because Wimbledon have to face Leyton Orient one of those teams will have to reach 63 points

As such Crawley are the team who have nothing to play for first

Technically, it's not mathematically confirmed that we're in this division next season even though it would take a miracle of bible proportions for us not to be.

Have to object in principle. :told:

I never thought that we'd be last out of this thread by right but it was written in the runes long ago that Mansfield would have the chance to deny us a play off place in 2 weeks time :hypo:, especially after this pathetically pesimistic contribution:

It would be nice if 7 May is a play-off for the last play-off spot but can't see it.

The best I can hope for is an opportunity to pull you back to 8th and let my other CUFC in.
