Feel absolutely gutted, the early goal took the wind out of us completely and by the time we got started, the game was gone. The big disappointment was our lack of efforts on goal, but Tranmere were solid and we got our tactics wrong - long balls up to our shortest player against McNulty.
Fair play to Tranmere and their fans who were great. Safe journey back, see you Saturday.

It's not over. The last thing we need is complacency creeping in. Excellent start but it's just half time really.

As for Cowley, he soon changed his tune when Mellon was stood next to him didn't he? It was pretty funny really.
Thought that bit where Mellon said he'd be in magaluf already if he'd won the league was a bit of a sly dig.

Fair play mate, must hurt coming on here after that. For what it's worth, I thought your fans were great. It felt like a proper game. Come up on Saturday, there are some really nice beers in the fan zone.

Nah, it is done and dusted. I am as pessimistic as anyone about Rovers in big matches, but I don't think Aldershot will win by three or four at Prenton Park. Under Brabin a few months ago, yes, but we are playing too well at the moment and Mellon won't allow any complacency.

You have to give MM credit for trying a completely new system which worked to a tee. We swamped the midfield to stop Aldershot getting their passing triangles going and they had no other way of hurting us. I think the gulf in experience between the two sides told as well, as Shots were a bit like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

I have a lot of sympathy for the Shots fans, as I have seen us choke in play-off games on a number of occasions. Hopefully they enjoy the visit to Prenton Park nonetheless.

Feel a bit sorry for shots, not only did mellon out think waddock last night he has potentially ruined their promotion push for next season.

Every team that visits the rec ( not the abc stadium or whatever its called) will adopt tranmeres tactics from last night smothering the midfield and stopping those excellent little triangles the shots adopted against us twice last season. Waddock needs a plan b swiftly otherwise next season could be a battle for the lower play off places and nothing else.

As for us, who knows, im still nervous about saturday, im actually glad im working, if we do scrape through the daggers pissed on us twice last season and fgr will love the wide open acres of wembley to knock it about in so i still dont think we will go up.

I wonder if gary brabin watched last night and what he must have thought about having different tactics for different opponents perhaps hes learnt something about management too..... we have come a long way from where we were on that terrible day at ganders green lane last october.

Final observation i would like to hear what all the mcnulty haters on here think after his performance last night, i thought he was a cut above. He dominated the shots forwards demonstrated his telepathic anticipation of where the ball is gonna be played and his distribution was immense.

All that and not a mention of the result in that rag the liverpool echo on twitter last night

Opposite for me, always admired him. remember at yours recently when he was up against Woolery's fresh sub pace late on even if he was out run he was rarely out thought and could make a run to close down the space.

Enough of last night over to the big boys now.

Which Daggers side will turn up? Will anyone actually turn up to watch!

I was up all night finishing a freelance job, just arrived for the day shift and then set off straight from work so I hope the seats in your stand aren't comfy or I'll sleep through it.

I wouldn't single out McNulty, Wallace had an excellent game last night too, while confidence players like Ridehalgh and Stockton have blossomed under Mickey.

Behave.

Aren't you the same person who was pretty confident you'd go on to win the league despite it being obvious it was going to be a tough ask? Yet here you are, 3-0 up after the away first leg and it's not over.

I only saw bits and pieces of the game but Tranmere looked very comfortable.

This PO campaign has probably come a year too early for Aldershot, who seem a pretty young side and were pretty naïve with the first and third goals. First one needs whacking out of play or up the line and to get caught 2 on 2 at the back like that for the third was pretty criminal.

I think we're all stil in shock after last night. Tranmere don't do making things easy for themselves!

Can't fucking wait, after weeks of knowing we were in the play offs it's finally time to get down to business. Leaving work in Reading about half 4 hopefully, should just about be alright unless the magic roudabout has decided to be an absolute bitch.

No idea what sort of game it'll be, or what team/formation we'll go with. Seems Ethan Pinnock is fit again which could be a major boost.

Hoping for a Bradford, Millwall, Daggers three way winning legs tonight. After wanting Aldershot last night and how that turned out, I am not confident.

It's literally the same message: nothing's over until it's over. Shoe's just on the other foot.
Aldershot have scored 3 against us once this season and I certainly won't be disrespecting them by looking past them until it's over.

We can't all win things halfway through you know...

Good win for Tranmere last night, assuming you're in the final it'll be good to have you back up.

Forest Green or Dagenham (though they did knock around about in the league for a while) just doesn't seem or sound right.

5,500 sold before last nights game plus whatever shots bring.

Would be baffled if we didn't break the 11k record, but then I am an optimist.

Wasn't Cole Stockton shit once upon a time?
A few of our players were. Nobody really rated Stockton, Ridehalgh, Kirby, Ihiekwe or even Vaughan under previous managers but they have all blossomed under Mellon. That is what having a decent manager does for you.

Similar to what Cowley has done at Lincoln, but Mellon does not get the same credit.

Not really? Been getting the odd 10k attendance even through the double relegation seasons.
We got more than 10,000 for an FA Cup third round tie only two years ago, the season we finished 92nd in the Football league.

Even since relegation from the Championship, we have pretty regularly got five figure crowds for big matches.

Mellon hasn't got as much credit as Cowley because Cowley won the league and got to the FA Cup quarter finals, knocking out a Prem side in the process. Mellon didn't. He has done well though.

Southampton were 3-0 up before we came back and won 4-3. They thought they were home and dry.

Nothing is over until it's over. We need to be professional on Saturday.
