Well Carlisle are out of this now.

So long you shit c***! :fing:

Enjoy the conference and why don't you try appointing a world class manager for a change like we have?

You're all tinpot and deserve to go down bunch of negative wankers.
Yes, if only we were as optimistic as all the Carlisle fans...

I've always remained positive and even though we are cruising one of our fans here still thinks we're the second worst team in the league.

He is always looking over his shoulder for where the next defeat is..

The promotion race in this division is pretty insane, but also it's a bit mad that after six successive defeats, Oldham have two opportunities now to get out of the relegation zone regardless of results elsewhere.

Oldham didn’t look too bad on saturday, and we’re worthy of the 1-0 at halftime (though our first half tactics were terrible).

we came out blazing 2nd half and once we got the equaliser their heads fell, but a win of stevenage would be massive for them and their confidence. If they lose i think they’re doomed.

Can’t say I’d mind too much if we succumbed on Tuesday. Probably going to be the team that officially relegates Scunny as well. Plus we have the chance to play party pooper for four promotion-chasing sides and two spicy mid-table cup fixtures against Crawley and Walsall. The fun never ends in League Two.
We play Stevenage on the last day of the season, so could be the team that relegates them. I'm sure a lot of the division will be cheering us on if that is the case, though I don't mind them so much myself, they've been hot on our heels for much of the last two decades and we've played them so often they almost seem like a fond adversary. That said I'd sooner they go down than Oldham or Barra.

Thought we were gonna be the ones to relegate them a couple years ago, or at least be the last league game they play as we had them last day before a combination of covid, Bury's demise and Macclesfield's points deduction saw them survive.

They've been unlucky, with last minute goals costing them defeat in three of the last six, including when we played them, but they need to turn things around now, and fast... luck or no luck. As much as it is in their hands to escape the relegation zone this week, failure to take that opportunity could leave them with an uphill struggle... not least because it would involve handing Stevenage some momentum.

Biggest week in the history of their club potentially.

I believe that most would happily keep oldham and relegate stevenage if they had the option.

Stevenage has no redeeming features at all, especially now that fat c*** is their manager.

I assume you’re referring to me so here goes…

Firstly, we were absolutely the second worst if not the worst team in the league a little over a month ago.

Secondly, I still believe this squad is one of the worst in the division which makes the job Simpson has done all the more impressive. If you think this squad is all of a sudden good enough to push on at this level, you’ll get a hell of a shock next season if Simmo doesn’t stay and we don’t clear out this squad.

This survival is all on him. Without him we would be going down, 100%. I would not be surprised if I found out Paul Simpson could turn water into wine.

Two wins needed this week or we’re down, that’s how I see it anyway. Draw today and win on Saturday might just about keep us in it but realistically think we need all 6 bearing in mind ours and Stevenage’s fixtures.

Everything has contrived to shit on us at the same time over the last few weeks (last minute goals, penalty misses, injuries, suspensions) but it’s the owner’s refusal to fund a fit centre forward this season that has and will ultimately cost us - that’s not luck, just gross mismanagement.

Will be there for both and I’ll be honest, I’m shitting myself!

Better than being held in low esteem because Stevenage sent you down tbf.

Exactly.

Take what you can get.

i’d rather held in high regards than be in the conference. if oldham go down their local game in the conference will be altrincham who they’d play on boxing day and new year’s day.

Also coming up from the conference north/south are gateshead and maidstone as it stands, also in the conference south playoffs are footballing giants such a dorking (wherever the fuck that is).

I’d be shitting myself too.

As I said, what a time to be alive.
Sorry folks, been watching Oldham since 1976, just cant get excited at the prospect of your Stevnages, Crawleys, Mansfields, Hartlepools , barra's etc of the world.
But yeh there is the possibility of much worse.
No disrespect to any other club or groups of fans just not great to be an Oldham fan recently.

Its not much worse, its stratospherically worse. Not least because it looks for the next few seasons at least to be more difficult to get out of, with clubs breaking the bank to even be in the running to go up.
Two up is really hurting, but I'm sure the two clubs who gain promotion (as its looking like they will have spent a long time in non league) will oversee trying to get more clubs promoted in future.....

