Out of curiosity, why was the Gateshead/Wrexham replay not played last night? Would the pitch have been ok then?

Harriers, (athletic club), had the stadium last night. Pitch was ok until heavy rain overnight and this morning with heavy snow forecast for this evening and night. Inspection timed to give as much advance notice as possible.

Thanks for that.

That makes sense. One of the many drawbacks of sharing a stadium I guess.

I doubt anyone even cares. I'd be up for flipping a coin to see who goes through.

Slight dusting of snow overnight but nothing major. Club have tweeted they anticipate no problems with the pitch.

Come on you Reds!

No surprise, the temperatures aren't shifting much above 1 or 2 degrees at the minute, the ground's rock solid

Failed the pitch inspection for tomorrow so we now try again on Saturday. Aldershot game now postponed and I believe they'll travel to Alty instead.

Aldershot have announced that we will assess our pitch on Thursday, if it looks unplayable then we will head down to Aldershot away on Saturday.

So appears they didn't fancy their back up plan being Alty away.

I expect you aren't confident that your pitch will be playable and are keeping us as a backup option personally. Either way it is starting to turn into a farce as now we wont know until 48 hours before the game who we are playing and have no control over what is happening.

My personal opinion is Halifax have now failed to get this game on THREE times, therefore their trophy game should go ahead and we should go to Altrincham (weather permitting). If they cant get it on again thats their problem.

Oh dear, this has turned into a farce.

We say no decision will be made until Thursday yet the Conference insist we are going to Altrincham regardless!

If it helps, I don't imagine that the chances of Altrincham getting their pitch unfrozen by Saturday are high.

This is what I was thinking. What will really pisses me off is as the Conference have said we are going to Alty regardless, if Halifax call their game off Thursday and ours goes on Friday, we have yet another week off when we could have had a backup plan. They did it a couple of weeks ago with Halifax and Telford, why not again?

Where our club got information about the Halifax "inspection" im not quite sure, as they were the only party who seemed to know anything about it. At least the confusion has been cleared up now.

As for Altrincham Saturday, if the BBC forecast is correct I would expect the game to go ahead with the only issue potentially being a waterlogged pitch when the snow melts

Other than the pitch being frozen solid, and given the temperatures forecast and the windchill, I certainly wouldn't expect it to thaw in time.

Hang on. Is what you are all saying is that semi pro/amateur clubs trying to play 46 league games and two cup competitions in 9 months through winter on predominantly under invested grass pitches (some of which are used by other teams/sides) is causing some problems???
Well knock me down with a feather.......i am stunned at that revelation.

An easy mistake to make, these Tin Potters all look the same. No amount of money can change that. :£

Oi, less of that. At least we can keep our home games on. :)

Buzzing for a trip to North Ferriby like you wouldn't believe. It's a massive shit hole but we haven't had a Northern trip in nearly two years.

Come on you Reds!

Altrinchams pitch isnt "frozen solid" the snow cleared on Sunday, Weve had one game in five years frozen off, that being last Saturday. The pitch is relayed every May, and is due to be ripped up May 11th this year as its annual renovations, the forecast is favourable, the pitch pristine at present so apart from a freak weather event Alty v Aldershot will go ahead on Saturday, we could play it this afternoon
