Christ, Amber Rudd's father died recently and May still made her go through that shit. That's fucking cold mind.

Just seen it was only 2 days ago. What a cold hearted woman May is.

It wasn't for her to do though tbh. May has completely shit out of this. Getting Rudd to do it instead just shows her absolute lack of character. I'd feel sorry for Rudd normally but as she's a fairly twisted, failure of a human I won't. Absolute shambles of a party and prime minister.

I have it on good authority (Twitter) that Mrs May was backstage and personally shoved poor, hopeless, grief-stricken Ms Rudd on stage. She then left to resume her normal evening activity, shoving malnourished orphans up chimneys while cackling maniacally. #nastyparty

At least she's stopped eating orphans.

Well there's been a shift over the past few days. That view that the Tories are the experts on the economy is finally being deconstructed.

Obviously it helps that the Tories are pulling blunder after blunder.

Comrade Lineker's Revolutionary Junta
He's funny and clearly a character but he is also an arse. Campaigning for somerset to have a different time to the rest of UK, having his nanny go round with him when campaigning.

Worst of all is his preference for filibuster to prevent democracy when he doesn't like a piece of legislation. One of which was to improve the NHS.

Rees Mogg's an absolute scumbag.

He's not the only Conservative figure with links to fascist supper clubs (Liam Fox and Owen Paterson have done similar) but he's the only one who did it after being explicitly told they're fascists.

True, but Milliband got nowhere near that ever so already Corbyn's got one in the bag. If the movement continues, which they do tend to show OK could actually be close after all.
Labour were pretty much dead even in opinion polling in the week leading up to the 2015 General Election. If they get within the 6 points that Milliband got within, they'll have done very well given they were up to 20 down in the last year.

Oh, I don't know about that. Think it's just the malnourished ones they shove up chimneys. The ones with a bit of meat on their bones go STRAIGHT IN THE OVEN
As usual, your knowledge of the Conservative Party's inner workings is completely facile.

FYI, the meatier orphans first undergo a period in which they are used as foot stools in cabinet meetings. After 2-4 weeks’ service in that capacity (this varies for obvious reasons – those ‘supporting’ Eric Pickles, for example, rarely lasted long), the orphans are mercilessly slaughtered in a satanic death ritual, which is typically performed in a candlelit dungeon (or, failing that, Peter Bone’s garden shed) and underscored by a scratchy recording of Margaret Thatcher’s 1988 speech to the Bruges Group. Following this, their lifeless bodies are sent to the Downing Street kitchen for 'reprocessing'. And even then they don’t go "straight in the oven”, as you ludicrously claim. Naturally, care is taken to first harvest any sellable organs.

Yes... it looks bad though. The Sun put out an article with the angle of "Rudd does debate despite losing her dad, what an absolute trooper!" but the natural reaction is to think that May should have been there in the first place. Whatever went on behind the scenes it just does not look good.

Theresa May suggested she had Brexit work to be doing tonight, but how many believe that she and her team didn't watch from behind a pillow?

I'm surprised by the positive opinions of Farron's performance - I thought he was pretty poor. I thought the best two speakers were Robertson and Lucas. Corbyn was pretty good and I thought the other four were all poor.

These debates are pretty shit though. They just become sound bites, hit backs and petty nonsense. I'd rather read/listen to a politician on their own.

May was a coward for not attending but her decision to debate does or doesn't make her a good or bad leader or even a good or bad politician. I don't vote for someone based on how good they are at arguing their point, I'm more driven to finding out what their point is myself rather than hearing their spin on it.

I think for the next general election they need to consider the format of these things. Seven is too many. Dunno how you square the circle when it comes to being fair to smaller parties but there must be some solution.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
I watched the first 40 minutes of it last night, so I will have missed stuff. From what I saw, I don't think either Corbyn or Rudd came out particularly well. Corbyn despite the audience cheer leading him on, struggled to impose himself on that format. 7 is too much as Alty says, a smaller group would have done Corbyn more favours and would have been easier to follow as a viewer.

Rudd was fending off constant attack, but seemed to come across really scripted and wooden. Fair play for doing it when her father passed away the other day, makes you wonder even more whether May should have stepped up.

I don't agree with her politics but Lucas probably spoke the best of the lot. Farron did alright too. Robertson didn't really say much whilst I was watching. The Plaid Cymru lady got a few digs in at Corbyn which rattled him once or twice, but she didn't have much of substance to say. Nuttal - meh, surprised he got a few ripples of applause (more so than Rudd) from that Cambridge audience.

The debate itself was a stalemate but the context will be remembered. A few may have had made very slight gains or losses as a result of the debate but on balance it was a draw. However, the absence of Theresa May which overshadowed the debate could be crucial. The fact that she could not be bothered to show up should really rile people. British people value qualities such as attendance and punctuality. Think about those who are on the fence or aren't 100 per cent sure if they are going to vote yet. If she can't get herself sufficiently motivated to attend a debate against her domestic rivals for an election that she called, then frankly why the hell should people get up off their backsides to vote for her? How unbelievably timid/arrogant.

Just do away with it altogether, I reckon. Those programmes always become messy and shouty. They are always a chore to watch. The Andrew Neil interviews have been good. A party leader answering questions from a studio audience is usually interesting. If you want to be fair, give every party leader the chance to do those two things.

Harassing parents and teachers outside the local school. Wanking over John McDonnell pictures on your phone at 6 in the morning. What next, mate? At what point will you realise you’ve taken this whole “being politically engaged” lark too far?
