Polling high for Labour.
View attachment 6489

I'm not sure how much of that is just the usual manifesto 'bounce', but additionally the campaign feels very different to how it did even a week ago. Crosby's inability to both dig up any real dirt on Corbyn and present May to the electorate without also exposing the mannequin's strings is letting Labour basically do what they want. Labour defeat or no, the fragility of May's position is palpable.

I'm not popping the victory drinks yet. I've been whinging about polls being an instrument of propaganda and demoralisation since the start of Corbyn's time so I should probably stfu when they are favourable. But you're right, it doesn't feel hopeless. It's almost like they've gone too early with the smears and now it lacks any conviction or meaning.

I think a good QT question to pose to May would be "why did you think there was a place in your campaign for Lynton Crosby after his racist London Mayor campaign against Sadiq Khan?"

Then I'd lean back and everyone in the audience (and Dimbleby) would be exactly like this:

In fact Dimbleby is the guy with his head in his hands.

Is it as bad as Natalie Bennett's one with Ferrari in 2015, where she faked a coughing fit and then said "I had a brain-fade"?
Hers has never faded back in, to be fair.

Is this the most beige election in history? I mean ever most of the MPs have lost interest. I mean, I dislike Tory MPs as much as anyone else, obviously, but some of them will need to spend less than a tenner to get back in. Is it true that Kim Jong Un is standing as a Tory in Taunton?

It's still going to be a Tory landslide, Labour have lost voters all over the country, even since 2015.

Wales won't blue nor will Yorkshire. Also that map is terribly simplistic. Bristol is red as is Norwich ....
Also Veggie legs, this is something cobbled up by Matthew Smith of Policy Exchange fame. A particularly grubby, right wing think tank.:dk:
Yes, it is a simplistic map and doesn't account for variations by constituency, but it's equally disingenuous to say that Norwich is red. Labour will most likely win one seat in Norfolk, Lib Dems one and the Tories seven - that's unmistakably blue.
Map aside, the numbers in the article are telling. In areas where Labour had a large lead in 2015, they now have a narrow lead; in areas where they had a narrow lead, they now have a narrow deficit.

It's not as disingenuous as producing a map and colouring in ( for example) Wales in blue. If Matty thinks that Wales is suddenly going to become a Tory stronghold he's either ridiculously credulous or he's lying. I'd presume the latter. I know we've got a tough job on, kippers going back to their natural home alongside apathy and resignation all plays into Tory hands but I remain committed and as ever optimistic.

Fair enough, I'm keeping my expectations low to reduce the inevitable disappointment.

C'mon dude. Dare to dream. This is the most exciting, progressive Labour manifesto/ campaign in my life time ( which is a long time as I'm sure blade1889 will remind me) We've got this.:)

Sadly the BluKip vote is pretty solid so anything below 100 majority is about as good as can be hoped for.

I've come to the conclusion that they could offer to reintroduce slavery, death penalty and the Highland clearances but still win with a comfortable majority

I've heard this on doorsteps/ out and about and it's frustrating. People have become resigned, ground down and disenfranchised from their own future. The trope of what's the point, she's already won becomes self fulfilling. Theresa May has to be the most unpopular "popular" person going but still there is sense of doom.

Even though I believe Labour are running the right campaign there are still things that going wrong. There are thousands of us hitting colleges/ clubs/ gigs/ work places/ community centres trying to register people to vote but still no party funding or organisation. Baffling

I think the Tory majority will be increased but not by the margin Mrs May hoped for at the outset.

I can't justify that with evidence or reasoned argument (it's basically a hunch), so as recompense here is my favourite picture of Jeremy Corbyn attempting to win a staring contest with a dog.

And finally Tim Farron doing whatever it is that Lib Dems do.

I heard a rumour once that Andy Burnham was a northern lad from the north, is that true?

Did he win the staring contest, at least? Any history of success is vital at this point.
