Started I Am Setsuna. Lovely art style and a really nice, soothing score.
I want it so bad, but the rent is due out in a few days and payday is still over a week away.

I was taking a walk down nostalgia lane the other day with some Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Discovered the HD mod and the excellent fan made Horn of the Abyss mod, which is basically a full add on. What an excellent game

Been playing Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
dA6sBBb.png
on Xbox 360. My thoughts so far:

- The Music. It’s repetitive. Yes, it’s all official music from the film which adds to the authenticity but there is a lack of original music made just for the game. Certain music that you love from the film gets tiresome after hearing it every other time you encounter a new set of ghosts. The Ray Parker Jr song is in the game. Guess where you hear it……..significant moments during gameplay when the shit hits the fan? No. During a boss fight? No. Loading screen? Yep. Everytime you start the game up the story mode load up screen has the most famous music from the franchise. Talk about a waste. And as this happens everytime you start the game up so it gets old quick and you will be reaching for the mute button soon enough so the music doesn't get ruined.

- Saving. I don’t know why modern games can’t have a simple pick a save slot from the main menu type save function. If it ain’t broke….
Anyway, in this game you cannot manually save the game. It’s autosave only so you get no indication of when the game has saved. You just have to guess when to stop playing/you’ve reached a checkpoint. However, there were times when I thought I had reached an obvious checkpoint, quit and then when I came back to the game found myself further back than I had got to. Also had times when I had skipped forward in the story because of this crude save system.

- Authentic Ghostbusters action and if you felt like the movies were a little light on actual ghost catching action you can fill your boots here. Gameplay is decent in terms of catching ghosts but there are some aspects that aren’t so good. Sometimes you are prompted to scan a room with the PK meter and it’s a bit redundant. You can be fighting bosses and there seems to be little you can do to dodge their attacks.

- Some very creative and interesting paranormal environments.

- The original cast do the voices. This is great that they got everyone back together, although like with the music some of their speech is repetitive - during the ghost catching scenes. Eg. Winston keeps saying “Incoming!” and it’s annoying 1. because as I mentioned there’s a limited amount you can do to dodge attacks anyway and 2. because he just spams that piece of speech during most of the ghost catching scenes regardless of if anything is actually "incoming" or not.

Ah yeah, I played that back when it first came out. Not great by any means, but was actually a surprisingly good Ghostbusters game by its own rights. Better than I ever thought one could be, at least.

The only thing playing Pokemon Leaf Green all week has taught me is that 20+ hours of playing a Pokemon game and wandering aimlessly around Victory Road, searching fruitlessly for a route to the Elite Four, is enough to make you want to play just about anything else.

Recently I'm playing Tom Clancy's The Division, nice open world viedo game with an interesting plot and an awesome graphic. I'm planning to buy the expansion named Underground.

Crysis 3
Quite enjoyed the first Crysis and though the second was fairly average. Played the third for about half an hour and it's probably somewhere in between the first two. New York 'Jungle' looks lovely though.

Just Cause 3
More of the same. Not that I have a problem with that.

Finished the main story a month or so back - can get very repetitive but it does have a good gear/level up system. I hear the multiplayer is good and adds a new side to it, but by the time I'd levelled up enough to play it, I was already bored.

Just in the final stages of DOOM now. Been dead (excuse the pun) good imo. Unrelentless shoot 'em up that hasn't got old despite it being pretty one dimensional.

I have a few lined up after this that I've either got cheap on ebay or free through 'games with gold';

Trust me, you should try the multiplayer and visit the "dark zone", that is anything but boring

As far as I'm concerned, the dark zone was the only good thing about The Division. It's rare these days for me to get a game that I don't complete, but The Division is one of those games that I just couldn't be fucked with completing. It's repetitive as fuck, but a broken progression system is the biggest problem.

You can either:

Do missions, gaining XP, but no good gear or points to upgrade skills.
Do side quests, gaining points to upgrade skills but shit XP and no good gear.
Do the Dark Zone, gaining good gear but no XP and no upgrade points.

A horrible system of only being able to progress in one way at any time. It meant that level doesn't showcase how relatively strong/weak you are to any given scenario at all. Somebody who's done mostly darkzone and side quests will be very strong and able to breeze through missions well above their suggested level. Likewise, somebody who only does missions gets a false sense of what is achievable with their weak ass gear and no skill points spent. A strange, unbalanced, odd system that broke the game before it even had a chance.