I remember when we went down to the conference when we were in a similar position to oldham. i don’t think anything prepared me for just astronomically wank it is, the playing sides you’ve never actually heard of before, losing to them on a tuesday night when they bring 7, the inept refs, the amount of tuesday nights, the fa trophy, having to qualify for the 1st round of the fa cup. If said poster can’t get motivated by playing the likes of us they’ll be suicidal next season when they’re up again altrincham on boxing day

I’ve always said there should be a playoff involving the 3rd bottom side when we were down there and now we’re back up.

I'm not sure you ever had the pleasure of the Setanta Shield/ Carthium Cup. I think they have scrapped it now!
I went to Aldershot on a Tuesday night to see us lose 1-0 in that. I think that was a low.

Yes we played one match in it away to york, we lost on penalties (as mansfield tend to do).

I didn’t go.

In fact it was on tv and i still didn’t watch it.

Well we are where we are, hopefully our owner sells up shortly meaning we can go into next season ( wherever that is ) with new owners who can take us forward and stop the rot caused through poor ownership and decisions.
We are a club with great potential and history so hopefully we will beat Orient and Stevenage this week, we must not go down.

Thankfully we will be out of business before the end of next season so we won't have to experience the conference for long

Charlatans in the board-room. A squad that, whilst individually talented, did not seem to give a shite for much of the season. Probably two of the worst managers the whole of football (let along just ECFC) have ever seen for much of the season (To his credit, Gary Peters did almost perform a late-season minor miracle to keep us up)

On the bright side it did at last open the door for the supporters to finally gain control of the club (only cos no other fecker wanted us!) and that, plus the major miracle of Tony cascarino and "Ball 64" a little later and our climb back to the real world could finally begin...took quite some time though,

I went to the game, officially away following of 44, however got talking to some lads in the away end that night who were actually York fans who had never stood on the open away end at Bootham Crescent and thought it would be a good idea to ‘complete’ all four sides of the ground at that game.

It was my third visit in nine weeks to Bootham Crescent to watch the Stags that night as we had already played them there in league and FACup that season already.

Worst thing about it for me is that, as things stand, we’d struggle again next season.

There are literally no redeeming features to that division, getting beat by tinpotters and you can’t even drink watching it. It does feel as though its getting to the point where it needs to be a ‘division 5’ and have more relegation and promotion spots, but maybe that’s me being biased as it would favour us coming back more quickly.

I suppose the good thing is that we wouldn’t be alone down there and while it is an incredibly grim thought, IF our ownership situation can finally be sorted for the better, there’s no reason we can’t get back to 6-8k crowds regularly and compete at the top of a league for a change.

The biggest thing for us is the owernship, if that changes then who knows what we could achieve, as you say we can get decent crowds and have done so, we are getting between 4500 to 6000 home fans at the minute in our worst ever time.
Keep the faith

So has Simeu.

He looked like one of the worst footballers I’ve ever seen under Millen.
Now since Simpson came in, he looks way too good for this level.

Another example of Paul Simpson turning water into wine over night.

I always thought he looked like a player with some quality about him, he has the physical attributes and some of the stuff he did was technically good but not well timed, especially at this level where teams don't play to the strengths of a ball-playing defender. He was only 19 when he came to us though, and had never played senior football in his life, so he needs some guidance. Don't think he was getting that off Millen at all who just threw him into the starting line-up and let him get on with it. Now he's working under a manager who won the World Cup for Simeu's age-range a pretty ringing endorsement of how well he can manage 19/20 year olds. Under Simmo he's actually using his physicality against attackers, not afraid to get injured and particularly in the game against Rovers, we defended a high line which I think suits him well as he can get on the ball and be in a position to do something clever with it that he maybe couldn't do under Millen defending his own 18 yard box.

You lot were the ones confirming to me he is/was shite. Tbh not sure how he got MOTM as he had nothing to do
You were definitely creating chances, even if you were pretty wasteful with them. Besides that the high line we played meant that even if he didn't have loads of Rovers attacks to snuff out, when he did get the ball he could use it positively.
