PSA - Overwatch is free on PS4 and XBOX One this weekend.

Try it and then buy it, it is awesome.

Just got that lightning bolt type spell. Pretty much kills anything in one or two hits. Those enemies which use the same spell are very, very annoying.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Broken through the ice and reached some sort of Underground city.

Finished. Quite enjoyed it. Think I enjoyed the 2013 game a little more though.

I've just not managed to properly get into that. I loved the 2013 game so I got RotTR for Xmas... didn't get around to playing it until about April and I'm still not finished as I never find myself wanting to go back to it. I guess stopping mid way through to play the vastly superior Uncharted 4 didn't help its cause but... it's been underwhelming I reckon. I still think I'll finish it... I'm just in no particular rush.

The TR reboot was pretty formulaic, though wasn't it. The crafting and side-quest mechanics were borrowed straight from similar action-rpg Ubisoft titles, the narrative structure and jumping physics were near-identical to Uncharted and the 'origins' story mirrored a pop culture trend that began in superhero adaptations nearly a decade ago.

Saying that, it was still more fucking edifying than Uncharted, though. Jesus Christ.

Only a contrarian would claim Uncharted isn't brilliant.

I've got back into AC:Syndicate with the intention of finishing it, I'm on 30% apparently - we'll see how it goes. I like it, it's certainly the best effort since AC:Brotherhood (Yes, the concept of Black Flag was ace but it was also littered with the notorious tailing missions which thankfully have been far less prominent in Unity & Syndicate). The story is cool too, Frye twins are the best protagonists since Ezio and it's easy to follow. Repetition of the side missions (child liberation, Templar hunt, bounty hunt, gang stronghold) is my only real main gripe.

THIS IS WHAT I SAID AT THE TIME! But you said no. :lac:

I still haven't gotten around to buying Syndicate yet though. Had all the AC games but just can't be arsed for more of them now... I'm sure I'll love running around the games London setting, but after a while the old familiarity will set in and I'll find myself playing it more to get it out of the way than to actually enjoy myself.

If you're someone who can look past AC's general flaws (i.e. you quite enjoy the games but know they're not great) then it's for you I'd say. It's about as good an AC game can possibly be with the model of releasing a new one every year. I'm trying to get it finished before the flurry of games at the end of this year - Mafia III (which actually looks a bit crappy in recent gameplay vids), Dishonored 2, Tomb Raider (on PS4...finally), Watch Dogs 2, FIFA, WWE 2K17 & Pokémon Sun/Moon will all likely be purchased. So if I don't finish a couple of games on my backlog now, I never will.

Very interested to see what they'll manage to do with the next instalment given the extra time.

Yeah, I always find myself with a mad little flurry of finishing games at this time of year. I'm currently trying to get through (as I mentioned) Tomb Raider, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. And it doesn't help that I keep finding myself playing stuff like Theme Hospital on top of all of this... and that I totally want to get that Bioshock triple pack coming out next week.

On the topic of games coming out though, actually... for me, this year, it feels more like I'm just getting the games I sort of auto-purchase more than getting games that I'm really excited for. And then there are a few I'm sort of waiting on reviews for...

But the only games I'm really excited for right now are Pokemon Sun/Moon and Civilization 6 I think. The auto purchases are the yearly shit like PES (though it's a bit interesting to see if PES can keep it up, or if FIFA will strike back and give us a decent game this year to try to compete), Call of Duty, FM and WWE 2k17. And then the ones I'm waiting to see the reviews on are the likes of Mafia III, Gears 4 (I loved Gears but just can't be arsed for it if it's more of the same again), Titanfall 2, Watchdogs 2 and Dishonored 2. I liked the BF One beta so I'm sure I'll get that (though I thought the same of Battlefront and never got that...) and I'm still watching out for The Last Guardian (even though my enthusiasm for it has died in the fucking AGE it's taken to release)... but yeah. I feel like we got the best of gaming early this year in XCOM 2, Overwatch and Uncharted 4, really.

Well, Tomb Raider at least let me play it and I've always felt safer with Lara.

Ironic that I am playing it too. Happy with the protagonists, the climbing animations are a bit farfetched IMO.

Decent enough game, reminds me of the good times, but I not something I would go to a midnight release for.

Nupraptor dead. Yay.

Call of Cthulu
Heard this is a great horror game. Real shame then that it keeps crashing every ten or so minutes. Very close to giving up if it doesn't improve.

I'm playing Bioshock remastered as well. Been so long since I played it, but it feels like yesterday now. Man, what a good game.

Finished up in Neptunes Bounty and I'm now in Arcadia. Time to put that security bullseye plasmid to work.

Been playing this too. Never finished it the first time around so giving it another go.
For all of it's great atmosphere ect, the security cameras and subsequent alarms raised by them ruin all immersion. Having to spend a minute shotgunning sentries that interrupt the recording im trying to listen to is getting kind of annoying. The rest of the time it`s quality.

Never had a problem with audio logs and other audio overlapping. Not actually set off an alarm on this playthrough.

Dragon Quest VII
Just cleared out the mines and retrieved a green gem for this kid and his dad.

Bioshock
Taken all the photos for Cohen's masterpiece. Creepy bastard.

In the past few days I've completed Sonic 1 and Sonic & Knuckles, didn't get all of the chaos emeralds in either though, Sonic 1 I just didn't have enough rings by the end of enough levels (got 5 emeralds though), Sonic & Knuckles I just couldn't find the bastard special stages, I played 2 and completed 2... Both will get a replay soon to get Super Sonic (do you even get Super Sonic in Sonic 1?), only need to complete Sonic 3 now and I've completed all of the sonic games that matter (1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles). May see if I can get Sonic CD on my PSP though, that would be nice to play as I've never even played that one!

Sonic 2 was by far the hardest to get all the emeralds. The last special stage is practically impossible. I was boss at finding the hidden stages in Sonic 3 & Knuckles though. Even years after playing it originally on the Mega Drive, I could still remember where they all were when I went back to it on emulators!

Sonic 2 has the worst final boss(es) too, 'here you go, no rings and a couple of tough bosses, have fun!' Bastards.
