it will be the nervous fans that are saying you have fucked it up. Great opportunity for you this season which kind of came out of nowhere although I said at the start I thought you would do well.
We've done well however it pans out. Though it's silly. You have a great season, then lose a few games and suddenly we're shit, this player's not good enough, got to question the manager etc etc. Means you're only content if you're winning the league.

Got a solid enough platform to build too (although Monk leaving wouldn't surprise me). I can see us losing in a play-off semi - that's my expectation right now.

it was same at villa under MON. Once the expectation level rises then all the moaners become worse and more fickle. I also have a feeling you will fuck up in the semis.

Think that's the beauty of the position Huddersfield, Leeds and Reading are in, where we all have new, inexperienced managers who are overachieving this season. None of us were realistically expecting play-offs this season, so even if we miss out/fail to get through them the season will not be seen as a disaster. All three teams/managers are building distinctive styles of play that aren't easy to produce in such a short amount of time.

I think for Huddersfield it may be seen as slightly more of a failure, firstly because of how well they are playing (certainly third best team in the division) and also as they are reliant on several key loan players who likely won't be there next season, so they may not be as strong.

Drawing at home to the likes of Wolves, Burton and Ipswich is the reason we won't be in the mix.

Never thought I'd see a Preston fan say drawing at home 'to the likes of Wolves' as if it's a bad thing

Tbf you were still shite when we drew with you and it was a game we should be winning if we had any realistic play off aspirations. No idea why you've taken offence to such a harmless comment.

I don't think that was taking offence. Probably more of a comment on the respective rises and falls of the two clubs in terms of stature and expectations. For example, a lot of you guys thought/expected you'd beat us. That, again, is a reflection upon our respective club's rises and falls.

You're not very good.

Wasn't taking offense, just thought it was a strange comment as most of our fans looked at that game and thought we should be walking over the 'likes of Preston'. :dk:

The reality is we didn't, however.

Bit different with Villa though, we've probably been in the same league as Wolves for 10 of the last 15 seasons and have probably won more than we've lost against them.

Anyway my post wasn't about the clubs themselves, it was based on us not taking chances when we should have beaten the three teams comfortably if our finishing was up to scratch. Add Sheff Wednesday to that list too.

Last 15 games between us have been 5 wins each and 5 draws, so completely even. The reason the majority of our fans see Preston as a winnable game is that the money we have spent so far this season we could probably buy Preston North End and redevelop Deepdale into a scrapyard.

But yeah, throwing money around in this division doesn't garauntee you shit. Because of what we have spent it has driven up expectation. It's testament to Preston that you spend next to nothing yet more than match our overpaid, overhyped players. Despite what we have spent the league table doesn't lie, as you say we aren't very good.

Definitely, we won't have Mooy next season, Brown and Palmer are unlikely although we do have really good relations with Chelsea, and Kachunga will be tough to keep as there'll be many sides wanting him at such a low price (£1.5m I think I've read?), not just here but in the Bundesliga too I'm sure. So yeah, I'm not sure we'll ever have a better opportunity.

I'd go as far as saying we're the best side in the league right now (no, I can't believe I'm saying that either!).
Newcastle aren't looking particularly impressive and we just cruised past Brighton last week. This could all change very quickly though!

If Barnsley get 3 points at our place Tuesday then that puts them back in the hunt.

We have Brum, Fulham, Derby, Norwich, Leeds, Reading, Huddersfield and Newcastle all left to play this season, from the top 12 or so. We need to be winning most of them to have any real chance tbh, which obviously ain't going to happen.

Despite us not been convincing for the most part we seem to know how to win, things are starting to look abit better for us, more home games than away left to play which given our home record under Carvahal you would think we'll pick up a decent points haul over all of those games. I'm quietly confident we'll make the play-offs anyway.

Not been overly impressed with Wednesday but I think you will definitely make the play offs and go on to win the play off final.

We've not played well but are grinding out the results and putting points on the board, addition like Rhodes and Winnall only make us stronger and think we will be there shouts come May and the swagger will come back.

I don't think many things would top beating Leeds at Elland Road to reach the play-off final. It won't happen to us, mind.

I hate this league. Shame like Ipswich, we're stuck here forever.

Looking at your team on paper you should be challenging for top two so I'd definitely say your underachieving this season. However as you say with Rhodes and winnall that will definitely see you into the playoffs and I'd fancy you to beat all 3 of reading , Leeds and huddersfield. But I think derby and Norwich are underachieving too so I reckon they could both nick playoff spots.

I actually think I'd rather take on Wednesday in the play-offs than a couple of other potential options.

You are a threat at set pieces from Jansson and Bartley, that would be my fear, that said if we are hitting form then I'd be confident against anyone.

Massively underachieving. Your clubs in a pretty bad state atm.
if that team is playing anywhere near full potential then I think you could of been looking at automatic promotion or the play offs easily. I get that it takes time to gel but something is seriously wrong, still.

Defensively you're nowhere near good or strong enough to be competing IMHO, you have a wealth of attacking options but needing to score 2/3 every week to win games isn't easy.

We have the third best defence or joint third I think, and have kept 13 league clean sheets that is a solid base to win matches.

Baker's not done much wrong and Amavi has been dogshit since the '£25million' bid. We must be watching different teams.

since that bid he has gone downhill but before that he was a high quality player for this league. At the start of the season I thought we had a decent defence but we are a shambles.

Your defence is alright but why on gods earth does Alan Hutton still get a game?
