All eyes on El Shrimpico tomorrow - if our neighbours from across the Bay can do us a favour then I think we're safe.

Fresh from their morale-boosting win today, we'll lose at Oldham on Friday. Southend to beat Crawley at home on Saturday and narrow the gap to three points regardless of what they do tomorrow night and the upcoming Essex derby continues to loom large.

Draw at best v Crawley. We're at home. Not scored at home since Jan, won since early Jan

Oldham are far better away from home than they are at home though.

And we've got the worst away record in the league by some distance, so I'm sure we'll help them with that.

We were quite lucky to get a 1-0 at our place and for the last month we have been rubbish... rubbish as in one shot on target per game.

ANG to turn us inside out or a Fergie fundabolt (sic) and I can't see us getting back into it.

just leave Wright (both of them) at home and you'll win.

Win one of our games in hand and that should be that hopefully. 8 games to pick up the 2 wins I think we need.

I think although it’s a thin straw to be clutching at if there was an opponent I’d want my team come up against next it’d be Crawley and that is who Southend have. I think it’s likely too much to do but if they can narrow the gap ahead of the Colchester game then pressure can do strange things and you never know.

We have to win Saturday. Nothing else will do. I can't see anything from the Exeter game. It'd be nice to beat Col U to climb out. The most points we can get is 54. There's only an 12 point margin to play with.

Absolutely barmy stats at the bottom really.

Southend 1 loss in 6
Grimsby 8 unbeaten

Of those 13 unbeaten games the 2 have shared only 2 wins and 11 draws! Add in Walsall and Colchester draw specialists as well.

Pivotal weekend coming up, Southend fail to beat free falling Crawley and Colchester beat home strugglers Oldham and it’s all but over.

Colchester lose and Southend win and then it does open it up to 2 from 3, although can’t see Grimsby making up the ground.

We've have improved greatly over the last 8 games (won 1 drawn 7) and only Cheltenham on Easter Monday were the better side overall since our 'upturn'. It's too late now though, but at least we are having a go. Luck leaves you when you need it, but we've also had some strange decisions go against us lately, or it seems that way, when you are desperate for 3 points. Still not over, but I think we will leave this division at the end of the season.

I say it every weekend but it really is last chance saloon on Saturday. If we can cut the gap to 4 with a game in hand then we’re still in it, I do think Colchester have a run in them though. However if their game against Southend is a draw then there’s a chance, our run in is horrid though.

We need 5 wins from the last 8 at a bare minimum

You only have 7 left! Not sure what you’d need issue is everyone above the bottom 2 is already on 41 points so 47/48 for the bottom 2 maybe needed, that kind of mad run. Sillier things have happened though.

But for poor finishing and conceding twice after the 88th minute, we'd have won 5 or 6 of those 8 unbeaten. I know every team has their 'what ifs' and 'but fors' but we're certainly not now one of the 2 worst teams in the division, but we will be over the 46 game season, which is obviously all that matters. The team just doesn't have enough firepower to get those wins needed but had we had this team since the start we'd have finished somewhere around 14th I reckon.

Aye typo, as has just been said we genuinely could’ve won all 8 that we’ve gone unbeaten and I’m not even being biased. We’re running out of time but it’s 100% within us and is why I believe we’ll at least finish above Southend.

Aye I think that’s right. Seems Grimsby are making it hard for their opponents and I suppose that’s all you can ask of your team at this point. Good thing is the teams above are not pulling away so there’s always a chance.

Whatever happens this should mean Holloway never has a job in football again after this. Baffled me there were actually some Vale fans who would have had him as manager when our job was vacant.

What baffles me a bit is that still quite a few of our fans on Twitter say that Hurst has to shoulder some of the blame if we’re relegated.
His first load of games were played with the shite that Holloway left him with and he has turned us into a team that whilst is still not brilliant, is much better than the team he inherited.
I get that his subs are sometimes baffling but that aside he couldn’t really have done much more and if we are relegated then only one man is to blame and that man is Ian Holloway.

I'm aware that people will say that I'm on some grade A gear but I'm calling it now - I got this hunch Grimsby are staying up. Failing that I think they'll take it to the final day of the season. And of course this reminds me that I sure hope we'll have won promotion by that time cos I sure don't want us being the ones to relegate them.

Having said that, while I reckon Southend will be one of the two sides to go down, I don't have a clue as to which side will be the other if Grimsby really do pull it off. I think Col U have enough quality to stay up and Barrow are not really what I'd call a poor side. I can't say I would be surprised if the Saddlers will be the other side as I did say I could see really struggling this season and we weren't even halfway through the season when I said that.

If Grimsby stay up with their run in it would be the greatest of escapes in fairness.

Saw the run ins posted on Twitter and Barrows is pretty nasty too, all top of the league sides apart from us (who are top of the form table) and Southend which would be the humdinger.

I guess the best opponents would be the mid table ones at this point.

Southends run in is probably the best but a couple of tricky assignments and some big six pointers.

Colchester have three massive games which would be winnable including the big one against Southend, however come out of that poorly they have a real nasty last three games.

Wrong, there are two men to blame, and one of them has overseen 15 years of failure at this club

I think another couple of wins from the 8 remaining games should be enough. Another thing we've got in our favour that we didn't 6 weeks ago was that we are now ahead of Colchester, right behind Walsall (who were horrific against us), and have games in hand over everyone.

I agree the run in is tough but when the pressure's on at the end of the season strange results are thrown up, form over the season can somehow go out the window. With a league as competitive as this any game is a tough one especially in this season like no other, but teams pushing for promotion may look at games against the bottom 5 or 6 and are already counting the three points and maybe that's where they come unstuck. Rob Kelly said himself recently that there's every chance we will pick up the points we need in the games we weren't expecting to get anything.

We've already beaten two playoff/auto chasing sides in Cheltenham and Newport in the last 10 games. If we don't stay up from this position then we don't deserve to.

We had four big home games left against Port Vale, Barrow, Walsall and Southend. So far we've picked up one point from the first two of those. At this moment, Southend looks more of a must not lose than a must win, but that can change before then.

Strangely, if the season had started with this current 24 game run of form I'd already be thinking we'll need a bit of a great escape to get out of this, so if we do survive it will have been a bit of a great escape in reverse. I still think it's remarkable we haven't dropped into the bottom two yet.

Interesting viewing that, not least as if we hadn't found some form over the last five games we'd be rooted at the bottom. Also shows how fortunate a number of us are that we had reasonable starts.

Pretty remarkable seeing Newport there given they are still right in the playoff mix.

Well a few seasons ago holloway did say you’d be looking to get out of the division in the next few years, i’m sure he’ll be thrilled .
