I'm not sure how that is something worthy of hate, unless the various accommodations you speak of result in real inconvenience to people without children. What accommodations did you have in mind exactly?

I could write for a day but I'll just give one for now: they sanitise everything. Football is sanitised because it wants to market to families, specifically people with children so they're encouraged to bring them along. Pubs are more geared towards enticing families to come and eat and play, removing pool tables and darts and replacing them with modern decor and cake stands.

Museums and Zoos can't be enjoyed without screaming little fucks and, like football, they charge outrageous prices for tat and food because they know kids will peck their parents' head to get it.

Advertisement is geared towards family, meaning television shows cater to them. This is why prime time shows are all interactive contests.

Music is another casualty.

Taking your kids to football matches is what parents like to with their kids. I don't think it's unreasonable to not want your kids to be within earshot of some arsehole screaming that the ref is a c*** at the top of his voice. My team has a zero tolerance of really bad language and I don't think it's just about kids, but also civilised adults don't want to hear others shouting the word c***.
Regarding pubs there are still pubs with pool tables and dartboards. Simply go to one of them.
Kids love zoos, it's fun and educational for them, same with museums. Most kids behave themselves, but some don't.

There has always been family prime tv programmes, it's nothing new. There's plenty of adult programming.

In what context do you mean music?

People who park in parent and child bays when they don't have children or even child seats. And then get the arse through embarrassment when you pull them up on it and call them inconsiderate fuckers.

100%

It's worse when they excuse it with 'I'm only using the cash machine'.

Football rattles. I had a guy sitting behind me last night using one. I wanted to ram the fucking thing up his arse after 2 minutes. Fuck knows what it was like back in the day when every sod had one.

Having to stand up every single day on the train.

You pay for a seat, you should get one. Every single morning and evening I get on the same train, and it's exactly the same as it always is, only 2 carriages, and crammed to fuck. You couldn't swing a cat on there, and then it's not helped by the idiots who aren't patient enough to wait with everyone else to get on, so barge their way through.

All of this would be so easily prevented if another carriage was stuck on the back, but common sense never seems to prevail.

It's important news for music lovers everywhere.

Why would a private company care? They know you have to use their service, so shove as many people into as little space as possible and make more profit.

Because I have a feeling that a lot of people would get the train more often, if it was more spaced out. For example, I have a mate who suffers from clostrophobia, and he refuses to get the train in peak times due to being in a confined space for a long period of time.

It's the number one issue with rail privatisation, namely that profit to the share holders takes precedence over service and customer satisfaction. The same as every other private company I hear people say. But what differentiates the rail network and 95% of other services is that you can't use someone else if you don't like what's provided, they have you by the bollocks. For example, if I want to get to work, I have no option but to use the pile of useless shite known as London Midland and have to pay over £300 a month for the privilege.

One of many repulsive decisions by the Tories.

I don't know how to break this to you but you don't pay for a seat.

Even though you're only paying for travelling on the train, I'd expect for seats to be available for everyone, especially for the extortionate prices you're expected to pay. Even though I have a railcard, on my line, it isn't valid until after 10, which is just useless.

The trains are absolutely packed already. Despite their shitness they are very popular.

I'm sure the train companies would love to increase capacity if they felt they could get more people on. But it's expensive to extend platforms and trains.

The vast majority of trains run with 8 carriages or less, and the vast majority of platforms support 12 carriages or more.

Where's that stat from? It's certainly not the case for the couple of lines I know, and there's hundreds in the UK, I imagine.

I'm fully in favour rail nationalisation and think the way the trains are run at the moment is a disgrace, but I can understand the way the companies run them. They'll only put in money where they think there's a profit to be made. If adding four carriages to every train was worthwhile for them to do (profit-wise), they'd do it. They don't do it out of spite, even if that's what it feels like at times.

I don't think an improvement in travelling conditions would significantly increase footfall. People travel on trains because they have to.

Trying to deal with two ill, non-stop crying babies on top of a flu/cold that had me waking up convulsing and shivering this morning - in between vomiting and coughing my guts up.

Life's a c***, isn't it?

I noticed Carel is reading the thread. Yes, shingles is a c*** as well :bye:

Correct they don't do it out of spite. They do it to be competitive, remain in business and make money for themselves and their shareholders.

The two reports belows clearly demonstrate, to me at least, why the rail system should be ren-nationalised

I'm in favour of services being nationalised but the government puts contracts out to tender to private companies. It shouldn't be one way or another but a cooperation.

Privatisation works primarily because of competition between companies and products.

Less than 1% of rail line in the UK has service from more than one company (so it's still all a monopoly).
We have the most expensive rail tickets in the world. I can travel the length of France (Calais to Toulouse, about 1,000km) 1st class for less than the price of getting from the Southampton to London (130km), 2nd class.
In real terms, the cost to the taxpayer of rail privatisation has doubled since it was privatised.
15%-20% of the £5.4 billion subsidy is simply profit for the private companies.

So how's this all work then? They don't own the trains, they don't own the stations, they don't own the railway track. They own the logo on the side of the train. It's a licence to print money. No wonder Branson has a huge fucking smile all the time.

Political ideology gone mad. So no, no "cooperation". Run the railways, buses, ferries and roads for public good.

There would be competition because companies would be competing for government contracts. Being legislated byntge government reigns them in.
