A lot of Derby fans would snap your hand off for him back, the best football we've played in years under him. The capitulation was momentous, if he ever did come back (which I doubt anyway) I'd imagine his head wouldn't be turned as easily as last time so things would hopefully never get as messy as they did.

McCarthy could well be gone quite soon. It will be either he goes or the fans will!

Seems like the Derby owner had been spying on training using drones!

The mighty Rams!!!
I think that's headlines. We've got cctv cameras hooked up on every pitch to show absolutely everything from the training ground. Sounds bollock to me. The fact that it's something that people take note though is represenstive of the what people think of Morris

Feel sorry for RDM, it doesn't matter how good your squad is, if you bring in an entirely new team, it's going to take time to gel and I'm not talking about a couple a months. I've said it before I think Villa would be that team who go on a big winning run in the second half of the season when it all clicks. But RDM going throws that into doubt. Basically Villa are rolling the dice.

I agree and disagree.

RDM spent circa £50m on 9 players (from memory, could be slightly out).
Lee Johnson spent circa £14m on 14 players.

Neither side has fully clicked yet, but one has been getting the results.

Lee J did have an advantage in knowing the squad from last season and having time to get his summer targets lined up, but RDM has less players to have to gel into the squad as well as the ability to cherry pick who he wanted from this division (bar Newcastle players).

I think if Villa keep RDM they will finish midtable to just about top half because some of their play in the first half against us was great. But they are so weak mentally there is no chance of a promotion push right now.

Lee Johnson had half a season before the summer to get used to the club, players, how things worked. Yes I know he brought a lot of players over the summer but don't underestimate how important that second half of the season was for him to really get a grip on the club itself. Look at David Wagner at Huddersfield as well, he's hugely benefited from a large transitional period where his team was beaten comfortably on a regular basis last season until he could fully stamp his influence on the whole club. Hughton had the same thing at Brighton. Let's not forget Villa are only 7 points off the playoffs and it's October. Five wins in a row and they'll be right up there again, they've got the players to do it no doubt.

I just don't see how a Steve Bruce or a Nigel Pearson (I'm assuming one of these would be appointed if RDM left) could be any better than Di Matteo.

But would we? 1 win in 12 games after £50million?

I understand he's only had 12 games in charge, but come on, this is last season form ffs.

I can see you going on a run at some point. And your start of the game against us had some very good play.
There were question marks about fitness in that game, and though not being match fit at the start of a season is poor for a professional player (barring ones from injuries) that won't be a problem for the whole season.

My biggest concern around Villa is mental strength as that still seems to be a problem.

It is a problem, but the tactics have been mostly all over the place, we may have dominated you (and basically every other fucking team this season), but how many chances did we actually have?

Lost god knows how many points due to late goals.
Lost 9 points due to signing an inexperienced young keeper with no decent back up (no, Bunn doesn't count.)

And to be honest, we've looked like we're getting worse rather than better recently.

RDM officially sacked now - little bit worried they might go for Smith (he is a Villa fan...) but our board have been pretty good with appointing managers (with the exception of Dijkhuizen) so trust them to get it right if he does go.

No surprise really. Shame it never worked, but some might say he never had the time. My view is that we were getting worse and he seemed to be getting more desperate. How long could we let this go on ? It's probably the right decision because the season is still young. I'd like rowett if I'm honest, because I think he's a very capable manager, and I could see him as a long term manager, where as someone like Bruce would only be short term imo.

I can see either Maradona or Klinsmann take charge at villa.

6th manager to be sacked after playing us in the last 12 months. We used to be a great team to play to end a bad run, not anymore :)

Steve Bruce is an absolute shoe-in, I'd be disappointed, but he'd be a good appointment for them IMO.

The Guardian‎ reporting that Villa like Wagner at Huddersfield.

Given that he's only been at Hudds for a few months, it'd be nice if Wagner stayed to see how far he could take them. He won't be short of offers in the future if he wants them.

John Gregory is ready and waiting.

Passionate about Villa, knows the club, vastly experienced, fits the key criteria of being smarmy, smug and deluded. He's the man.

Rowett deserves lynching if he even dares thinking about going for the Villa job.

yep, exciting days they were when he was in charge. Proper villa man too. I loved his comment about dwight Yorke when he left us to join United. You lot are jealous bastards:bg: admit it, you picked the wrong club in brum to support, hence why your bitter about us. If it's too hard to admit on here in view of everyone just pm me and I promise I won't tell anyone :2thumb:

me and my grandad were talking about it yesterday. Both of us think he wouldn't come to villa. He's on a winner at blues really, and there is just too much expectation at villa.

That is why the majority of your fan base derive from Staffordshire and neighboring counties.

I'd be stunned if Wagner left for them. He's building something special at Huddersfield, he'd be bonkers to pack it in at this stage. Like you said he'll have his pick of offers in summer if Huddersfield don't go up.

Also as Wagner has proved with Hudds, he's not a quick fix manager. It takes time to implement his philosophy on the club so most likely Villa would have to write off promotion this season if they got him in.

that myth can be killed by looking at each clubs average attendances from way back. Of course we have more fans that come from outside the city, and that's because we are a much bigger club. I'd go as far to say there are just as many villa in brum, if not more. You are right about Staffordshire though, loads of villa and wolves.

Bruce and Smith are the early favourites with the bookies. Would be happy with either.

I'd be amazed if Wägner left us for anyone in this league after spending so much time turning us into the team he envisaged. He's been backed all Summer for the players he wanted and we're flying. Hoyle has come out and said if we're still up here come January he will push to budget out to sign some Premier League players to get help get us up there come May.

Hasn't Smith ruled himself out? I may be wrong. Not that it matters if he has of course as he could always do a U-turn when the cash is flashed.
