I've got a telescope. I don't use it as much as I'd like due to cloud, and that my other two hobbies are non-league football and running, so I already do a lot of messing about in the cold.

Great when you get a good look at something though.

For that price you're probably better off getting a pair of binoculars. You'll see more with a pair of £60 binos than that telescope - as cool as scopes are...

I know nothing about telescopes or binoculars. I'll have a look into the binoculars, but she's 7, so I'd prefer something static really so I could set it up for her and that and obviously I don't want to pay a significant sum as she may lose interest in the future.

You're better off with binoculars on a tripod ;)

I'm not an expert either. Google will have all the answers!

All the more reason to get binoculars in my opinion, when she's bored of them, you can add them to your portfolio of stalking items.

I've got a good set of binoculars. Most I ever used them was on holiday watching the boats come into Dartmouth.

Good set of binoculars will have such a great magnification you'll be able to spy on people without getting close to your 500m restraining order.

Nothing gets past the folk on this forum does it, you've found me out, the telescope/binoculars were indeed going to be a gift to myself to aid in my stalking activities. Now that's out in the open can anyone recommend a good camo gear provider?

I have an observatory right next to where I live that I used to visit a lot. My dad was a member or the British Astronomical Society years back and used to build telescopes with the guy who ran the observatory. When I went to uni I used to go up there almost every week with a friend who was on the same course. The first time I saw Saturn I couldn't believe it did actually look like what you see on those pics. You see it on them but when you see those rings live it is a special thing to behold.

I'd like to have my own wee observatory one day, probably in retirement or once I have everything else I need. Have my house in the Highlands and those clear skies up there with no light pollution it'd be fantastic.

That's why you watch United so often, to see the stars.

This lovely mild winter we are having. Just a couple more months and spring will be back around. I don't think I've been out once this winter and thought about how horribly cold it is.

Does she teach a class of amputees who do art lessons with their pens in their mouths?

Brass band music, especially at Christmas. Just watching the Brass Band Wonderland on Sky Arts and loving it. You can't beat a good Christmas Carol being played by a brass band.

Having ten days off from Tuesday morning and having plans with friends or family on just about all of them.

This.

Incredible performer. Has the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout. The way he uses loop pedals to create entirely different versions of his songs is fantastic.

I guess Sheeran's alright, but it's like he's the only game in town, like Adele. I suppose it was ever thus.
