Can confirm, this thread's better than Scott Jurek's book.

Bloke genuinely seems to undertake things like the vegan diet solely because it's "alternative". Alarm bells when he starts performing the same logic with homeopathy vs. ibuprofen on 100-mile desert trails.

Glad I stumbled on this! Just made the jump back to vegitarian last week, been on my mind for ages now and I was for over a year when I was around 16/17 but stopped for health reasons. Basically I didn't manage my diet like I should have, but it's time to give it another crack and I'll definitely be checking out some of the food and recipes you lot have mentioned.

Think I saw Cowspiracy mentioned earlier on, definitely a watch for absolutely everyone who will give it a crack. Not to try and convert, but to at least open peoples eyes to it because it's absolutely shocking.

This is vegetarian rather than vegan:

http://www.countryliving.com/food-d...n-squash-pepper-tomato-gratin-recipe-clx0614/

We used aubergine instead of squash. We also added in an extra pepper, 1 chilli and spinach. We used Double Gloucester cheese and a bit more than it said in the recipe with a side of sweet potato mash.

Was lovely. :) I would add an extra chilli though as the spice didn't come through. Enough left for tomorrow too.

Oily fish and the occasional slab of organic beef guys. A vegan diet will fuck you up, stop being faddy. Even if you're nailing it (which you won't be) you'll be depriving your temple of bio omega 3's. Enjoy DHA deficiency.

A vegan diet isn't faddy and won't fuck you up. Fish isn't the only place to get omega 3 from. The only thing you can't get from a balanced vegan diet is B12, so I take a supplement.

Getting all the nutrients you need from a Vegan diet is difficult, very difficult. If you've got a nutritionist & chef then yeah it's doable, in reality though you're gonna cut corners and end up deficient. And nah, even the best vegan diet is still gonna lack bioavailable forms of omega-3. You'd also have to eat a shit tonne of foods countaining alpha-linolenic acid to reach merely acceptable levels of DHA, to the point youd sacrifce other foods to not go over on your calories.

That's really not true.
I think you're underestimating the demands of the human body. If someone is totally committed then maybe, but the reality is they'll "not have the time" with work and other daily chores. Why did you omit the other part of my post? You did suggest it was easy to get in your omegas.

If you want to eat clean guys then just cut out processed shit and stick to organic. Cutting out all animal products is just retarded. You're depriving your body of what it naturally needs to keep ticking over, so whilst you're telling yourself that you "feel great, dead clean bro got tonnes of energy" you ain't. You just can't get what you need from a solely plant based diet, that's a fact. The humble egg, why the fuck would you want to eradicate an egg ffs, it provides you with so much.

Synthetic supplements, yummy...

Leaving aside the faddy/not faddy aspect of the conversation, do you really think that someone with a typical diet would be much healthier than a vegan that was making a good effort to eat all the right things? I ask this because people critical of veganism often bring up certain nutritional deficiencies, and I always think that the average person in Britain has a fairly crap diet, with excessive amounts of red/processed meat, alcohol, etc. that will have far worse long term effects than some issues vegans might face (and could overcome with supplements).

Full disclosure: I am not a vegan.

You are barking up the wrong tree with Abertawe there Max. The man knows good food. His favourite restaurant is a fast food joint called "Chunky Chicken" or something like that.

I am no longer vegan, thankyou for your time.

(I only eat red meat one day a week and eat a far more plant-based diet, I even order vegetarian options in restaurants now #progress)

Yup, I for one am definitely going to be making regular trips up to Stockport in order to procure some PREMIUM ORGANIC MEAT from gourmet poultry retailer 'Chunky Chicken'™
Listen, my general diet will piss all over yours chump so don't get rude. Everything I consume is organic, everything. I will only fuel my body from what grows in the ground, reared free on the land or wild out of the ocean. I'm almost certainly a better cook than you too so I be eating shit you could only dream of on a daily. We're living good. Ask me for a tip and I'll perhaps throw you a bone. Don't try and defend a stupid diet that leaves you deficient because it's got a nice hipster & liberal tag associated with it. It's not heathy to be a vegan.

Bish has now come to his senses. He's closer to having an optimum diet now he's not following some retarded theory. I imagine he needs much work though. No fish is massive no-no. He strikes me as the kind of lad who doesn't care where his butter or sugar comes from, constantly cutting corners.

I've been doing similar to Bish for maybe two months now. Meat say once every couple of weeks at most. And then it'll be something that also has meat, like a chicken salad or a pizza or summat, rather than a big in your face slab of flesh Iike a steak.

Don't wanna go vegetarian and put a label on it because there's no need and I do want the option, but neither do I want to eat meat any more than I am doing right now. Feel kinda bad when I do eat it tbh.

Go easy on the bulletproof coffee at this time of night Abe.

Massive fan of veganism but my sister doesn't half cook some shit to try win us over.

Today it was some truffles. They were pretty much coconut oil with some cocoa powder sprinkled on. Couldn't pick it up and after handling it you felt like you'd just delivered a baby.

Took my Easter egg this year without asking us and filled it with this orangey chocolate gloop too. I guess it would've been indulgent to have a solid chocolate egg. It wasn't. I have the sweetest of teeth but the cloying quality of this stuff made me throw it away. An egg I'll never get back.

Never understood the preachy vegan stereotype until she went vegan. Entirely a does-it-to-look-good thing. Never even feeds our animals or walks our dog but is always up for a good Facebook status about how better at eating she is than everyone else.

No expert but I believe my butter comes from a cow primarily. I will also only eat foods that combine with the day of the week in an alliterative way and it shows what sort of MORON you are that you don't follow this golden rule.

I would like to announce that I am now a vegan.

Thank you for reading.

Abertawe
I'm very disappointed to read this. With your jawline you surely can't afford to go Vegan? I mean come on, you'll be known as the man with bones for a face that lives on a boat.

Two things I don't eat now that I am vegan.

I'm much fatter than that now btw, ask ur mum.

I point you to this..

Fish is good for you. Can you replace the valuable fatty omega-3 acids prevalent in fish which help strengthen your brain cells? I fear not, and sadly that's why vegans are so stupid.

It seems you're already suffering the ill effects.

I can't believe I was such a fool.

I've been vegan for ten minutes and I can honestly say I've never felt better in my entire life.

Here's a directory for you http://www.barnivore.com/beer?vfilter=Vegan

I don't know how comprehensive it is. My local vegan grocery has loads and quite a few well known breweries are mostly or completely vegan. I'm not sure if Guinness is vegan yet but if not, they're planning to go vegan at some point this year.
So none of them are brewed with yeast? Interesting.
