Can't really see a way out for us now. It's what you get when the whole attitude around the club is that we should just be happy that the big boys let us play with them and definitely shouldn't aspire to anything more.

You have a chance of getting 6 points from 6 vs Everton and Watford, still not impossible for you to stay up.

Not impossible but very unlikely. Sunderland playing Everton and Watford as well and they have as much chance of beating them as we do. We then have United and they have Chelsea so unlikely to get anything (but not impossible especially at this stage of the season) so Sunderland are in a better position than us. Newcastle will likely beat Villa and then will need something v Spurs.

In my opinion this makes Sunderland the favourites, then Newcastle and then us.

We need 2 wins and that should be enough, not confident that will happen though. So I'm putting my faith in Villa and Spurs to beat Newcastle and hopefully we can get a win from somewhere.

Newcastle are five points clear and the most Norwich will get is 4 points. That makes them mathematically relegated in my book.

Of Sunderland and Newcastle, I expect Sunderland to stay up but really want Newcastle to. The Big Sam narrative is nauseating beyond belief.

Newcastle need to get a goal or if Sunderland win they can secure safety against Everton..

The call if we didn't have enough decent strikers would be "Defoe for England"

Yep. Sunderland win on Wednesday and the relegation battle is all over, Norwich and Newcastle will be relegated.

Yes, sad to say Everton are probably the easiest team to be playing at this time

Quite enjoyed yesterday. Its definitely not over yet though - look at the Villa and Mags game if you want proof that they're are no bankers in the PL (my betting history proves that).

However if we do stay up I would be confident that we wont be in this position again next season. Our owner always invests and we actually have the making of quite a good side with the signigns of Kone, Kirchoff and Khazri in January without who we'd be down- Big Sam would be able to properly build his own side.

I'd expect Newcastle to be favourites to get straight back up again if they go down. With or without Rafa they have a good side for the championship.

Don't know how true it is but several papers have reported that a lot of Newcastle players don't have relegation wage clauses in their contracts.

If so then I can see them doing a QPR whilst they offload a lot of high-earners and try to become sustainable. Even with parachute payments paying Jonjo Shelvey £80k in the Championship doesn't quite add up

If I remember correctly, that was the case last time... Meanwhile at Villa, we reportedly have 50% wage drops in the event of relegation for everyone. Must be why we're playing a bit better now, players wanting that cash back, clearly.

bit of a stretch that mate. we relegated ourselves by being shit for 90% of the season and waiting too long to make a change. rafa comes in a couple of weeks earlier and we stay up i reckon.

must say i find it funny the one season jabba spends some money is the season we go down. it's almost as if his decade of ridiculous neglect has cost him.

Oh definitely, we can't claim to have done it ourselves certainly, but it appears we've banged the final nail in. Did want Norwich to actually do something and stay up over Sunderland, as they generally annoy me. New manager per year, and honestly would have rather they dropped than you lot. Annoying also that we waited a bit too long to sack Sherwood to get Allardyce, we may have stayed up (unlikely, I know) under him.

Ah well, the Championship has to be more fun than this season for both teams, surely?

i think everyone in the division is a bit sick of the annual sunderland routine of getting a new manager and narrowly escaping.

aye, was good fun last time we were down there. more football to watch with the added fixtures and it's nice to win some games for a change, though i don't think we were as dominant as the table made out last time. it's a tough league with a lot of capable teams. big summers for both clubs, more so yourselves imo. if we can hang on to mbemba (big future ahead for him), townsend, mitrovic and convince aarons to stay we should do well. excited to see armstrong (hopefully) play some games too.