Plus, you know, the repetitive as fuck game play didn't help.

Well, the missions are a bit repetitive, but the multiplayer is very entertaining in my opinion. If you think that The Division is repetitive as fuck I can't even imagine what you might think about a game like Destiny, that is much more repetitive in comparison. :conf:

Refused out of principle to pay for any DLC's and finished the base game within a few days - good job I got it on the cheap for no more than £6/7.

I didn't mind Destiny all that much, though yeah, it certainly got repetitive after a while and I've not played it in ages. Personally, I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as The Division though in terms of doing the same shit over and over.

Given up on the new Deus Ex after less than an hour. Absolutely fucking abysmal. One of the worst games I've ever played.

Get your refund if you've got less than 2 hours in game mate. Was thinking about buying it but I'll give it a miss now.

Stuff I've heard about Deus Ex has mostly been qualified praise. Meant to have excellent ai and emergent gameplay opportunities but piss poor narrative design. Why did you hate it, Cas?

BF1 Beta. It's as flawed as ever and not worth buying. Alright for messing around on for a few hours though, I like running people over with a horse.

WUT.

That arrived the day I left to go on Holiday and I only got around to finally playing it last night. Only got about an hour played but I thought it was decent enough to start with... not sure what exactly you could have seen in the game in that first hour to make you hate it to that extent!

But yeah, it's getting great reviews and I'm only seeing good stuff about it online really...

EXPLAIN YOURSELF.

Mainly have issues with most of the gameplay elements. Cover system is ridiculously inconsistent. I can't get to where I want half the time and for some reason the main character will crouch or just stand up randomly which kinda ruins the stealth element. Inventory is very cumbersome too.

Perhaps worst game of the year was a little over the top, but I'm certainly in no great rush to play it again. I've played that hour and a half or whatever since it became available on Steam and that's it.

Oh yeah, I've been playing some games.

World of Warcraft: Legion
Cracking expansion so far although I say that about every expansion after the first few weeks. Artefeact system is great, lore is great. It's all great.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
In the cave where you find the wolf transformation. Played around two and remembered why I loved this game in my younger days. It's just so good. The characters are fantastic, I love Simon Templemen as Kain, the combat is really well done for a game released in 96/97? Loading times are woeful though. Recommend this game if you've never played it.

Currently playing;

Assassins Creed Syndicate
My first foray into next gen AC. Reminds me of some good times, doesn't make me want to obsessively get back into the series

FIFA 16
Only Pro Clubs - my mate has racked up 1000 games!

BF1 Beta
This really ticks boxes for me, old school with enough technology to keep it interesting. Reminds me of BF1942 by the way it looks and feels.

got bored of No Mans Sky - very beautiful game, but doesn't reward me like Minecraft does.

Actually I am playing The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim again.
Played it 3 years ago with a "Barbarian" Character (into the dungeon, hit the Draugr with the battleaxe in the "skull" etc). But now I want to be more "subtle" and play a "Wood-Elf" Character with an Arrow (and Assassins technics. And I have to say this is a lot of fun again. I started last week and I am already a Level 31 Character (with the Barbarian I had a Level 81 Character before the Legendary Skills were introduced)

FINALLY got into the Witcher 3.... i was stuck on the mission with the Werewolf in Velen (still early on i know), the bastard kept regenerating and killing me

went away for an hour, completed a few other missions and then came back to him and killed him straight away. just navigating around Novigrad now

plus Lords of the Fallen is a freebie on PS+ this month, i have nearly bought it on so many occasions so i will probably play that this weekend until the FIFA 17 demo lands on Tuesday

I've been playing the fucking legendary game that is Theme Hospital as of late, but it's actually gone and fucked me in the ass today.

Firstly, I found myself (only about 3 or 4 levels in, mind you, so near the start) actually failing. I didn't even know that shit was possible. And why? Well, from the second the level started right up until the end, for some reason, I had absolutely ZERO doctors who could do psychiatry pop up and, for some god damn reason, only ONE nurse in the entire game. So I couldn't cure anybody with any psychological stuff and just the one nurse running around doing everything nurse related... and THEN, for some reason, SHE DISAPPEARED. She was still on the staff list, but just wasn't anywhere. And of course, I found that out just as I accepted an emergency. So fuck it.

And then, when I went to play again to give it another shot... my save game has now vanished as well. Good stuff, Bullfrog. I demand they go and make a patch.
