Picking up/purchasing cans of peeled plum tomatoes as opposed to plain old chopped tomatoes. Why do ALL manufacturers put them in the exact same packaging? It's maddening. So easy to pick up the wrong one when all that's different is a slightly different depiction of THE SAME RED FRUIT.

I don't even know why cans of peeled plum tomatoes are a thing, anyway. Does anyone actually eat them whole? Surely you have to chop it up and once you've done that you might as well have purchased a can of chopped tomatoes. Your pasta sauce isn't going to care that much if it's a slightly sexier variety of tomato, is it?

In summary, FANS OF TINNED PEELED PLUM TOMATOES PLEASE REVEAL YOURSELVES AND TELL ME I'M WRONG

I must add that I'm not particularly KNOCKING plum tomatoes PER SE (they are quite a delicious variety of tomato, after all). It's just the process of getting home and finding out you're in the business of having to CHOP SOMETHING UP when you thought you were buying a ready-chopped product which is QUITE IRKSOME

Full tinned tomatoes in an English fry up are essential. Better than the mushy chopped up variety any day.

Those tomatoes just get bunged in a pot anyway, I save my subtle savouring of smell and taste for my whiskies. And no I haven't bought Bells in a decade or Grouse in about 5 years.

Thank you for your responses regarding the age old chopped/plum tomato debate! It's given me plenty of food for thought (no pun intended)!!!

I think my issue is that I would always be purchasing tin-dwelling tomatoes for the purpose of concocting a sauce and, quite honestly, any old tomato will do for that particular endeavour. If I were assembling a fry-up I rather suspect I would just buy fresh tomatoes, although I acknowledge that canned plum tomatoes might be an acceptable substitute. Certainly, you would have to be some kind of MONSTER to want to serve some chopped tomato SLUDGE with yer bangers, oeufs and bacon!

On careful reflection I'm still unconvinced I have a place for plum tomatoes (tinned variety) in my life, but some interesting points have been raised (and quite honestly, these 'toes mush up without much resistance anyway). As such, I'm prepared to downgrade my HATRED for this particular happening to mere MILD ANNOYANCE. Sadly, there's no thread for mild annoyances so it'll still have to be officially recorded as a thing I hate.

Tinned tomatoes, in my very honest opinion, are much better for cooking with than fresh ones (unless you live in a properly hot country). We just don't have the sun to grow decent ones here, and even so producers are intent of growing them for looks rather than flavour.

Yes, but the solution to this particular problem is to purchase some REALLY PONCEY but EVER SO DELICIOUS foreign variety. "Think of the AIR MILES" you might very well say in protest, but we must embrace these pre-Brexit LUXURIES while we can. This time next year we'll ALL be TRAIPSING over our fellow man to access the last Lidl CRACKERS on the shelves (this is obviously before we resort to cannibalism and our daily feed consists of some poor unfortunate's BRAIN GOO)

Thursday is usually a dram night, there are a couple of live online whisky streams I partake in; but the pain got so bad I had to take some tablets and hence couldn't have my whisky!

Its feeling a bit better today, so I am going to make up for last nights abstinence and then some!!

As for Pringles, never again, the jip I got off them isn't worth it. Hopefully trying (yet again) to get back on my diet next week so I won't need that shit anyway.
