If i was getting on a bit, and some youngster offered me a seat, as if to say you look like you're not able to stand up, then id be a bit offended i reckon.

You'd be offended at someone being respectful?

For people who need a seat perhaps?

But it's not always obvious. Pregnant women, yes. Disabled or injured (with crutches for example), yes. Really old people, yes. But everyone else is fair game if you ask me. Sorry to sound like a selfish fucker but when you spend as much time on trains as I do then you don't give up seats unless there is a good reason. But I will do without hesitation if the person genuinely needs it.

I saw a woman on the underground a few months back with a badge saying she was pregnant. I'm not suggesting for a minute she wasn't of course, but it was by no more than a month or two as she had a t-shirt on and wasn't showing in the slightest, hence why she felt the need to wear a badge. She clearly believes she should have a seat given up for her or else why wear it. Do you agree? I probably would give up my seat for her, but it's an example where it isn't clear cut.

Seems i've got a stomach ulcer  I had them up until 25 years ago but woke in agony at 2AM this morning throwing up. Managed to get an urgent appointment with my GP this morning andhe took blood and gave me a prescription for tablets and a liquid to drink. No drinking, stress, fags or spicy food.

Agree with this.

I find it very hard to decide if someone's old enough to warrant me offering my seat. I just save all the bother now and only sit down if it's not in a seat which is for Elderly/Pregnant/disabled people....that said some bloke had a go at me and a few others a few months ago for not standing up even though we were sitting in 'normal' seats....I did try to explain it's up to the bastards in the 'special' seats. He got my seat. Old c***.

I'm a gentleman and will always give my seat up for lady, regardless of whether she's disabled, pregnant or old.

Eurghh there's always the odd smarmy c*** who thinks the way into a woman's pants is offering them a seat.

I'm also in the construction industry so I need the seat more than anyone. I work harder than office folk.

Why? They want equal rights don't they? I've never had a woman stand up and offer me her seat. Works both ways

People taking up seats with their (small) bags on a packed train irritates me, I only accept large items like a suitcase or instrument.

Depending on my mood I will ask them to move their bags so I can sit there even if there are free seats. Fucks me off.

People who can't use umbrellas correctly without poking people's eyes out. Unbelievable the amount of careless umbrella users there are walking the street. I use a hooded jacked. It works.

I never knew that people giving up their seats was such a contentious issue or would generate so much chat!

I used to do that until some silly bint took issue with it in front of the whole bus, got told to go fuck herself and I sat down again. I no longer do it unless someone needs the seat.

You sure got my number pal, my main reason for using public transport is definitely the fanny.

It's perfectly acceptable on the night bus. Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock....I'd call it desperate.

Continuing the "annoying things on a train theme": people who will get on a packed train and not realise they'd be making everyone's lives a lot easier if they took off their GIANT FUCKING BACKPACK.

Cyclists who ride the train at rush hour and try to force their bike on a packed train

If it's not a fold up bike they shouldn't be allowed on in rush hour. It annoys me that I paid so much for a folder only to see ignorant fuckers with bikes getting on rush hour trains without being challenged by staff.
